GTP Toys – Tantive IV Playset Update

A lot of questions have been posed regarding the status of the 1:12 Scale Tantive IV Blockade Runner Display Set. Recently GTP sent out an email notifying current and potential customers about a shake up in their business as well as production delays due to COVID restrictions for their first officially licensed product. They look to be able to full preorders by July/August 2021 and no more will be made after that due to low sales volumes. If you’re looking to get this for your collection it may be best not to wait.

The wait is over! Now officially licensed, GTP Toys & Collectibles has launched its latest product for the 1:12 collecting community: The Tantive IV Blockade Runner Replica Display set.

Measuring over 36-inches long, this jaw-dropping scene is large enough to display more than 30 1:12 scale figures at a time. The set features a removable door, realistic floor, 100+ static and blinking LEDs, and is loaded with tiny details and accuracy that only comes from access to the Lucasfilm source materials.

TVC Freezing Chamber In-Hand Pics and Thoughts

While some do not like the lack of the “claw” and the “non-playset” design, I personally find the approach that Hasbro took by allowing for collectors to add lighting elements and modular stair designs based on their own approach as a huge plus. The aesthetics are nice, however, this thing is not meant for play (the steps will fall right off). But as a display item, it’s pretty nifty.

Hasbro’s TVC Freezing Chamber has been arriving on doorsteps via Gamestop the past few days. I snapped a few pics of a quick setup in the forums that you can see by clicking here.

Do you love this thing, or hate it? I’ve seen some passionate views noted on social media from both angles. Since I’ve been begging for collector oriented displays for over two decades now, I’m pretty excited to have this in my collection now. So, I’m biased for sure. Let us know what you think!

Norm brings this project to the cave to go over the details with Adam in our first socially distanced show and tell, and then walks us through the design and build process for integrating LED lighting, mirrored hallway illusions, and acrylic joinery. We’re hooked on making book nooks!
