YAKForums Downtime Update
May 29, 2008 | 8:17 PM EST | Brandon

Hello Yakface.com Forums Fans!

We apologize for the forum outage many are experiencing. Though this downtime wasn’t originally scheduled our host has decided to go ahead and install new hardware and software on our forum server. Though this downtime currently may seem inconvenient, unsettling, and annoying the future of the server looks bright.

We know many fans have found the recent struggles our current server has been experiencing to be rather unenjoyable please bear with us as we work hard behind the scenes to remedy this situation once and for all. We are aware that this is not providing the best possible service to our fans and has left many viewers with a bad experience and left many current users to leave our forums. We by no means have wanted anyone to have this negative experience and visit at our forums and are working hard to rectify these forum behaviors. Our hope is to have the new software and hardware installed by the end of the weekend and look forward to the Forums working much better and stable from June on.

The good news is the new software and hardware being installed will allow our forums to accommodate the extreme bandwidth we attract and allow for fans to have better stability, access, etc. Our hope is once the installation is complete we will see the massive amounts of downtime, crashes, loading, errors, etc. decrease (IF NOT DISSAPPEAR!). Though this is our goal no promises can be made, Technology after all is unpredictable, but rest assured we have you all in mind and want to provide the best service you come to expect from Yakface.com.

Please note, that we are also still hard at work trying to backup current information and PHPBB coding as we begin the slow transfer process of bringing the forums to the Yakface.com server and away from our current server host / provider. Though we still have no ETA on when we will be YAKside (at home) we hope to move over by the end of summer.

Thank you very much for your loyalty, understanding, and patience young padawans.

*EVENT UPDATE: We know many of you were excited about the TFU Q&A and the end of our YAKfinities contests. We have our mods hard at work extending deadlines. Once the forums are back up and running smoothly we will allow time for everyone to fairly contribute to the events. The TFU Q&A deadline has been extended to Sunday, June 8th, 2008 and the YAKfinities Deadline will be announced by Chewie shortly. Thank you!

May 21, 2008 | 6:37 AM EST | Jayson

This week on Star Wars Action News, it’s episode 1-4-3 and as those of you with old school pagers know, 1-4-3 means “I love you.” As such, the hosts of Star Wars Action News take some time this week to remember why they love Star Wars and Star Wars collecting.

In addition, last Tuesday saw the release of the final Legacy of the Force novel, Invincible by Troy Denning. Brock finished the book and provides a spoiler-free review, and Arnie sat down with Troy Denning at Borders in Oak Brook, IL to discuss some of the book’s plot points. If you’ve read Invincible this is an interview not to miss! (and if you’ve not read Invincible, save this show in a special location on your hard drive to listen to as soon as you finish the final page).

With a poll of the week, Scott From Tulsa’s store report, and an update on Red 5’s charity walk, we really hope you enjoy this week’s Star Wars Action News.

The Saber Vault Update
May 20, 2008 | 6:51 PM EST | Bill

This just in from The Saber Vault.com:

For the last few months we’ve been warning that our stock of Saber Vault Star Wars items could be considered to be a “threatened species”, now it is truely among the “endangered”! We are down to only one left on SEVERAL items: Boba Fett Return of the Jedi Signature Edition blaster, Luke Skywalker Return of the Jedi V.2 LE lightsaber, The Muppet Show Gonzo photo muppet LE, Captain Barbossa LE sword from the Pirates of the Caribbean, and Qui-Gon Jinn LE
lightsaber. ALL are priced below retail price and once they leave the Vault, they won’t return.

Our stock of Master Replicas FX sabers is dwindling fast too. We have less than than 10 of each in stock. At $85 (including shipping) is it a wonder why they are selling fast?!?

Still in stock are mini lightsabers, helmets and blasters, Pirates of the Caribbean small items (necklaces, rings, key’s, coins) as 2 mini
lightsaber/blaster cases left. Click here to order.

Legacy of the Force: Invincible
May 14, 2008 | 12:42 PM EST | Holocron_Master_Nick

“Is near, the end of LOTF”, Yoda sighs.

Sorry for getting this out to you guys late, but yesterday they released the final book, in a 9 book series. LOTF: Invincible has Darth Caedus against just about everyone in the galaxy. Many beings want him gone, very few want him alive, and a bunch want him dead …such as Boba, Jaina, Ben and others. So this is it, this book is the culmination of three great authors who have brought us on this crazy ride through happiness, madness, distraught and pain. What will the galaxy be left with at the end? Who will survive? Who wown’t? And who or what is Invivncible?!!

Check out my review coming to Yakface forums soon.

Oh and this is OT, but any Joe fans out there wave 7 has hit stores, and so has the Battle Packs for TRU, the Hoth and Stap one. Also the huge winged TIE fighters are out at TRU, too. And of course Indy, I found a jungle cutter vehicle, so good luck, good hunting and stay safe. I might have heard from a little birdy that sometime in July, there will be a special day for the release of many new Star Wars stuff …

Del Rey’s Contract Extended!
May 12, 2008 | 11:18 AM EST | Jayson

Our friends at Star Wars Action News have passed on to us this important information:

With the ad for a new book, entitled Millennium Falcon appearing at the end of the newest Legacy of the Force book Invincible (on store shelves tomorrow), it was widely suspected that this meant Del Rey’s contract with Lucasfilm for more Star Wars books was extended.

We contacted our sources at Del Rey and we can now confirm this to be the case!

Per our contact from Del Rey, Del Rey has received an extended contract for more Star Wars novels. “There are sure there will be more books into 2009” he said, but he could not be more specific about the details of the contract, how many years it covered, or how many books we may see. He did confirm there would be new adult fiction as well as companion books, like the Star Wars Encyclopedia being released this fall.

So that means more great Star Wars fiction to come from Del Rey. We expect an official announcement from Lucasfilm’s Sue Rostoni to be forthcoming.

With a Heavy Heart…
May 5, 2008 | 9:10 PM EST | Mark

Today, I received some very sad news. To those of you whom have followed Yakface.com for the many years that it has been online, you will recall, the Vintageman. He sold vintage figrues here on Yakface in the early years. His reputation was very solid. Today, I received news that Richard Heimlich has been hospitalized with Liver Failure due to cancer. Richard was one of the main reasons I started working on a Star Wars website, which became this site you visit. Please take a moment and give a prayer for Richard whom is in need of a miracle…….

May 5, 2008 | 9:11 AM EST | Jayson

It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan, isn’t it? There’s not one but two toy lines hovering in the not so distant future, Star Wars returns to theaters in August overcoming all expectations, and there’s a brand new collectibles company, eFX, breaking onto the scene. As such, listeners of Star Wars Action News direct the conversations for this week’s show. We discuss some preferred method of storing loose figures, a re-edited version of Star Wars, some classic Star Wars records, and the trio of Lego Star Wars Nintendo DS Lunchboxes.

Also this week we discuss the new exclusive items from Sideshow Collectibles and Nathan P. Butler (author of the Star Wars Tales issue “Equals And Opposites” which will have a comic book 2-pack coming out soon!) giving us an expanded universe update.

And remember, the Star Wars Action News bookclub is taking sign-ups now to join us in reading Jedi Search by Kevin J. Anderson. Bookclub members read the books together, discuss them on the Star Wars Action News forums, and then members can join in a roundtable discussion about the books which is then released as a Book Club podcast!
