Confirmed: Droid Factory Globally Cancelled

We have received official word from Hasbro that the rumors are true: the Droid Factory assortment for 2013 has been globally cancelled. Look for the figures that were intended for this line to be released through other means in late 2013. Expect more details to be released (and questions to be asked) at Toy Fair 2013 next month.

The following is an official statement on the 2013 Star Wars toy line from the Hasbro Star Wars team.

Star Wars fans,

The Droid Factory line which was slated for spring 2013 has been cancelled. We were very excited about this line at its inception and wanted to give fans an early sneak peek when we unveiled it at Star Wars Celebration this past summer. Unfortunately since then, through the course of development, we realized that the price would have to be increased and we felt that the value we were adding with the droid parts was no longer substantiated.

As a result, we have decided to rework our 3.75” figure program to create a line that is on-par with the quality and pricing of the Vintage Collection. Many of the figures intended for the Droid Factory will become available in this new line in the fall. We’ll be able to share more news on this at Toy Fair.

We also recognize that there were many hard-to-find Vintage Collection figures in 2012. So, as we shared last December, we will re-release many of these figures this spring before the Vintage Collection goes on hiatus, making way for some of the most exciting new initiatives for SW collectors in years.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.

Disney Droid Factory Part Update

Thanks to an article post from Yakface reader DarthChuckMc, it appears that almost all (except 2) parts for the Disney Droid Factory Astromechs are now available at Star Wars Weekends. Here is what he had to say:

Today they had 56 of the 58 parts available. No silver with blue R2 heads or black R2 bodies. All other pieces currently out were accounted for as of 6pm.

Toyguide Update: Royal Starship Droids (Walmart Exc.)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with the Royal Starship Droids Battle Pack (2 of 2) from Walmart’s exclusive “Discover the Force in 3-D” collection.

PROS: Walmart picks up a great exclusive here. Anything astromech related has a huge following in the collecting community as demonstrated by their steady sell through at retail. The deco on all of the droids is great making these the most accurate versions to date. As a bonus, these figures use the B.A.D. sculpt which promotes a ton of customizing options and additional play value. R2-N3 (the green one) gets a debut here and each droid includes their power harness/docking stations – all of which act as a huge accessory set to the Naboo Royal Starship/Playset from 1999.

CONS: Some may not like the Build-A-Droid/Droid Factory play system. Initially difficult to find but the set is now shipping in greater quantity. Since there is only one new figure (by name) in this set collectors might feel obligated to pick this up by that reason alone.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.
