Coruscant Nights 2
August 29, 2008 | 8:53 PM EST | Freebird

Well Ladies, Gentlemen, and Wookiees of All ages. I was just in the middle of beginning to read the second book of the coruscant night series. I got to page 52, and guess what happened. The next page was 21. It continued like this all the way to page 52 again. Then page 85 picked up the story. It’ll be hard to review a book when there are 33 missing pages, so I’m going to have to hold off on a review for it, until I get my copy exchanged. But make sure all of you who were going to purchase it, before reading my insightful thoughts, check your books before purchase. It stinks when you start getting into a story, and hit a brick wall. 🙂

YakTube -STAR WARS EPISODE III ANIMATED!!
August 28, 2008 | 10:55 PM EST | Niktom

All I really have to say about this one can be summed up in the following quotes: “What’s up baby?” and “Chirp Chirp Chirp”.

Warning: There is a bit of minor foul language in one part. I apologize for that, but think the humor more than makes up for it.

Star Wars Saga Repacked in Trilogy Sets on DVD
August 28, 2008 | 1:39 PM EST | Jayson

From StarWars.com

Returning to store shelves on November 4th are the six episodes of the Star Wars saga on DVD bundled in convenient trilogy sets. Perfect for gift-giving as the holidays approach, the Prequel Trilogy set includes Episodes I-III, while the Star Wars Trilogy includes Episodes IV-VI.

Fans who already own the prequel trilogy double-disc releases (released from 2001-2005) and the Star Wars trilogy double-disc releases (released in 2006) already have all the content that’s available in this set. There’s nothing new in this set you don’t already have. But for friends and family still looking to fill in these gaps in their DVD collections, these sets make it easy and affordable to complete the saga.

Legacy Wave 3 and More BAD Legacy Variants
August 27, 2008 | 10:49 PM EST | Jayson

While hitting my local Target tonight, I literally stumbled across Legacy Wave 3 and while that was a nice surprise, I came across a not so pleasant one as well as I found repacks from waves 1, 2 and the Greatest Hits “GH” line that also include the same new Wave 3 B.A.D. parts for the Black RA-7 Droid (5D6-RA-7).

Here is a breakdown of the repacks I saw:
Wave 1 BD8: Darth Vader (with 2-piece Helmet) with RA-7 Right Leg
Wave 2 BD9: Obi-Wan Kenobi with RA-7 torso
Wave 2 BD16: Clone Trooper w/Quad Cannon with RA-7 head
GH1: Commander Gree with RA-7 Left Leg
GH2: Kashyyyk Trooper with RA-7 Right Arm
GH4: Imperial Evo Trooper with RA-7 Left Arm

What does this mean? Not sure, but one could theorize that if you held out on picking these figures up when they were initially released, you might miss out on the B.A.D. parts they were packed with as well. So, you might want to check those card backs more frequently to see if it holds the part you need.

And as for you diehard card/figure variant hunters out there… best of luck to you.

USB Lightsaber For Your Desk?
August 25, 2008 | 9:58 PM EST | Jayson

Gizmodo has posted an interesting item that is sure to be a big hit around your office cubical or maybe the home office.

According to the manufacturer, the $45 Star Wars USB Lightsaber, which connects to the USB port to charge up its battery and glows in the dark with a blue light, is “a lamp”. Sure. Whatever. We see it and the only thing we can imagine is a mini-Jedi mini-duel to mini-death, doing mouth sound effects. And actually, it’s not that mini, as the image of people battling with two of these shows.

It is current available for pre-order at Iwantoneofthose.com. Currently, this item isn’t available in the U.S., but hopefully a e-tailer will surface to supply fans this side of the Atlantic.

Wattographs VERY Rare Autograph Signing:
Ahmed Best!!!

August 25, 2008 | 8:47 PM EST | Brandon

Love him or hate him, Ahmed Best *is* Jar Jar Binks, the bumbling Gungan who ends up saving the day in Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Aside from his Gungan alter-ego, Best is also a known musician and dancer from the theatre troupe ‘Stomp.’

He’s only ever done a few rare appearances, including appearing (and signing in very limited numbers) at Celebration I in 1999 and doing an in-store signing relating to his appearing in Rolling Stone Magazine as Jar Jar. Ahmed has also signed a limited number of trading cards for Topps’ Attack of the Clones card set. Ahmed will be signing official photos and/or YOUR personal items.

Wattographs has arranged a VERY rare signing with Ahmed, which will take place in early October. This signing is scheduled a bit differently than our regular monthly signings. It will begin IMMEDIATELY and all items and orders must be in to us by September 20th.

Please email us with any questions. Visit the site for complete details!

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 6 Yarna da’l’ Gargan (FDOI)
August 24, 2008 | 8:39 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of the sixth figure in the Legacy Assortment: Yarna da’l’ Gargan. This is one of those perennial figures that comes along that fans have wanted for a long time, plus this has a history sorts as originally being worked up as a prototype figure during the Vintage era.

Yarna herself is a pretty decent figure from a detail and articulation aspect. She has ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles along with a swivel waist, hips and wrists. As for accessories, she includes a drinking glass, for her drink of choice and for those times when Jabba’s denizens try to get a little “too friendly”, she packs a dagger that is within easy reach stowed in a functional sheath. And for those so inclined or curious, the body is able to separated with some effort to remove the dress portion of her costume in case any customizer wanted to give her an upgraded cloth skirt.

Yarna also includes a leg with booster rocket for the next Build-A-Droid in the series: R7-Z0

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 3 Chewbacca (FDOI)
August 23, 2008 | 11:46 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue tonight with the addition of the third figure in the Legacy Assortment: Chewbacca. This figure is based on a cut scene from Return of the Jedi in which our heroes are caught in a sandstorm after their escape from the almighty Sarlacc.

If you watch closely, frame by frame during the battle over the Sarlacc – right before Han hits Boba Fett with the staff – you’ll see that Chewie has been shot and definitely has a leg wound, hence the need for the leg wrap and the subject for this figure. This figure also completes the toyguide gallery for the first Build-A-Droid figure in TLC Wave 1: R4-D6

There currently 3 different carded versions of this figure available: FDOI, non-FDOI and Blue -Eyed non-FDOI card.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 2 Luke Skywalker (FDOI)
August 23, 2008 | 11:18 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide gets an update tonight with the addition of the second figure in the Legacy Assortment: Luke Skywalker. This figure is based on a cut scene from Return of the Jedi in which our heroes are caught in a sandstorm after their escape from the almighty Sarlacc. There have been a few people that have wondered why does this figure have the gloved hand – didn’t he put that onafter he left Tatooine? That’s true in the film but in some of the cut scene footage you’ll see that he is clearly wearing the glove before leaving.

There are currently 2 different versions of the Luke figure due to an error during production. Initially, Luke was assembled with the belt on upside down with the silver clip on the figure’s right hip, then it was corrected during production and flipped the right way. The trouble is, with the belt position “corrected” it moved the hole intended to receive the lightsaber hilt to the wrong side of his body, as Luke always wears his saber on his left hip.

Speaking of lightsabers, this figure also has errors in this department as well as we are given an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber molded in green for his lit version and the standard Obi-Wan hilt for the accessory that attaches to the belt. A passable shortcut by the factory but errors none the less.

The madness continues with the card to which the figure is mounted. There are, as of this posting, at least 3 different card backs this figure is available on, the First Day of Issue (FDOI), the standard (non-FDOI) card and the new blue-eyed standard card. With all that said here is a list of the variants for this single figure:

FDOI (belt error)
FDOI (belt corrected)*
Non-FDOI (belt error)
Non-FDOI (belt corrected)
Non-FDOI (belt corrected) blue-eyed card

Which ever version you grab though is the closest yet to receiving a Death Star II Duel Luke, so head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

*Version photographed for the toyguide.

Clone Wars Week One
August 18, 2008 | 7:50 PM EST | Bill

So how well did the Animated Clone Wars do in their first weekend in release in theaters? Well if it was an olympic sprint it would be a bronze– 3rd place. Not bad for a sprint, but if we’re talking about an installment in the Star Wars franchise, it would seem that extremely disappointing comes to mind– it grossed only 14.5 million in its first week in release. By way of comparison– the latest installment in the Batman franchise made over 16 million in its 4th or 5th week in release. Check all the numbers out at Box Office Mojo.

Toyguide Update: Anakin Skywalker & Durge Comic Pack
August 11, 2008 | 9:01 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide gets an update tonight with the addition of the first 2008 comic pack shot for the Legacy section: the Anakin Skywalker & Durge Set from Star Wars: Obsession #3.

This set features an all-new Durge figure, complete with removable helmet and much improved articulation from the previous basic carded release from 2003, although knee articulation is still absent. As for the Anakin, he is a repaint of the Evolutions ROTS Anakin with more of a subdued gray paint scheme. He also features a new tattered Jedi robe and a new head sculpt, but to me, is seems a tad too big for the body as compared to the original sculpt.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a set you think is worth adding to your ever expanding collection.

Episode 155: The Clone Wars–Spoiler Free Review!
August 11, 2008 | 10:12 AM EST | Jayson

Can you feel the electricity in the air? It’s the feeling of knowing a new Star Wars movie is only 4 days away from being released. It’s The Clone Wars, and for Star Wars fans this is THE summer movie we’ve been waiting for, not some movie about a guy with pointy ears, a rich man in an iron suit, or an aging man who still cracks a mean bullwhip. No, we want to see lightsabers, droids, clones, Sith, and more…and The Clone Wars has all of that and more! But being animated there’s a lot of questions about this movie…primarily “is it any good?” Star Wars Action News attended a preview screening in Chicago and give you the straight, unbiased, spoiler free review of the movie.

Also this week, a few other reviews. Scott from Tulsa has packed up his BMF and returned it to the store. Why? He tells us. Also, Mister Gosh reviews Sideshow Collectibles’ lifesized Salacious Crumb, available on “Second Chance” from Sideshow Collectibles.

With voice mails, a review of the Wal Mart exclusive 501st Clonetrooper, and more, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

And if you’re seeing The Clone Wars this Friday, the Star Wars Action News hosts will be answering calls and getting your opinion on the movie from 7 p.m . to 10 p.m. CST. Just call 415-508-JEDI to chat with us and let us know what you thought of the movie!

You can download this week’s show here or use the direct links:

Toyguide Update: TLC Hoth Recon Patrol
August 10, 2008 | 8:03 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide gets an update tonight with the addition of the second battle pack added to the Legacy section: the Hoth Recon Patrol. Hoth gets more love in the battle pack segment here with this set. The highlights in this multipack are the Echo Base astromech, R5-M2, and a nice repaint of the Imperial Probe Droid “Probot” from the POTF2 era of deluxe figures. Other notable mentions are K-3PO in terms of articulation as it uses the C-3PO body from the TSC line, the Chewbacca, which brings the Early Bird head sculpt back to the market and finally, a redecoed Han Solo in Hoth Gear from the Walmart Droid Factory set where the coat is a more browish/blue-gray in this offering. Also take note that the goggles on this Han are glued in place.

For the $20 pricepoint of the current battle packs, this one stacks up fairly well in terms of “new” items and value so if you’ve been holding out, head to the toyguide to see if this is a set you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC Hoth Speeder Bike Patrol
August 10, 2008 | 8:02 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide gets an update today with the addition of the first battle pack added to theLegacy section: the Hoth Speeder Bike Patrol. This “just offscreen” EU set includes a pair of kitbashed Scout Troopers formed from the legs and arms of the VTSC Imperial Snowtrooper, the rest from the VTSC Scout Trooper with repainted portions of the body suit. We’re also given a set of Hoth redecoed, non-exploding Speeder Bikes (which are in dire need of a resculpt to bring them into the 21st century). Both troopers also include the standard issue blaster and biker scout pistol.

The set itself is not bad, but it would have been nice if they more closely matched the Snow Speeder Bike artwork from the DK’s Star Wars Cross Sections Book, where the Scouts had a temperature regulating hose attached to them from the Speeder. Also, for variant hunters out there, word is that there are 2 versions of the pack; one set with the Galactic Republic insignia on the speeders and other set with Imperial insignias.

If you’ve been holding out, head to the toyguide to see if this is a set you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 1 Han Solo (FDOI)
August 8, 2008 | 9:50 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide gets an update tonight with the addition of the first figure in the Legacy Assortment: Han Solo. This figure is based on a cut scene from Return of the Jedi in which our heroes are caught in a sandstorm after their escape from the almighty Sarlacc. The figure itself is slightly different from what we were initially shown at Toyfair in February, that figure had a different torso. What we have here is essentially a VTSC Han Solo with a new head, belt, goggles and blaster (which is recycled from the McQuarrie Chewbacca figure.)

It’s nice to get a new take on the often visited Han Solo character and it sports a very good likeness to Harrison Ford at certain angles. Although I have yet to try, the head for this figure might make for a good alternate to the “under duress” expression included with the TAC Han Solo with Torture Rack figure. This figure could use a touch weathering considering the scene that he’s culled from and while the blaster is a nice addition, I would have preferred the one that was previously included with the OTC Jedi Luke

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

PhoneSaber iPhone App Pulled by Lucasfilm
August 7, 2008 | 10:25 PM EST | Jayson

Mac news site Macenstein is reporting that the popular and free PhoneSaber iPhone application, that allows your iPhone to act (mostly) like a light saber (complete with sound effects) has been pulled from the App Store at the request of Lucasfilm. The developers note:

As of now, PhoneSaber will no longer be available, I’ve had a chat with a guy from THQ Wireless (who own the rights for Star Wars apps on mobiles) and apparently the guys from Lucas don’t want it up there anymore. They didn’t want to go down the attacking cease and desist route, so we’re being dealt with very amicably.

They want to do some sort of official, Star Wars branded version of PhoneSaber, and will be working with us on that one. I don’t know any information beyond that, whether they plan to charge for it, advertise with it or what, but we’ll keep you updated on as much as we’re allowed to tell you.

Check Your Belts…
August 6, 2008 | 7:34 PM EST | Jayson

Upon the acquisition of my TLC Luke Skywalker figure, I was initially miffed that the one I found had the belt assembled in the upside position, thus placing the hilt (which is also incorrect) on the wrong side of the body. But today while rifling through the pegs, I came across another Luke and the belt was correct! Click the link to see a comparison*.

*Both figures are of the “First Day of Issue” variety.

Fare-thee-well, I’m off to other galaxies …
August 4, 2008 | 9:26 PM EST | Holocron_Master_Nick

I have some bad news and some good news. Which do you want first? Well, we’ll go with the bad I guess, or perhaps to you it is the good news, but I have given-up my position as the Star Wars literature/book reviewer. The good news is that, if there’s anyone out there who would like to fill in the gaping hole left by me 🙂
now’s you’re chance for 15 minutes of fame, or longer. I was proud to be part of the Yakface team and community and I wasn’t afraid to let people know that I enjoyed the heck out of it. But as life often does, things change and I’m no longer able to do my duties as the reviewer. If Yakface would like to keep me on as moderator for the Literature forums and to possibly provide assistance to the new person, well then that’s up to them. You can see the posting, in the forums.

I want to thank everyone who has ever looked at my postings, and I appreciate the feedback from some people, thank you.
I told myself,(sob), (sob), that I wouldn’t cry … There’s a lot more info, after the jump.
