VC16 Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with addition of Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: Although we’ve been inundated with this figure sculpt for 5 years, it is still a solid mold without being overtly outdated. Nice likeness and well accessorized.

CONS: A better figure is available in the 2010 Saga Legends line for $1 cheaper. The knee joints suffer from “ostrich syndrome” and the ankles are distracting with the contrasting joint inserts.

VC15 Clone Trooper

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with addition of the Clone Trooper from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: A nice super super-articulated plain clone trooper for our collections. Keep an eye out for the versions that have the belt flipped in the correct orientation.

CONS: Missing paint apps on the helmet make him look plainer than he already is. Helmet is also prone to yellowing/discoloration. Light in the accessory department – a spare DC-15A blaster rifle would have been a nice extra. Wonky hip articulation doesn’t add a whole lot in terms of “fun factor”. Some versions have the belt assembled upside down. You can get a better ROTS clone trooper in the Saga Legends line cheaper and you get extra weapons and a stand.

New AOTC Carded Images at Sandtroopers

The squad at Sandtroopers.com have gotten their Imperial clutches on the first look at official carded and loose images for the upcoming Attack of the Clones wave consisting of Kit Fisto, Zam Wesell, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker (Peasant Disguise), Padmé Amidala (Peasant Disguise) and Jango Fett. Not shown from this wave are the Senate Guard, Mace Windu and the Super Battle Droid. Head on over for a closer look.

VC13 Anakin Skywalker

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with addition of the Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: The definitive ROTS Anakin/Pre-Suit Vader. Takes the TAC version and gives it the arm articulation it deserved all along. New head sculpt is pretty sweet too.

CONS: None.

Hasbro Cutting Back on Quality?

There have been forgivable instances in the past where Hasbro’s white armored military (clones and stormies) end up yellowing over time.

But over the past year you may have found that more and more figures that are brand new and still hanging on the pegs are suffering from this (look closely next time you are at a store – there is a good chance you’ll notice this on the new Legends Clone Troopers and perhaps even some Clone Wars figures).

Is Hasbro trying to save a buck by using cheaper plastic that turns parts of these figures yellow and sometimes even green right after they are produced?

Sound off with your thoughts in the Yakface Forums.

UPDATE – Our friends at both Banthaskull and Jeditemplearchives have addressed this as well. Hasbro should be fully aware of this problem. Time will tell how they respond.

Update: Damaged Boba Fetts Galore

Reports are coming in that collectors are receiving the vintage rocket firing Boba Fett… however so far it looks like most people are receiving these in very poor condition. Head on over to the forums to share your thoughts.

Update: Yakreader Jeff wrote in to say he contacted Hasbro Consumer Affairs Division (1-800-327-8264) regarding his damaged Fett. They offered to send him a replacement and a return label for his damaged one. Might be worth a call if you are in the same situation.

VC14 Sandtrooper

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the Sandtrooper from the Vintage Collection.

PROS: About as close as we’ll get to an “ultimate” sandtrooper/stormtrooper for a while. Excellent sculpt and you don’t have to buy a Dewback to get one. Loaded with articulation and accessories.

CONS: Far too clean to be a Sandtrooper. Should have included electrobinoculars for more playability.
