Toyguide Update: SDCC Exclusive Luke Skywalker (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust

sdcc_McLuke_bust_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the SDCC Exclusive Luke Skywalker (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS:  It’s hard to believe that it has been four years since the release of the Darth Vader (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust, but alas, this year’s offering is the perfect complement to it. The interpretive design, much like the Kotobukiya and Hasbro releases before it, captures Ralph McQuarrie’s original style and vision for the hero. The sculpt and paint apps are impressive leaving little room for improvement. Essentially, this is a must-have for any McQuarrie aficionado or mini bust collector.

CONS: None. It’s pretty fantastic.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this bust is worth adding to your collection.

You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.

New Star Wars Rebels Images

I picked up a new Star Wars Rebels book today from Toys”R”Us titled Star Wars Rebels: Head-to-Head which matches up characters and vehicles from the new series. It contains a lot of new characters and vehicle details as well as plot points for the series. I posted a sampling of them on our Facebook page, but to remain sensitive to spoilers, I cropped out the plot info from the images.

The softcover book is available now for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of Aug. 26, but you might be able to find yours in-store early as well.

Customized Star Wars Command Figures

Yak reader Darth Ray writes in with a story of a special project he and his son have been working on involving the new Star Wars Command game from Hasbro.

“My son was inspired by the latest episode of “The Realm Recap“. He has started painting (or should it be called re-painting?) Star Wars Command figures. He started with the Ewoks. The attached picture shows the painted Command Ewoks and the Hasbro/Lego Ewoks that inspired the design.” “We’ve always said a Star Wars license should something like this!”

Excellent work Ray! I think the Command line is a perfect “starter pack” for people that are interested in customizing but don’t want to tackle painting a more expensive action figure quite yet. The painting of Command figure could serve as a canvas for honing/developing skills before moving up to a larger scale.

Star Wars: Armada Miniatures Game

ArmadaBox

Fantasy Flight Games (Star Wars: X-wing™ Miniatures) has published official details for the new two-player miniatures game, Star Wars: Armada

Massive Star Destroyers fly to battle against Rebel corvettes and frigates. Banks of turbolasers unleash torrential volleys of fire against squadrons of X-wings and TIEs. Engineering teams race to route additional power to failing shields. Laser blasts and explosions flare across the battlefield. Even a single ship can change the tide of battle.

In Star Wars: Armada, you assume the role of fleet admiral, serving with either the Imperial Navy or Rebel Alliance. You assemble your fleet and engage the enemy. Using the game’s unique maneuver tool, you steer your capital ships across the battlefield, even while squadrons of starfighters buzz around them. Then, as these ships exchange fire, it’s your job to issue the tactical commands that will decide the course of battle and, perhaps, the fate of the galaxy.
