Toyguide Update: Mission Series – Senate Duel

TG_senateduel_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with our next entry in the Mission Series line as we take a look at the Senate Duel set featuring Darth Sidious and Yoda.

PROS: As many of you know, I’m totally in the bag for this line so it doesn’t take much to impress me when it comes to Saga Legends/Mission Series figures. That being said, the Darth Sidious has a very Kenner-esque flare from the design of the robed legs to the rather static sculpt. Surprisingly, Darth Sidious has 7 POA (he has swivel wrists!) if you count the nearly unposeable head/neck joint.

CONS: The deco for Sidious’ face isn’t great – something that is a common theme for this line so I’d expect to see samples both better and worse than the version I have. Yoda is a repaint/repack so there’s not much to complain or rejoice about there.

Toyguide Update: TBS #22 Yoda

TBS22_yoda_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with our next entry in the The Black Series 3-3/4″ line. Today, we take a look at Jedi Master Yoda (#22)*.

PROS: Arguably, this may be one of the best looking Yoda figures on the surface, especially when used to enhance the OTC #01 Luke or the upcoming TBS #21 figure. The fabric for the robe is tailored fairly well and has enough fraying to look used without a lot of shedding. The backpack accessory is well done and is a nice improvement on prior iterations. Since this figure has limited articulation don’t expect a lot of posing options but given the reference material he is drawn from, he serves as an decent representation.

CONS: Articulation for this figure is very disappointing considering it is part of the Black Series line – a line touted as being “for collectors”. There was great potential for this figure judging by what was initially planned – it’s a shame that so many corners were cut in its production. With its limitations, Yoda is essentially an accessory (albeit a nice looking one) for the Black Series Luke – a figure with its own problems.

Head to the toyguide for the partial image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this piece is worth adding to your collection.

While new figures in MedicomToy’s Kubrick line seem to be a thing of distant memory, that doesn’t mean the releases have ended. JediDefender has alerted us to word of an exclusive carded Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) given out at the 2014 Medicom Toy Exhibition Preview Party. The figure itself looks to be a reissue of the DX series Jedi Luke minus the bone accessory. Click the image above for a closer look.
