Today we’re rounding out the month of January with the drop of 13 new Black Series code names added to our Master List of products for 2022.
The first 8 all have code names with a California theme:
Los Angeles
San Diego
Oakland
San Jose
San Francisco
Santa Clara
Sacremento
Palm Springs
The next three have “color” code names:
Fuchsia
Navy
Rouge (no, not Rogue)
The last two are labeled
“September”
“Seasonal 1” (not the same Target SKU as the unreleased Holiday Mandalorian Warrior)
The first 8 figures all have a mainline (non-exclusive) pre-price increase MSRP of $19.99* while the next 5 all carry the SRP $26.49* pointing to those all being exclusives.
*for now
No details yet on their identities – except for two – they are Force users.
As we’re all well aware, increased costs for manufacturers worldwide since the pandemic started continue to affect us today and Hasbro is not immune (no pun intended). Retailers/distributors have been notified that price increases will go into effect in the coming months. It may take some time for those prices to hit shelves and online stores but expect to pay a few bucks more per figure (in all scales) before too long.
With this news, how will it impact your collecting?
Note: this topic is off limits for political discussion in the comments.
2022 will continue Target’s annual trend started in 2019 of offering an exclusive Retro Collection Prototype Edition figure. So far, we have Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Imperial Stormtrooper – question is: who will be next? Precedent shows that it will most certainly utilize an existing mold and with the 2021 Stormtrooper having a colored weapon (one of 6 variants), I have a strong feeling that for 2022 we will see Chewbacca (with colored bowcaster) join in the multicolor madness.
Let it be stated, I have zero confirmation that it will be Chewie – just a feeling – but after some recent investigating in Target’s system, I do have strong evidence there is a new Prototype Edition figure code named “Eraser” for $13.99.
You may recall, based on our previous report, that Boba Fett had the code name “Chalk” and the Stormtrooper had the code name “Blackboard”, so “Eraser” fits rather nicely into this naming and pricing convention.
Obviously, no official information is known yet, so this is all speculation and rumor until then.
In a press release today, Hasbro has announced a renewal of their agreement with Lucasfilm to produce merchandise for Star Wars and that Hasbro will be producing new Indiana Jones merchandise for 2023.
Hmmm… 6″ Adventure Series anyone??
Even though the blood isn’t dry on the last exclusive debacle with Target, this morning I did find evidence of another potential exclusive in their system. “Lawrence” is the code name for the as-of-yet unidentified item, but we do know the price ($26.49) and it falls in-line with the Walmart exclusive carded Deluxe TVC Mandalorian & Grogu (Maldo Kreis) “expression”.
