UPDATE: Tragedy Strikes the Star Wars Community

We have some very sad news to share as a great friend in the Yakface community has passed away tragically.   Mike Martinez, also known around the customizing community as Mercury Art Studios, was killed in a car accident on July 2.

Mike was a moderator and active customizer in our forums, and a full time staff member at Echobasenews.com – he was also running a new customizing contest over there, which will still be completed – so if you have ever been into customizing, there would be no better tribute to a fellow collector than to enter a custom of your own into this contest that he worked so hard to put together here.

The good folks at Imperialshipyards.net are pitching in to help his family by collecting donations, and there has also been an outpouring of support and condolences on his Facebook page.

Above all, Mike was a great person and a devoted father.  He will be sorely missed and our prayers and thoughts are with his family and those closest to him.

UPDATE: If you wish to send a donation directly to Mike’s fiancee Hollie, here is the Paypal address with which to do so. totalsurvey8@windstream.net

Yakface.com 2.1

And we’re back! Based on the results of our facebook poll posted yesterday, it was apparent that the new format was not as big a hit with a majority of our readers as we would have hoped. So, from here on out we will be presenting the news in a more traditional “blog style” format. We hope that this change is to your liking and you will continue to use Yakface.com has one of your sources for daily Star Wars news. By the fans… for the fans!

Sorry about the mess.

Well that went well didn’t it. We had a corruption in some files that caused the format to go a tad haywire. Until we get things straightened out, please enjoy this vanilla format for the “new” Yakface.com. Hopefully we’ll get things sorted out for you soon.

APRIL FOOL’S: Yak Face Becomes Blue Snaggletooth

After much deliberation, we’ve decided to choose a new “mascot” if you will for our site. Good ol’ Yak Face, in his varied forms, has served us well for these past 15 years, but we think a new direction is needed. Our name sake will be gradually phased out and replaced by another highly sought after Vintage Kenner figure – the illusive Sears Exclusive Blue Snaggletooth! The current Yakface URL (www.yakface.com) will also be replaced by a new web addresswww.bluesnaggletooth.com as will our Forums, Facebook and Twitter pages to reflect the change. We hope you like this new vision and be sure watch for even more improvements including an entire site redesign in the next few weeks!

Young Fan in Need

The folks over at Action Figure Empire are spreading the word about a young Star Wars collector in need.

Eli has been diagnosed with a rare life-threatening disease called Severe Aplastic Anemia, which is a disease of the bone marrow. They are helping to lift his spirits by donating Star Wars toys to this little guy. If you’d like more information on how you can donate a Star Wars toy, please click here.

For those ever interested in becoming a marrow donor, more information can be found here.

Special thanks to forumite DarthDaddy for bringing this to our attention.
