Pride Display ANH Diorama RETIRED

After 3,000 pieces, the Pride Displays ANH Vintage style display diorama has been retired. Less than 1,000 pieces are still available throughout the UK, EU and US.

Pride Displays first Star Wars diorama was a blast from the past in every sence, and grabbed the attention of admiring fans across the world. With it’s 70’s packaging and classic sculpting style it was destined to be special piece, and now only a special few will ever know how sweet it feels to look upon their cherished Star Wars figures on the original Pride Displays Star Wars diorama. Thanks Jeff. Remember, officially the Holo Emperors are due to be released on 10/30 and are free with a purchase of $30 or more. If you’ll remember, the Silver Vaders last year were supposed to be free with a $30 purchase also, and they ended up on the pegs at $9.99 ea.

A Case For Film Restoration, Not Tampering

This is a rather off-topic post, but I hope my reasoning will be made clear.
I just finished reading an excellent interview over at The Digital Bits, concerning the hours of labor intensive work that has gone into the restoration of the classic KING KONG for the upcoming DVD relase (Nov 22). At one point, they talk about making the film cleaner than it has been since 1933, and the temptation to tamper with obvious visible flaws, specifically, rods used to control some of the puppets clearly visible in some shots.
Their feeling is that if it wasn’t fixed in 1933, it shouldn’t be fixed today. Here’s a couple lines from the interview…
” RH: I totally agree with that position… because when a modern audience looks at what are essentially optical artifacts… it stops the film. It affects the performances… it affects everything in a negative way.
NP: It removes you from the experience. ”
Damn straight. Could someone make GL read this article? Restoration is one thing, but tampering with the visuals is something else altogether. Click the link above to read the whole interview.

Can our favorite freedom loving alien Rebel Bai Ling sing? We shall soon find out as she and other celebrities compete in (yes another reality show) on VH1 called But Can They Sing? American Idol style voting determines which celebrity will stay and which should never pick up a mic to sing again. Competing alongside Bai Ling are Morgan Fairchild, Joe Pantaliano, Antonio Sabato Jr. and former boxer Larry Holmes. The show is set to premiere Sunday October 30th on VH1 at 10pm EST. Sideshow Collectibles is starting their annual Halloween Spooktacular Wednesday. They usually have various specials only avaialable for a few days. One of the things they have let me in on for this year’s event are several unannounced preorders. I don’t have a clue what the could be, but you never know, a new Star Wars item could pop up! Also, they have added the 18″ Han Solo back to “second chance”. I was told that a large retailer cancelled their order, so they have a few of these left. I finally had time to open my Luke Skywalker today and all I can say is INCREDIBLE.

” Just a ‘heads up’ to any fans out there who have ordered costumes from StarWarsShop.com: We ordered the ‘Baby Yoda’ and ‘Baby Vader’ costumes for my son a few weeks ago. I haven’t received any updates so I e-mailed them today. In spite of the fact that the costumes were ‘In Stock Now’ when I ordered them (and show up that way right now), their decidedly unhelpful ‘Customer Service’ department informed me that they won’t ship until November.
Needless to say, if I’d known I was placing a Halloween 2006 pre-order, I would have gone somewhere else.

UPDATE Looks like it might be more likely a problem with the manufacturer than with the SW Shop as this Yak reader writes in to tell us…
” My wife and I ordered the infant Yoda costume for our child back in early August and it arrived at our house last Saturday (October 15th). I had received about 3 or 4 backorder notices from the retailer over the 2 and 1/2 months that we waited for the costume to arrive. I made repeated calls and nobody seemed to know what was going on. All Star Wars costumes from the infant lines to the adult costumes (deluxe princess Leia, etc) were MIA.
I decided to investigate a bit. I called a number of OTHER online Star Wars Halloween costume retailers to see if our retailer was just crappy or if there was similar problems elsewhere. They all said the same thing… “The manufacturer has had a hard time with the Star Wars costumes for some reason. Missing components. Wrong components. You name it.” The infant Yoda costume specifically had a waiting list of over 400 people @ onestepahead.com as of October 12th. Since our child’s costume arrived last Saturday it sounds like a small number of the costumes are starting to ship but they are in limited supply. 🙁
Not really the best news but at least it is information that you can go off of. “

According to Yahoo! News…
Not too long a time from now in a cable galaxy not so far away, you’ll be able to watch all six Star Wars flicks.
Spike TV has opened up the vaults to secure television rights to the entire George Lucas space opera. The Viacom-owned male-centric network signed an exclusive six-year deal worth a reported $65 million to $70 million.
According to Daily Variety, Spike won a fierce bidding war against NBC Universal’s USA Network and Sci Fi Channel and Turner Broadcasting’s TBS and TNT that pushed up the price from an initial $50 million, where it hovered a few months ago, to Spike’s record offer.

This is for all readers in the midwest who are familiar with the “Fleet Farm” chain of stores. I happened to stop in to one last night on the recommendation from a friend. And much to my surprise they had quite the selection and GREAT prices!. Basic figures were $4.89, 500th SE Vaders $14.89, AT-RT with Driver $11.89, Clone/Stormtrooper & Anakin/Vader (2nd version with VI on front) $19.69 each. Not a bad place to check out if you are looking to army build, customize or fill in those gaps at a reasonable price. Click here to find a store near you.

The cake has Anakin (hangar duel) and Padme (droid factory chase) on the top defending the grounds from 8 different clones ascending the top. The three pack of clones with the red clone is present along with (green) 33 commander, 6 shocktrooper, 41 SA clone, 49 Bacara, and a POTF scout trooper haha. ”

” Got some interesting news at my local (Lynwood, WA) Toys R Us today. I inquired at the customer service desk about an exact release date for Emperor Hologram figure, and of course, they didn’t know what I was talking about. But they found it in their computer,
and informed me that their warehouse in CA had 4000 (units, or cases, they didn’t specify). Only their store in Anchorage AK, had any orders pending. The awesome person helping me, suggested a rain check for the figure. Now, here’s where it got good. She put me down for a couple figures, saying that putting down more figures would put up a flag to the warehouse of interest, and would get the item possibly shipped sooner. So, if others get rain checks, and show interest, the chances may be good that the figures may arrive sooner!

Battle Pack Clones ARE Movie Accurate

I’ve seen this question popping up frequently in forums and the like lately so I thought I’d answer the question once and for all. Yes, those grey clones in the Attack On Coruscant Battle Pack ARE in ROTS.
Right after the scene where Mace, Obi-Wan & Yoda are having the conversation in the Gunship about Anakin and the prophecy, it lands at the Clone Embarkation area to drop Yoda off en route to Kashyyykk. The landing area is guarded by these very same grey decoed Clone Troopers. You can spot em yourself when the DVD hits in a few weeks.

I was going to dispense with the reports on the successful usage of the DPCI numbers at Target, since it’s now clear that they work, but since Nojj here showed the Yak so much love, I had to post it…
” Thanks to my daily reading of Yakface I scored two each of the of the Target exclusive lava reflection Obi-Wan and Darth Vader figures. There weren’t any out on the floor, so I went to the price check scanner and put in the DPCI numbers. Sure enough, the scanner said they had them in the stockroom. I went to a sales associate and asked very nicely for her assistance and she looked up the numbers herself, went to the stockroom, and after about 5 minutes she came back with 2 cases unopened. I was so excited!!! I was able to go through the cases and take out the best looking ones! It looked to me like there were 6 or 8 of both figures in each case. It’s definitely a great improvement from the last one. Now that I have the Vader, Anakin, and Luke F/X sabers, I can’t wait for Mace Windu’s. ”

Well, I decided to hit a couple of Targets using the DPCI codes and made a partial score.
Target #1 using the DPCI codes scored me a Clone Attack On Coruscant set. I was told the other items were showing up as out of stock (mustafar figs and shadow trooper). The associate I talked to was nice beyond belief.
Taking a run to Target #2 I tried the same trick. The associate said they had the stuff in stock but they were not allowed to set them out before 10/16 or they would get assesed a heavy fine. Um……yeah.
So one exclusive down, two to go. Yay!
I thought I’d share another positive DPCI experience sent into me by Yak reader Doug…
” This same exact method just worked for me today at a Target store in Des Moines Iowa. I would encourage every one to run these numbers through a price checking station at Target. I got the Clone Trooper attack 5 pack and both Obi-Wan and Darth from the Mustafar duel figures. Each of these items showed available in the stockroom and I got an employee to dig them out for me. This store did not, however, yet have the Stealth Clone Trooper, although it did “find” the item at the price checking station. Another Target store on the opposite side of town had “item not found” on all 4 DCPI numbers.”
The codes work folks! Use ’em but be polite, the associates are going out of their way for you when you do this. It’s far easier for them to say ” we don’t have them ” and blow you off.

Rapper, voice actor, pioneer, MC CHRIS best known on TV as the voice ofHESH (the greatest cartoon character known to man!) on Adult Swim’s Sealab 2021(among others) has launched a major U.S. tour.
What does this have to do with Star Wars? Well, if you’re not familiar with MC Chris’s work you need to get acquainted with him, he liberally peppers his lyrics with all manner of references well known within the geek community. One of his best works is a track called Fett’s Vette which is brilliant. He is essentially the world’s first geek rapper.
In addition to his songs, he and his team also have a series of very funny audio skits including a one called The Imperial Senate which is a mock SW discussion forum.

OWK Starfighter & Gunship return to TRU

After my score yesterday I thought I’d press my luck again today but at TRU this time. And what did I find? A lone ROTS Republic Gunship!!! Now I have a transport for my Coruscant Clones. I had passed on this version months ago (on clearance at Suncoast Pictures) because I didn’t really need a third version, but after their scarcity the past 6 months, I wasn’t about to let this one slip through my fingers. They had also placed a case of the Exclusive Obi-Wan with Jedi Starfighters from earlier this summer, so with all the exclusives at Target lately, don’t forget those TRU stores, you’ll never know what you’ll stumble upon.
UPDATE – Scott If Jayson will pardon my intrusion upon his post, I’d just like to chime in that I saw a guy walking out of my local TRU (Troy, MI) with TWO ROTS Gunships this morning. So there are definitely a few still out there in circulation.

It looks like lava came early this year. While previous reports had the Target Lava figures hitting stores in November, our friends over at Death Star Plans 2.com scored the Exclusive “Lava Reflection” Obi Wan and Anakin/Darth Vader figures as well as the Target clone trooper battle pack today. As some of the staffers here may have known, after months of planning, traveling and happy tears, my fiance and I got married this past Saturday in a beautiful outdoor ceremony with our closest friends and family and we couldn’t have had a better day.
