The Yakface Toyguide updates today with a special addition. Hasbro and their PR company Litzky Public Relations sent out a special Join the Rebellion Promo Box to news sites and toy blogs which contains a complimentary Jedha Revolt 4-pack as well as a digital download code for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

We will be giving away the code and the Jedha Revolt 4-pk via Twitter later today (US residents only).

Toyguide Update: Rogue One Jedha Revolt Multipack

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with our next entry in the Rogue One 3.75″ basic figure assortment with Jedha Revolt multipack.

PROS: A marked improvement over the “Home Entertainment” set released for The Force Awakens, this set features 3 new figures with excellent sculpting and paint. Edrio and Saw are brand new for this set and are the most detailed of the 4 figures. Saw Gerrera is the highlight though featuring the most complex sculpt and a great likeness to Forest Whitaker. There are no superfluous pack-in weapons to clutter the set.

CONS: The benefits far outweigh the negatives for this set as repacking Jyn seems like an overcompensation to correct the “Where’s Rey” issues from 2015. It’s also unfortunate that this is the only to get Saw Gerrera and Edrio Two Tubes, but obviously better than not getting them at all.

Toyguide Update: 2016 PG Exclusive Maz Kanata Deluxe Mini Bust

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the  2016 Premier Guild Exclusive Maz Kanata Deluxe Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS: An amazing recreation and likeness to Maz Kanata’s design from The Force Awakens. The sculpting overall is exquisite with many different textures and fabrics capturing in the polystone medium. The colors are vibrant  – from her orangish skin to her clothing and jewelry – as well as having a nice wash to bring out the fine wrinkles and folds. The inclusion of the swappable arms allows for two display options which is nice to have with some of these static pieces.

CONS:  Must be a PG Member to purchase ($120) which will probably drive the after market price higher in the future.  Could benefit from some tightening in the paint apps, especially on the hand gripping the lightsaber.

Toyguide Update: Admiral Raddus

The Yakface Toyguide return today for our next entry in the Rogue One 3.75″ basic figure assortment with the Admiral Raddus figure.

PROS:  Overall sculpt and deco is fantastic with crisp details and decent color blending especially on the hands/forearms. Like the TFA Admiral Ackbar that came before it, Raddus features an articulated mouth to bark out orders to the fleet over Scarif. It works well and is reminiscent of a time when toys were toys. He includes a DH-17 blaster pistol which is oddly oversized, and a rocket firing rifle.

CONS: The incorporation of the movable jaw renders the neck immobile so the figure is perpetually stuck looking forward/up. As one of the final figures released in the Rogue One line look, this may prove to be a tough find as we approach spring/summer with the 40th Anniversary and The Last Jedi product on the way.

Toyguide Update: Ralph McQuarrie Concept Artist Series Boba Fett Statue

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the  Ralph McQuarrie Concept Artist Series Boba Fett Statue from Sideshow Collectibles.

PROS: An absolutely stunning rendition of Ralph McQuarrie’s concept for the super commando Boba Fett. The application of the paint to bring out the definition in the armor and flight suit is fantastic. The pose is dynamic and looks as if it’s ready to leap off of the Slave I inspired base. This version includes the exclusive, iconic T-visor helmet that can be switched out for the original design of the Boba Fett helmet, which I find preferable for display.

CONS: Price is the biggest obstacle that collectors will encounter with this piece.

Toyguide Update: BB-8 (Holiday Edition) Mini Bust (2016 PGM Exclusive)

holiday_bb8_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the  2016 Premier Guild Exclusive BB-8 (Holiday Edition) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS: Excellent sculpting and deco, and the lights are a perfectly festive touch. LED lights are bright and the button batteries are included (preinstalled). 3 lighting modes give the collector options, although I suspect most will choose the solid (non-flashing) setting.

CONS:  Must be a PG Member to purchase ($120) which will probably drive the after market price higher in the future.  Fragile antennae could easily break if not handled properly.

Toyguide Update: 6″ TBS C-3PO (Walgreens Exclusive)

c3po_walgreens_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue with our next entry in the 6″ Black Series assortment with the Walgreens Exclusive C-3PO.

PROS:  Now this is a droid you recognize! We finally have 6″ version of C-3PO to pair with our favorite astromech, R2-D2. Like the C-3PO (Resistance Base) that came before, the sculpt on this version is fantastic and painted very well, even without the vac-metal finish. What is also surprising is that (despite what you may have read elsewhere) this figure is not just a repaint of the Resistance Base version. The Walgreens C-3PO features a distinctly painted AND SCULPTED wired abdomen section. Huge kudos to Hasbro for not just phoning it in and giving us something truly unique.

CONS: For as in-demand as an Original Trilogy version of C-3PO has been (and rumored), it is surprising that this version is a retailer exclusive. Again, no accessories are included with Threepio which seems like a bit of a slight considering the possibilities.
