SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (August 15, 2015)—Lucasfilm announced today that their first film in the new standalone Star Wars stories series, “Rogue One,” has begun principal photography. Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla,” “Monsters”) is directing “Rogue One,” which tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and is slated for a December 16, 2016 release.

No Footage for The Force Awakens at D23
J.J. Abrams himself has stated via Entertainment Weekly regarding The Force Awakens presence at D23:
“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise,” director J.J. Abrams tells EW. “In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”
For people hoping to see official Episode VII merchandise shown at D23, I wouldn’t hold my breath for that. It’s all coming after Sept. 4.
New Clip from The Force Awakens
A new cut of the second teaser trailer from The Force Awakens has been released via Star Wars Korea’s YouTube Channel. There is nothing really new in it other that an alternative, reverse angle view of the First Order parade grounds.

New Star Wars Steelbooks and Blu-ray Sets
As fans count down the days until the long-awaited seventh episode of the Star Wars saga, they’ll have something else to look forward to as the first six will be released as commemorative Blu-ray steelbooks for a limited time on November 10, with pre-orders beginning on August 7. Each film comes with beautiful new character packaging that include Darth Maul for The Phantom Menace, Yoda for Attack of the Clones, General Grievous for Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader for A New Hope, an Imperial stormtrooper for The Empire Strikes Back, and Emperor Palpatine for Return of the Jedi. Shattered Empire Exclusive Cover Variants
While browsing about eBay this morning, I stubbled across two exclusive variant covers for the upcoming Shattered Empire series.
The first, exclusive to Comic Pop Collectibles, features an ominous depiction of the Emperor with Darth Vader in the foreground. The second, exclusive to Third Eye, features Luke Skywalker over a star field with the Millennium Falcon under pursuit. Look for these on shelf September 2.
Star Wars #8 Tusken Raider Action Figure Variant Cover
The ever expanding list of action figure cover variants for Marvel’s Star Wars series continues with the Tusken Raider for issue #008. Like the others, this variant features the work of John Tyler Christopher giving the cover a Vintage Kenner inspired design with a realistic twist.
