Episode 344: Decade of the Clones

We are rapidly approaching the tenth anniversary of the second Star Wars prequel film–Attack of the Clones. With the proto-stormtroopers, the emergence of a new Sith Lord, and Boba fett’s father Jango, this movie was built up to with all the hype that came with the Star Wars prequels. On this week’s Star Wars Action News podcast Marjorie and Arnie look back at the Episode II hoopla, from the Saga Collection of figures’ midnight release to Star Wars Celebration II in Indianapolis, as well as their own personal connection to this prequel.

Also on this week’s podcast, the third try was the charm for Sideshow’s Premium Format Stormtrooper. After two damaged pieces, Marjorie and Arnie have gotten a complete piece of this Sideshow collectible. With its portrayal of the faceless troops of the Imperial Army, is this something you should add to your collection? Listen to find out!

With Nathan P. Butler’s final entry in his look back at the Hasbro comic figure packs, Brock’s review of The Essential Guide to Warfare, a new line of statues from Sideshow Collectibles, and 25 new astromech figures, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Acton News podcast!

Toyguide Update: CW14 Aayla Secura

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Aayla Secura (CW14) – a welcomed reissue for 2012 in The Clone Wars line.

PROS: Collectors for a long time have wanted a second chance at adding some of the figures from the last waves of the 2009-2010 Clone Wars line to their collections. One of the more sought after figures was Aayla Secura (CW40). Thankfully, Hasbro has reissued/repacked her for 2012 and since she is a figure from “a more civilized age”, she is loaded with articulation and is well accessorized.

CONS: The goggles/breath mask combo is a little cumbersome as the eyewear tends to pop off easily and because of how the breath mask is designed, she is really limited to just looking forward while wearing it. Thankfully all the superfluous accessories are removable so that alleviates the issue entirely.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.

Sideshow Mythos Preview: Ben Kenobi

Sideshow Collectibles has updated their “Sideshow Experience” section with a preview of the upcoming Ben Kenobi “Desert Nomad” Mythos statue. As you’ll see the details are beyond amazing and the likenesses are uncanny. Although this is a prototype, hopefully they will address the fact that they have the wrong lightsaber (Episode II design) for Anakin Skywalker attached to his pack.
