Toyguide Update: Podracer Pilots Figure Set

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of our next entry for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with the Toys”R”Us exclusive Podracer Pilots figure set from Episode I.

PROS: A great way to start or suppliment your podracer character collection if you missed out on the initial releases of these figures. The inclusion of the team flags is a nice touch and to have them be plastic and not paper is a welcome surprise. Each figure also includes a Galactic Battle Game card which is great if you enjoy playing or collecting the cards themselves.

CONS: There is nothing really worth picking up here unless you really need the flags which are plastic (not paper). If you’d like these flags without buying this set, you can get custom version that I created here.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this set is worth adding to your collection.

You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.

New LEGO Sets Hitting Retail

Looks like Hasbro isn’t the only one who’s products are showing up before the street date. Today I spotted the new LEGO Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor at Target. This set includes 3 new “Hard-to-Find” figures: ROTS Anakin Skywalker (with 2 different faces), Nute Gunray and Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as a Security Battle Droid and R2-D2. You can also recreate the Mustafar Duel! Click the image above for a closer look.

ToysRUs also has a new mini LEGO set: Anakin’s Podracer (now $4.99)

Toyguide Update: Republic Troopers

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of our first entry for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We kick things off with the Republic Troopers Battle Pack from The Clone Wars.

PROS: This set provides collectors with 3 new clones not offered previously, making it the real attraction of this particular assortment (the other two case mates are are laughably bad). The paint apps for each clone are well done (aside from Hardcase’s helmet deco being off slightly). The game cards get a refreshed design for 2012 and now invoke more of a trading card feel with large character portraits on one side with the game matrix on the reverse.

CONS: The figures themselves are great, some might protest the utilization of the “Stone” mold for 2 of the troopers but it is what it is. It is a bit disappointing that the Bomb Squad Trooper doesn’t include any actual bomb accessories.
