YakPoll – New Vehicles!
June 29, 2006 | 9:09 PM EST | Scott

I’m officially declaring 2007 as the year when Hasbro stood up and said…” HERE…now shut up! ”
I’m referring of course to the wealth of goodies that are very close to being confirmed for late ’06 and ’07. Long awaited EU figures like Quinlan Vos and the Yuuzhan Vong. Long time wish-list figs like C-3PO with bendy knees, Hermi Odle and Biggs in Tatooine outfit.
And of course the knock-you-on-your-ass surprise confirmation of the upcoming Sith Infiltrator and V-Wing fighter vehicles. Yep, they said they would never happen but here they come!
So for the purposes of our latest YakPoll, let’s turn our attention to the NEXT wish-list vehicle you’d like to see happen.
Will it be the ever popular AT-TE? Jabba’s floating pleasure palace the Sail Barge? or will you go with something smaller like Grievous Starfighter or the LONG overdue Twin-Pod Cloud Car?
Hasbro said some of these would never happen either, but now, I’m not so sure. Vote now, Hasbro could be reading!

Not very low price cuts yet, but if they are starting to clear them out, it’s a good bet they will be lowering these prices quite a bit more in the coming weeks.

YakPoll – Health Of The Hobby
June 22, 2006 | 11:50 PM EST | Scott
Now that Episode III is in the history books, and the film Saga is now complete, how do you feel about SW collecting today?
Do you feel it’s going as strong as it was in the good ‘ol days of POTF 2, POTJ etc.? Perhaps it’s merely taking a breather before the next big frenzy hits. Are we witnessing the beginning of the end or has it already arrived?
Hasbro has the SW licence until 2018 but do you feel fandom at large has enough steam (and money) to sustain it that long?
Let us know what you think, vote now!

Toyguide Update: Skirmish In The Senate
June 10, 2006 | 2:11 PM EST | Jayson

This weekend’s update continues with the Skirmish In The Senate Battle Pack. Within the imagery, watch Yoda and Darth Sidious go toe-to-toe in a duel for the fate of the galaxy! And in case you hadn’t heard or had forgotten, the Aurabesh text on the Senate Pod reads: “SW FANS RULE”. Hey… that’s us!
Note to Hasbro: Please make a Darth Sidious dressed as he was in this pivotal scene!
Toyguide Update: VTSC Luke Skywalker
June 10, 2006 | 12:38 PM EST | Jayson

This weekend’s update kicks off with Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot from the VTSC line. A great figure all around – too bad Hasbro overlooked giving him the wrong lightsaber hilt attached to his flightsuit. (Yep, that’s dear ol’ dad’s weapon.)
Custom Spotlight – Fritzkrieg’s Baron Fel
June 10, 2006 | 12:38 PM EST | rykrofenloe
This weekend’s custom spotlight is an excellent version of Baron Fel by customizer Fritzkrieg. Very nice work and extremely life-like. This is definitely a figure that I think would do very well if Hasbro were to go back to making more EU figures and another reason I think Hasbro should pay more attention to what the customizing community does (hint hint Hasbro!).
Great job Fritzkrieg!

Thanks Mike! Well this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. But it’s nice to see other stores TRYING to take steps to thwart thieves.

Hey, At Least They’re Trying!
June 8, 2006 | 9:39 PM EST | Scott
I gotta give props to the folks at the Roseville Michigan Toys R Us. I was in there this evening and noticed that each and every one of their VTSC figures were encased in those hard plastic security cases with the magnetic tag on the inside, used for large software boxes, to prevent premature opening and theft of the UGH LucasTrooper stickers.
This still doesn’t solve the problem of the stickers being removed at home and the figure returned later, but I gotta hand it to them, they recognize that it’s a problem and they’re trying to do something about it! Way to go guys!
Any other stores taking measures to prevent theft of the UGH stickers? Email Me and tell me about it.

STAR WARS™ MINIATURES GAME ADDS A NEW DIMENSION TO THE SAGA
Champions of the Force™ Unites Your Favorite Heroes and Villains
From the Star Wars Expanded Universe
Renton, Wash (June 9, 2006) – Champions of the Force, the latest expansion from Wizards of the Coast’s highly popular Star Wars Miniatures Game, allows heroes from the light side of the Force to fight the powers of the dark side in this collection of characters that delves deep into the expanded universe of the Star Wars saga. With an all-new, very-rare Yoda, and more plastic weaponry elements than any prior expansion, Champions of the Force kicks the gameplay into hyper-drive!
Players can declare their allegiance to the Rebel Alliance and engage in battle in pursuit of peace and freedom throughout the galaxy. Or they can fight on the dark side of the evil Galactic Republic to try to suppress the Rebel do-gooders! The pre-painted standard-scale (30mm) plastic miniatures allow players to stage exciting and unique battles using characters from the full gamut of the Star Wars saga, including the six movies, computer games, novels, comics and animated series. Players can immerse themselves in skirmishes with familiar characters, such as Jedi Master Luke Skywalker or Darth Maul, as well as characters new to the game, such as Jaina Solo or Corran Horn (from the best-selling Star Wars® novels).
Each Champions of the Force booster pack contains seven random Star Wars Miniatures from the 60-figure set. Miniatures from this new expansion can be used with the latest starter game, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith™ and combined with other expansion sets to make the players’ ultimate Star Wars battle come to life!
The starter game, which allows two players to immediately engage in competition, has a suggested retail price of $24.99 and includes four non-randomized and two exclusive miniatures and their matching stat cards, game board, 20-sided die, and game play instruction book. Champions of the Force booster packs, available in June, have a suggested retail price of $12.99. Each booster contains seven randomized figures — including premium figures in every pack — allowing players to build their teams strategically.
Star Wars Miniatures products are available in hobby shops and major retail stores nationwide.

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal Reviewed
June 7, 2006 | 8:13 PM EST | Bill
.
Aaron Allston turns in yet another outstanding entry in his series of Star Wars Novels. Fans of his work with the Wraiths in the Rogue Squadron series, will immediately recognize the opening chapters’ venue on Adumar, centered on a now 30ish Jacen Solo and his 13 year old apprentice Ben Skywalker.
All of the old favorite characters (at least those still living) from the Star Wars universe make appearances, including a certain “out-law” relation of Han Solo we met in the Corellian trilogy.
Allston brings us to a still recovering Coruscant, that 10 years after the New Jedi Order’s Vong attacks is still struggling to recover from the effects of the “vongforming” it underwent.
As Legecy opens we see the roles Han, Leia, Luke, the Solo children and Ben Slywalker have grown into in the decade since the events of the Swarm War. The Galactic Alliance has coalesced, however the events of this series threaten to tear it apart- pitting many old friends agasinst each other, as their alliegances to the Galactic Alliance and their home planets are placed at odds. History fans will find parallels between the American Civil War and the juxtaposition of the dramatas personae of Legecy.
Allston does an incredible job of pulling strings and characters from across almost the entire Expanded Universe, fleshing out a number of characters we’ve seen before, and adding new dimensions to their characters, and back stories. Through the course of the novel we gain more insight into the Sith order, and Palpatine’s place in it. While some unresolved questions about the nature of the force are used to provide cameos to both the Prequel and Original Trilogy characters, others are explained to the point of becoming major plot points.
The last 60 pages of the book provide some of the most fascinating exploration of the philosophy of the Star Wars Universe and fastest action in the novel. Among the issues EU fans will find explored are the nature of Verger’s relationship with the force, and first hand insight into how Anakin Skywalker’s injuries on Mustafar affected his skills as a Sith. The novel continues to build on the questions of the nature of the force, and the relationship between light and dark; Jedi and Sith, which began to grow during the New Jedi Order, promising very interesting plot development as the series continues.
Allston, in what many fans will enjoy, also takes a thinly veiled shot at the Special Editions PC-ness, with a line of dialogue, I’ll describe simply as remember whatever else happens Han shot first.
**UPDATE** For anyone in the Indianapolis area, Mr. Alston will be at the Barnes and Noble in Carmel Thursday June 8th to sign. You can also have you picture taken. The signing is from 7pm until ??, line tickets will be handed out starting at 5pm.
Yak Reader’s Tip
June 6, 2006 | 11:40 PM EST | rykrofenloe
I received this nice email from a reader today with a cool pic.
“Love the site. I have included some pics that I thought might be of interest to your fan base. Turns out that Kraft Promotions put out a bendable 3 inch ET a while back. These are great for use with the senate pod from the Skirmish battle pack. They are easy to find on ebay; just type in “Kraft ET” and some should come up. – Tim”
Thanks Tim, finally a good place to put those E.T. pack-in figures from a while back!
Got a tip, an idea, or news for your fellow collectors? Feel free to send it in!
Update – Dave L. writes in with a tip for anyone else wanting to find an E.T. figure to add to their Senate scenes.
“That was a fun post! I thought I’d share my tip for some of the younger readers. LJN toys back in the eighties at the pinnacle of E.T’s popularity produced many PVC figures that I found are perfect 3/4 scale. I found this guy ( attached picture) in a local thrift store toy bin for . 25 cents. A fun addition to a collection and unique toy hunt until Hasbro makes an E.T. senator figure.
I know I know…I need to dust.”
Pretty cool too, I wonder if Hasbro would ever be able to make an actual E.T. figure…

An Oldie But A Goodie

Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels at Buy.com
June 4, 2006 | 1:37 PM EST | Keri
If you are like me, you were putting off buying the Prequels Chronicles book,buy.com has a little bit of a deal on the book brand new. Buy.com is and has been running a special where they are 10% off Amazon’s low price. So, instead of the retail of $150.00, Buy.com is priced at $85.05 with free shipping. Not too shabby of a price, and for a heavy book like this one free shipping is a big plus, even it is a little slow.
I ordered the book a few weeks ago and already got it and I highly recommend it if you are a customizer of any kind. The highly detailed photos are amazingly clear and the book is outstanding in general. The only thing is, I wish there were a few more pages on the Clone Wars animated (of which I am a huge fan) but otherwise, the book is a great addition to any complete SW Library.

UPDATE Hunt For Grievous Order Cancelled
June 3, 2006 | 11:26 PM EST | Scott
NOTE: The following post is regarding MY personal order only. Your individual experience may vary.
I just got this very annoying email from Amazon…
” We are sorry to report that we will not be able to obtain the following item from your order:
“Star Wars Battle Packs The Hunt For Grievous”
Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we’ve since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you.
We have cancelled this item from your order. ”
AAAAAAARRRGH!!!! Says I.
So what does this mean for the rest of you that placed an order? Did you folks get a similar email? Or did yours ship as ordered. Me? I ordered mine on the day they changed the name at Amazon from Defense of the Senate to Hunt for Grievous, perhaps they over-sold prior to that, OR perhaps it’s no longer an online exclusive. Reports have come in of it being found on the shelf at a couple random TRU’s. (California and Idaho so far – Thanks Chad!)
We’ll keep you updated as reports come in.
UPDATE It didn’t take long for Yak readers to chime in…
Brent – I just wanted to to say that I was also contacted by Amazon…however, my notice was just for my approval of a delayed order. They did not cancel mine…but, they DID give me a new estimated delivery date that has been pushed back to JULY 21!
Tony – I placed my order around the time that they changed the name as well. I received the cancellation notice as well.
Alex – I too ordered mine the day the name changed. I also had a preorder (a month in advace) for the Clones Gunship. I have not received either, despite the fact that they said over and over the Grevious pack would go out, the Gunship[ is a whole other story in itself. I was sooo pi$$*d I called Amazon directly, this was two days after the original pre-order release date at that time they had no inventory what so ever for either the Gunship or the Grevious pack, and three were 3000 or so open unshipped orders for the gunship and 5000 for the Grevious pack, that was two days after the original May release date, and they’ve been taking preorders ever since. They switched my orders over to overnight and gave me free shipping, luckilly I found the gunship locally but still nothing on the Grevious pack, I didn’t even receive a courtesy message like you telling me I would never get it. What erks me the most is that when I ordered that Battle Pack it said In Stock. Anyways that’s my experience with the whole thing thus far.
Vince – On Friday I received an email saying that the Hunt for Grievous and the Clone Wars Gunship have been delayed and if I still wanted them I needed to update my order. So I updated it and then I received a confirmation notice that they were still on order. I hope this doesn’t change, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did get canceled. Like you, I placed my order the same day I heard the name change. I noticed that both an no longer available at Amazon.
That’s a few of the responses we’ve gotten so far. Hopefully Amazon will receive more stock or they’ll start showing up at TRU’s with more frequency. As of now Amazon is showing that the Battle Pack is no longer available but you can sign up for an email update to be notified when it comes in. Joy.
Anyway, there’s a lot of Clone Wars Gunships out there that need a crew, here’s hoping they all get one. Big thanks to all who wrote in!
What’s under Momaw Nadon’s Hammer Head?
June 3, 2006 | 7:08 PM EST | rykrofenloe
After hitting several Walmarts this morning, I lucked out and found two Momaw Nadon figures, at different locations. Planning on customizing one, I popped off their heads and noticed two different neck peg types. Minor variation, but a variation nonetheless.

Looks like Sideshow may have had a couple of cancelled orders or declined credit cards…there are somewhere around 20 of these left in a second chance sale. Personally, I can’t think of any way I’d rather spend my afternoon than sitting across from this at a table and thinking “Han shot first!”
UPDATE: Purchase of the Droids Ver. 2.0
June 3, 2006 | 6:08 AM EST | Jayson

Remember back when the POTF2 “Purchase of the Droids” Cinema Scene came out? Well, now with the release of R5-D4 (without nonsensical rocket firing feature), what better opportunity to recreate that scene with a bunch of action figures, vehicles and playground sand! To view more photos be sure to check out #032 R5-D4‘s page in today’s update of the Yakface Toyguide.
Hmmm, I wonder which other figures from the Tatooine wave I can play in thesand box with?

Endor & Naboo Figure Pics
June 2, 2006 | 3:58 PM EST | rykrofenloe
Head on over to Rebelscum for some great images of what is to come later this year! Wow!
The original source of the images, The Mandalorian District writes in with news that they have acquired a pic of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi in that wave as well. My personal favorite is their awesome pic of GRAGRA, who appears to have a moveable jaw?
While some of the figures are rehashes and kit bashes, there are some brand new sculpts of all new figures as well.
You Determine the Edition Size!
June 2, 2006 | 11:09 AM EST | Mark B
How about this? Sideshow is going to let US, the collectors, determine the edition size of some of their new collectible figures. Introducing the “Inclusive” Program. Basically, they will only make the number of items that are ordered during a set time period. So, everyone who wants one, gets one. This will be great for some obscure characters that we want made! Full details are at theirsite. The first figure to feature this system will be the new 12″ Star Wars figure that will be announced next week.

June 1, 2006 | 11:11 AM EST | Scott

Have you had a burning question that you’ve been aching to ask the Star Wars team at Hasbro, but didn’t have an outlet to do so? Well now you do!
Hasbro has set up a new weekly question and answer session where YOU ask THEM anything that’s on your mind. (within reason of course).
Only a select few questions will be answered from each week’s submissions (and other websites are participating too) , so don’t be disappointed if they don’t get to yours right away.
We didn’t have much of a head’s up for the first one since the deadline is tomorrow @ 5pm EST, so hurry and get your questions in quick.
