Additional Content Coming to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed!
September 30, 2008 | 12:27 PM EST | Jayson

LucasArts today announced that it is preparing two rounds of additional content for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed this Fall. This new content will be available for Xbox 360 owners through Xbox Live Marketplace and for PlayStation 3 owners through the PlayStation Network.

The first piece of downloadable content will be comprised of additional costumes and character models that can used while playing through the single-player campaign, including Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Kit Fisto.

The second round of downloadable content, due later this year, will feature an entirely new single-player mission, set in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice turns to the Jedi Temple to learn more about his father, and while searching through the rubble of the destroyed building he must confront his inner demons.

Both sets of content are being created by LucasArts’ internal development team.

Additional themes and picture packs will also be released over time.

Episode 162: Waves Crashing In
September 29, 2008 | 5:10 PM EST | Jayson

Saga Legends, The Legacy Collection Evolutions Packs, Comic Packs, Clone Wars figures, have we ever had quite so many different lines of Star Wars figures coming out at once? Well right now new figures from all five of these lines of figures are showing up in stores. This week on Star Wars Action News we tell you which figures have been spotted at which stores, and how to shop to get the most figures for your buck.

We also conclude our coverage of The Force Unleashed by taking your voicemails reviewing the game and telling us about your experiences at Midnight Releases. Nathan P. Butler reviews the comic book adaptation, and Arnie reviews the novelization of the movie, and then Arnie and Marjorie discuss what the game’s plot revelations mean for the rest of the Star Wars universe.

With an update of all online offerings, and if khaki is indeed a cool color for a Star Wars vehicle, it can all be found this week on Star Wars Action News.

Inside the Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia
September 26, 2008 | 3:07 PM EST | Jayson

In 1984, Del Rey Books published A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, the first reference book meant to catalog the many items of the fictional universe. The small paperback had about 900 entries in its 215 pages. By 1998, it took 354 pages to fill out the first full Star Wars Encyclopedia. Now, in 2008, these books are are overshadowed by the three volumes found within Del Rey’s upcoming titan, The Complete Encyclopedia, due out on December 9, 2008.

In order to fit in all the characters, starships, species, planets, creatures and details of over 30 years of movies, novels, comics, games, guides and more, Del Rey has split the Encyclopedia into three volumes contained within a slipcase: Volume 1 (A-G), Volume 2 (H-O), & Volume 3 (P-Z).

Head to StarWars.com for more details.

September 16, 2008 | 8:33 PM EST | Jayson

StarWarsShop.com has updated tonight with a load of TFU merchandise to coincide with today’s launch of the game. They’ve also added a few new TFU themed Giclée Prints.

Apprentice Crashes Star Destroyer is one of the most well-known concept images from The Force Unleashed, and deservedly so — it’s dramatic and highly evocative of the style of artwork that conceived both the original trilogy and the prequels. From artist Amy Beth Christenson, this 13″x19″ (approx) fine art giclée print on watercolor paper is limited to just 200 pieces.

Vader Knights Apprentice captures the wonderful mood of the Carbonite Chamber scenes from The Empire Strikes Back, but with a darker tone. From artist Chin Ko, this 13″x19″ (approx) fine art giclée print on watercolor paper is limited to just 200 pieces.

Vader on Kashyyyk visually demonstrates the reason Vader has incurred the wrath of the Wookiees following the events of the Clone Wars. From artist Amy Beth Christenson, this 15″x26″ (approx) fine art giclée print on velvet paper is limited to just 100 pieces and is signed by the artist.

Episode 160: The Force Unleashed PreGame Show
September 15, 2008 | 11:01 AM EST | Jayson

This Tuesday XBoxes all over will be overheating as Star Wars fans across the country assume the role of Vader’s secret apprentice and proceed to use the Force in never before seen ways to dispatch Stormtroopers and Jedi alike. The book has been atop the bestseller charts, and the downloadable demo on XBox 360 and Playstation 3 have broken records. For may Star Wars fans, this was the Star Wars event of 2008.

However the game was not without its troubles. Originally scheduled to be a 30th Anniversary multimedia celebration of Star Wars, the game’s release time was pushed back numerious times, LucasArts had some highly publicied staff layoffs and departures, and a running joke became to call the game The Force Unreleased.

Now that the game has gone Gold, we sit down with its Executive Producer, Haden Blackman, to discuss the game’s delays, and what fans can look forward to when they finally get the game in their hands. We also review the book “The Art and Making of The Force Unleashed”. Nathan P Butler also provides an expanded universe history of Vader’s other apprentices, from Asoka to the one in the game, and discusses how and why Shaak Ti is able to appear in the game.

Plus we discss the final Force Unleashed toys hitting shelves now from Hasbro, including the GameStop exclusive Stormtrooper figure and the Wal-Mart exclusive 3-packs.

It’s the Force Unleashed all over Star Wars Action News, so listen now!

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 22 Imperial Engineer (Battlefront II)
September 14, 2008 | 12:53 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the final figure in the Legacy Collection’s third wave: the Imperial Engineer from the Star Wars Battlefront II video game.

This figure is a repaint/recast of the Death Star Gunner from the TSC line, this time molded in a gray jumpsuit. In my opinion, this figure looks markedly better than the previous release due to having more contrast between the color of the helmet, chest armor, gloves and boots when compared to the jumpsuit. The Imperial Engineer does include the standard Imperial blaster, only this time in silver but he doesn’t include any of the weaponry or accessories featured in the game itself, but this is a repack wave after all and as much can be expected. This figure continues the Droid Factory concept and is packed with the left arm of the Build-A-Droid: 5D6-RA-7

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 21 Count Dooku (Holographic Transmission)
September 14, 2008 | 10:45 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next figure in the Legacy Collection’s third wave: Count Dooku (Holographic Transmission).

Although we never saw it in the movies, it’s safe to assume that Dooku communicated to those he was allied with via hologram transmission. The figure itself is a recast of the super articulated Evolutions Dooku, but instead of having the cloth cape, he is given a translucent version of the plastic cape accessory from the 2003 Saga Geonosis War Room Screen Scene Dooku. Also, this figure carries on the tradition of giving holographic weapons to essentially non-combat scene figures as Dooku also includes a holo version of his ignited lightsaber. This figure continues the Droid Factory concept and is packed with the right arm of the Build-A-Droid: 5D6-RA-7

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 20 Saleucami Trooper
September 12, 2008 | 11:08 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue tonight with the addition of the Legacy Collection’s third wave. Next up is the Saleucami Trooper. Don’t let your eyes fool you, this is indeed a different Saleucami clone trooper than we’ve been offered before. This figure was previously sold to us as Clone Commander Neyo, first available in the Wal-Mart Exclusive Treachery on Saleucami Battle Pack and then again as a Fans’ Choice Winner in the TAC Saga Legends line. With this “new” release, the only difference is the absence of the weathering details. This figure continues the Droid Factory concept and is packed with the left leg of the Build-A-Droid: 5D6-RA-7

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TAC TFU Stormtrooper Commander
September 12, 2008 | 8:34 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the last carded figure for the 30th Anniversary Collection: the Force Unleashed Stormtrooper Commander.

It seems that images of this figure have been floating around forever and countless questions have been asked of Hasbro as to when and where this figure would be available. Wonder no more as this figure is starting to hit at GameStop locations with pre-orders of the highly anticipated and often delayed The Force Unleashed Video Game. Hasbro participated a similar figure/game promotion back in 2004 with the exclusive Scout Trooper tied to the release of the first Battlefront game.

The figure itself is a repaint of the #20 Imperial Stormtrooper from last year, having a 501st-esque style deco. The paint job is rather attractive with a lot of weathering and detail, but many purist collectors were/are put off by giving the EII/EIII style color treatment to an Original Trilogy style trooper.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth tracking down and adding to your collection.

TFU Stormtrooper Commanders Hitting GameStop
September 12, 2008 | 12:07 AM EST | Jayson

After reading some success stories on a few of the various message boards out there, I stopped into my local GameStop tonight to inquire about the availability of the TFU Stormtrooper Commander. Much to my delight, the store had them in hand and they are indeed free with a pre-order and $5.00 deposit. The helpful employee also revealed that their store’s allotment for the figure is limited to 24 pieces, meaning these won’t last very long.

So, if you’re looking to complete your loose or carded TAC collection, you’d best make a call or trip to your local GameStop before it’s too late.

EDIT: It appears I lucked out and obtained the figure early as stores should have been instructed to hold these for those who attended the midnight release and purchase the game.

More Repacks for the TLC Battle Pack Line
September 11, 2008 | 2:58 PM EST | Jayson

Our friends at Rebelscum have posted a bit of news regarding new (and I use the term very loosely) Battle Packs for the Legacy Collection. Apparently, Hasbro has a caveat when they say battle packs will now be of the 4 figure variety, except when it comes to repacking previously warming… err I mean released battle packs as the Clone Attack on Coruscant, Jedi Training on Dagobah and Jedi vs. Darth Sidious Battle Pack are getting the new “squat box” treatment.

Head over to Rebelscum to view them in all their repackaged glory!

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 19 Yaddle & Even Piell
September 11, 2008 | 1:59 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the Legacy Collection’s third wave. Next up is Yaddle and & Even Piell. These Jedi were previously available as part of 2003’s Saga Jedi Council Cinema Scenes Set 1 & Set 2. This go ’round they receive a paint redeco/upgrade and both Jedi now include lightsabers. Interestingly, the packaging has an error on the insert and card back descriptive copy as it refers to Even Piell as “Evan”. It is not known at this time if that oversight will be corrected. This figure set continues the Droid Factory concept and is packed with the right leg of the Build-A-Droid: 5D6-RA-7

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 17 Clone Trooper
September 11, 2008 | 10:56 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of most of the Legacy Collection’sthird wave starting off with: Clone Trooper (Coruscant Landing Platform). I must admit that this is my favorite deco of all the EIII clone troopers and although we’ve received a couple different incarnations of this style trooper previously, this time around there are a few more details on the chest and arms and it utilizes the ROTS #41 clone trooper as a base. These clones can actually be briefly seen in Revenge of the Sith on Coruscant at the staging area before the battle on Kashyyyk. This figure continues the Droid Factory concept and is packed with the torso of the Build-A-Droid:5D6-RA-7

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 16 Clone Trooper with Cip-Quad
September 10, 2008 | 3:53 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue, wrapping up Clone Wars-themed wave with the Clone Trooper with Cip-Quad Cannon. These heavy artillery troopers have specialized weaponry in the form of a pack mounted, four barreled reciprocating cannon and their duty is to take out enemy tanks or other slow movings hostiles. The figure itself is what we’ve come to expect for a clone trooper in terms of articulation and also features a removable helmet and non-removable kama. The clone trooper is also packed with the dome and middle leg of the Build-A-Droid R4-J1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 15 Quarren Soldier
September 10, 2008 | 3:25 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of another aquatic warrior in Clone Wars-themed wave: the Quarren Soldier. Muscle bound and armed with a trident, the Quarren Soldier is a solid figure in most respects, the sculpt is fabulous (I believe that the head on this figure is also being utilized for the upcoming Sith Lord Maleval) and the articulation is above par except for the glaring omission of knee joints. Have you ever tried swimming without bending your knees? The Quarren Soldier also features a knife with working sheath and a soft goods skirt. This figure is also packed with the dome and middle leg of the Build-A-Droid R7-T1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 14 Mon Calamari Warrior
September 10, 2008 | 11:11 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue this morning with the addition of the next figure in this Clone Wars-themed wave: the Mon Calamari Warrior. This figure again is based on their appearance in the first Animated Clone Wars cartoon and is a fairly faithful representation of those characters. The Mon Calamari Warrior or “Knight” features a decent sculpt with a soft goods lower skirt and is well articulated with elbow, shoulder and ankle ball joints and has the standard swivel waist, wrists and hips but sadly lacks any joints at all in the knee area. As for accessories, the Mon Cal includes a cowill-shell shield, energy lance and a shell used as a clarion to call the other Knights into battle. This figure is also packed with the body of the Build-A-Droid R7-T1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

The Force Unleashed Commemorative Sets Found
September 10, 2008 | 10:31 AM EST | Justin2

By a stroke of luck, I came across some of Wal-Mart exclusive The Force Unleashed Commemorative Sets last evening. Reports have indicated that these won’t be out until the game is released September 16, but it never hurts to look around the toy section for this sort of thing a few days early.

The price on these was $14.84. Check out a few more pics of the new Incinerator StormtroopersHERE.

Wal-Mart Price Drop
September 10, 2008 | 10:26 AM EST | Justin2

Most collectors of the Indiana Jones line are worried about what the future holds with these figures. It seems that a combination of factors has kept this line from being the success that many hoped it would be… but, reports are coming in that Wal-Mart stores have lowered the prices on the basic figures – down from $6.94 to a much more reasonable $5.44 per figure.

Can this help save the line? Share your thoughts in the Yakface Indy Forum!

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 13 IG Lancer Droid
September 9, 2008 | 11:12 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates roll on with the addition of the next figure in this Clone Wars-themed wave with the IG Lancer Droid. This figure is a refit of the IG-88 figure from the VTSC line. They differ in a few key areas as this new figure doesn’t include the holster/bandolier, mines or ax accessories and it’s molded in a darker gray plastic. What this figure does have is a newly tooled head, shoulders and also includes a new lance that is different than the one included with the Obi-Wan from this wave. The lance itself can be attached to the Droid’s arm and, if needed, to its back leaving the arms free to brandish both the blaster and blaster rifle. This figure is also packed with the body of the Build-A-Droid R4-J1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 12 Padme Amidala
September 9, 2008 | 10:34 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the next figure in this Clone Wars-themed wave: Padmé Amidala. We were first treated to the “Snow Bunny” outfit Padmé in theAmbush on Ilum battle pack in the 30th Anniversary line, but that one missed the mark on several accounts due to the limiting, pre-posed sculpt. This one makes up for it big time. This version is beautifully sculpted with a very good likeness to Natalie Portman and plenty of articulation. She also features a removable hood, soft goods cape, blaster pistol and functional holster. This figure is also packed with the left leg of the Build-A-Droid R7-T1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 11 Saesee Tiin
September 9, 2008 | 10:03 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the next figure in this Clone Wars-themed wave: Saesee Tiin. Here we are treated to Master Tiin as he appeared while leading a contingent of clones through the vacuum of space to board an enemy vessel in the animated Clone Wars series. Saesee Tiin sports a special space suit with removable helmet and control panel and wields his trusted lightsaber. He features the full complement of articulation points with ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles along with swivel wrist, waist and hip joints. This figure is also packed with the right leg of the Build-A-Droid R7-T1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 10 Clone SCUBA Trooper
September 9, 2008 | 7:23 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the next figure in this Clone Wars-themed wave: the Clone SCUBA Trooper. These specialized clones debuted in the first animated Clone Wars cartoon series and were outfitted for underwater combat, complete with flippers, specialized blaster rifle and an aquatic propulsion pack. This figure doesn’t skimp in the articulation area either as it has the full array of points with ball jointed head, torso, elbows, knees and ankles and the standard swivel wrists and hips. This figure is also packed with the dome and middle leg of the build-a-droid R4-J1.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

I Double Dog Dare You To Buy This…
September 9, 2008 | 4:39 PM EST | Jayson

It seems that StarWarsShop.com is not only catering to the everyday collector/fan, but to those who may have a few more discretionary dollars to spend as well as they’ve added a new item with a near 20K price tag. The Limited Edition Darth Vader Bronze Statue by Lawrence Noble stands nearly four feet tall and weighs a whopping 150 pounds, and was forged and assembled at a foundry close to Lucasfilm’s Presidio campus, the same foundry responsible for producing several of the other bronzes adorning the parkland property the company occupies. Each bronze also received an individualized patina, making each piece a unique work of art unlike any other.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 9 Obi-Wan Kenobi
September 9, 2008 | 4:14 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of the first figure of wave 2: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Based on a brief appearance in the first Clone Wars Animated Series, General Kenobi here is outfitted with Clone Trooper armor, includes a removable clone trooper helmet, his signature lightsaber and sports a battle lance which he uses to dispatch Durge’s IG Lancer Droid Battalion. This figure is also packed with left leg of the build-a-droid R4-J1 or the torso of 5D6-RA-7, so check those card backs if you’re looking to complete or collect the parts from either droid.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 8 Darth Vader
September 9, 2008 | 3:58 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with the addition of Darth Vader. Many Vaders have come down the pike in recent years and this one improves, but doesn’t perfect, one of the better molds (Evolutions Vader) in Hasbro’s arsenal. This figure features a new take on the removable helmet as it is now able to be detached or assembled in stages much like in the brief head reveal scene in Empire Strikes Back or Vader’s final scenes of Return of the Jedi. Vader is also packed with dome and middle leg of the build-a-droid R7-Z0.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: TLC No. 7 Bane Malar
September 9, 2008 | 3:28 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates return today with several additions to the Legacy section. To kick things off, we start with Bane Malar: one of many of goons that populated Jabba’s inner sanctum and also one of those obscure background characters that Hasbro likes to treat us to every so often, aimed squarely at the older collectors of the Star Wars brand. The character was made famous by being the one that was knocked down the stairs while trying to prevent Boushh’s entrance into Jabba’s throne room.

The figure itself is expertly detailed and accessorized and is modestly articulated having ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles and includes the standard swivel waist, hips and forearms. Bane Malar is also packed with main body of the build-a-droid R7-Z0.

Head to the toyguide to see if this is a figure you think is worth adding to your collection.
