Jedi-Con 2008 was in Germany this past weekend, and while not a lot of hard news, some very interesting and “almost confirmed” rumors were floated about. Star Wars Action News reporter Steve was there and reports back to us with details about Celebration Japan, Celebration 5’s possible location, and even another Celebration in a certain country down under. He also managed to score a Jedi-Con exclusive Shadow Trooper 2-pack for one lucky Star Wars Action News listener! Listen to find out how you can win.
Also this week, have you ever find yourself in a strange house on a rainy Monday night, talking to someone you’ve never met before and then pulling out some cash and filling up a box full of vintage figures? That’s what happened to Arnie when he replied to a local newspaper classified ad for a Star Wars collection for sale. He didn’t expect to find much but ended up taking home a boxload of “new” vintage figures. Marjorie and Arnie share the details of this experience in this week’s episode of Star Wars Action News, and we’ll also give you the lowdown on a licensed one-of-a-kind Star Wars collectible he has for sale.
Finally, Marjorie and Arnie review the three new Evolution sets, Fett, Sith, and Vader’s Secret Apprentice from The Force Unleashed. We also look at some of the new Titanium vehicles and give a proper review to the new Grievous Starship. Yep that’s right Ian McDiarmid has been added to the cast listing of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Dark Horizons and TheRaider.net report that a new cast list was live on Indy’s official site but was pulled shortly thereafter. They also report that McDiarmid will be reprising a role that he portrayed in a episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

The Toyguide updates today with the addition of Aayla Secura’s Jedi Starfighter. Hasbro revisits one of their signature molds from ROTS, this time giving Aayla Secura her own “personalized” vehicle pulled from EU source material. What is different about this seventh JSF release is that does not include a decal sheet, nor are there any decals pre-applied to the ship. Also, it foregoes any weathering/damage whatsoever. Essentially you pull it from the box, insert the missile accessories and you’re done. Is it worth $20? Yes, if you like a variety of ships for your Jedi, but it maybe an easy pass for some who are looking to streamline their collecting habits.
This is a Target Exclusive and is hitting store shelves now.

Toyguide Update: Saga Legends 501st Legion Trooper V2

The Toyguide gets a quick update today with the addition of the second version of the 501st Legion Trooper. Fans have wanted this version for a long time and to tide us over we bought extras of the Commander Appo figure and removed the pauldron. Eagle-eyed collectors need to lookout for a few things in the toy aisle to be sure they are grabbing this version versus the first Legends release.
Quick 501st Identification Guide:
Look under the helmet: if you see skin = Version 1
Look at the ankle joint: if you see black = Version 1
Look at the torso: if you see a joint below the chest armor = Version 2
Look at the belt: if the ammo pouch detail looks “U” shaped = Version 2

Toyguide Update: Evolutions – The Jedi Legacy

The Toyguide updates today with The Jedi Legacy Evolutions Set. Here we are treated finally to a modern sculpt of Qui-Gon Jinn who gets the full SA treatment; Bultar Swan from AOTC and Luke Skywalker from the New Jedi Order. While the Jedi themselves are great figures, this set really skimps on the extra accessories as compared to other Evolutions sets from the past. We are only given one Jedl robe for Qui-Gon and that’s it. I expected at least some common Jedi field accessories like a another robe or cloak, a communicator or holoprojector, aquabreather and extra lightsaber hilts for each Jedi.

Hallmark 2008 Star Was Ornaments Revealed

Our friends over at Rebelscum.com have scored images of Hallmark’s Star Wars ornament lineup for 2008– It looks like we’ll be getting an Imperial Shuttle, Emperor on the Death Star 2 throne, and a Darth Vader/Luke Death Star 2 Duel piece. Check it out here.
Toyguide Update: TAC08/12 Battle-Damaged Darth Vader

The Toyguide updates today with another figure from “The Force Unleashed” line: Battle-Damaged Darth Vader. This rendition of Vader has apparently taken a severe beating from Rebel Alliance forces – the exact how and why will be revealed in the upcoming TFU novel and game. He features several damaged removable armor bits as well as a tattered cape. Overall it’s a decent figure, but the concept to me further strips away the invincibility and lore that Vader had for me as a kid, but to each his own.
FYI: The camera doesn’t lie. Vader’s shoulder and chest armor has a gold/yellowing tint to it. No word as to why, but I’d chalk it up to it being subjected to extreme heat during battle.

Legacy of the Force: Revelation

I’m not sure if it was announced, yet. I’ve been laid up from surgery and then the stomach flu. I’m good now. But I haven’t been on the net until today and I was trying to see if anyone posted info about LOTF: Revelation, it came out on Feb. 26th, I think or around there. Anyway I’ll be ripping through it, barring house work, feeding cats, vaccuming, you know all that crappy stuff we have to do in order to maintain a house and pets and my wife.
Also within a few months Michael Reaves, will be publishing the first of the trilogy Coruscant Nights: Jedi Twilight, you can check out that and the sequels Street of Shadows and Patterns of Force plus more at star wars.com
On a lttle side note those of you who are into G.I. Joe as well as Star Wars, the new TRU exclusive battle packs are showing up. One is Snake-Eyes against the Red Ninjas and the other is Cobra Night Watch, very cool sets! And Halo 3 figures are out(Wal-Mart, GameStop), Master Chief, Cortana, CQB Soldier, EVA Soldier, red and blue Spartans as well as a white one. They have the Brutes, Unngoy and those bird-like sniper guys, these figures are really cool and detailed and come with accessories. They also have the Warthog, a Ghost and the Chopper, but they are small, but cool.
So I’ve got to get cracken on this book review. BTW, the battle damaged Vader from force unleashed is one of the coolest and one of the most detailed figures I’ve seen. I was lucky and purchased a case from Toynk, a local toy shop that sells Sideshow stuff as well as a lot of Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and much, much more. Toyguide Update: TAC08/09 Imperial EVO Trooper

The Toyguide updates today with the first figure from the perpetually delayed and now sadly over-hyped “The Force Unleashed” line: Imperial EVO Trooper. This particular breed of trooper has “specialized” armor that gives the EVO Trooper the ability to enact the Empire’s tyranny over star systems with the harshest of climates. He’s armed with a fléchette launcher (Sandtrooper Rifle) that essentially fires shrapnel to maximize lethality. He also packs 2 small (Clone Commander-style) blaster pistols, which don’t fit in his hands very well nor does he have holsters to stow them.
The figure itself has a very McQuarrie-esque feel to its design: from the gray/white color scheme and angular chest armor to the general shape of the helmet.

Sideshow “Pick Your Favorite Clonetrooper Armor” Poll

Sideshow is holding a new poll on their site asking you/us the fans their favorite Episode III Clone Trooper armor style.
Voters can choose from 501st Legion, Shocktrooper, 212th Battalion (Utapau), 187th Legion (Mace Windu’s Battalion), 9th Assault Battalion (Coruscant) and 38th Armored Division (Engineer).
Sideshow also hints that at least one of these is already in the works for their first Clonetrooper release.
