Toyguide Update: Stormtrooper (SL01)

SWR_SL01_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with the next entry in the Star Wars Rebels 3-3/4″ line. Next, we take a look at the Stormtrooper (SL01) from the Saga Legends line.

PROS: Very reminiscent of the vintage Kenner figure from a sculpt standpoint – very clean and simple. There will be many opportunities to build stormtrooper ranks as the figure will be available individually and in various Mission Series sets. You’ll want plenty for your Rebels to fight.

CONS: Like the Mission Series figure, the stormtrooper does have a slight color shift in the limbs and head (which are slightly yellow) compared to the bright white body. Paint apps are still a bit of an issue from figure to figure as the paint masks (like stormtroopers) can miss their intended target most noticeably on the “frown” and eyes.

Toyguide Update: The Phantom with Kanan Jarrus (Target Exclusive)

lf30

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with our next entry in the Star Wars Rebels 3-3/4″ line. Today, we take a look at the Target Exclusive release of The Phantom with Kanan Jarrus.

PROS: Despite being repacks of prior releases, the inherent value of purchasing this set is there. The Phantom seems true to its on screen appearance — one can only hope that there is a Ghost in development. A great value as collectors can get a figure and vehicle for the price of the vehicle alone.

CONS: Paint on Kanan Jarrus could be a bit tighter as there are places of bleed over on the arms.

Toyguide Update: R2-D2 and C-3PO (MS02)

r23po_MS_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with the next entry in the Star Wars Rebels 3-3/4″ line. Next, we take a look at the R2-D2 and C-3PO Mission Series set (MS02).

PROS: As a fan of the series and its aesthetic, these figures harken back to a simpler time of limited articulation and features – or lack there of. The sculpts for each droid are sharp and on par with the figures in the line thus far. There is room for improvement on the paint apps, but due to its limited application, there shouldn’t be too much of an effort required to track down good samples once they start hitting retail.

CONS: I would say the C-3PO is the lesser of the two sculpts here as the design, while reflective of the series, is very cartoony while R2 looks realistically styled. C-3PO also suffers from being a bit bland despite a minute metallic fleck in the plastic. The black deco applied to the mouth is in a word “weird” and is slightly distracting. It’s odd that Hasbro choose to tool up an all new R2 when the prior Saga Legends/Mission Series figure would have worked just as well.
