Clearance of Destiny

In what should not be a surprise to many, Walmart stores are starting to clearance the Forces of Destiny line as part of their “post-Christmas” clearance binge.  Check your local store if you were looking to acquire these.

Personal Note:  I thought this line was doomed as soon as it was announced.  And I rarely see anyone pay attention to them in the stores (I do casually observe other customers).  This felt like a “forced niche” item that Disney pushed, and I would feel this line has fallen short of retailer expectations to this point.   For those that do like it, or have children that enjoy these, I hope the line continues for years to come.  But I personally can’t see it having legs for an extended time; unless it’s marketed better and perhaps the product moved to the store section the audience these are targeted at frequent most.

Got Ross?

Hasbro’s “Wal-Mart Exclusive” Black Series AT-ST is showing up at some Ross stores for a mere $21.99 – one heck of a price for this spectacular vehicle and driver figure.

Personal Note:  Chalk this up to another miscalculation by Hasbro… while they made the legs more sturdy, and this is a fantastic toy, the standard MSRP of $59.99 is just too much for a vehicle that has seen multiple releases over the past decade; especially when the target audience is people who probably have already bought multiples of it.

However, if it came with a Jedha rebel, and perhaps a small Jedha building wall section, this would have been a smash hit – but that kind of thinking probably doesn’t even cross Hasbro’s mind.

New “Solo” Force Link 2pk Info Found

One of the listings that we posted last week for the Force Link 2pks for Solo: A Star Wars Story has been updated. It now includes the description: “SWU S2 Hermes and Perseus Guard” and, as we deciphered the other day, “Hermes” is the code name for “Lando Calrissian”. This marks the first Force Link character we’ve been able to confirm for the 3.75″ Force Link/SWU line for Solo. The pertinent info as been transferred to our Master UPC/SKU page found over in the right column of the site. Stay tuned for more details as we find them.

UPDATE: Perseus Guard = Kessel Guard

Forces of Destiny Downgrade?

I commented on this when we initially posted the images last week, but thought I’d give wider attention to the fact that Hasbro has downgraded some of the articulation on the upcoming Forces of Destiny figures – removing elbow, wrist and possibly knee joints.

Does this lend credence to the theory that the target demographic doesn’t care about articulation and/or is it the fact that Hasbro would rather hit a more attractive price point by reducing the number of tooling costs and parts? Word is that the figure price will drop by about $5.

Before She Was the Fastest Hunk of Junk in the Galaxy

“What a piece of junk!”
“She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid”
“This bucket of bolts is never gonna get us past that blockade”
“Then we just float away…” “…with the rest of the garbage”
“She’s the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy”
“The garbage will do”
“Blast that piece of junk out of the sky!”

The Millennium Falcon has always been the subject of mockery in terms of its appearance, but there was a time when the Falcon was all-new. Han said he made some “special modifications” and soon we’ll get to see what it looked before Han took ownership.  With Solo: A Star Wars Story coming out in a few months, be prepared to start seeing a fresh, slightly sleeker depiction (and a slightly different silhouette) for one of the most iconic starships in film. And as you’d expect, we’ll be seeing a wide range of toys and collectibles from Hasbro, Mattel, LEGO and more as well.

Update: Rumor Report: 6″ Black Series “Solo” Wave (16)

We’ve been doing a bit more digging over the weekend in order to try to shore up the breakdown for first wave of 6″ Black Series figures set to launch in April for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Like previous launches, the wave will feature figures from different film sources, not just Solo. Based on an image I’ve seen and what’s been deciphered from the code names, the wave breakdown should be as follows.

2x Han Solo
2x Imperial Range Trooper
1x Captain Lando Calrissian
1x Grand Moff Tarkin
1x Death Squad Commander (40th Anniv. repack)
1x Jawa (40th Anniv. repack)

Update 2/23/18: Death Squad Commander will now be designated “Death Star Trooper” and have Photo Real face printing.

The Day After Clearances Begin at Target

Retailers are wasting no time starting their post-Christmas/end of year clearances. I braved my local Target this morning (Plymouth, MN) and snapped a few pics and grabbed a few items as well. At this particular store, you can find the Black Series Centerpiece Vader and Luke for $14.98 (reg. 49.99), Black Series Rogue One 3 pk for $17.98 (reg. $59.99), Target Exclusive Era of the Force Action Figure 8pk.  for $19.98 (reg. 39.99) and Poe Dameron’s Ski Speeder for $19.98 (reg. $39.99). Head to your local store to find deals like these and more, and of course, your selection may vary.

Rumor Report: What We Know For Solo

With The Last Jedi in the rear view mirror for many, we can continue our focus to products for Solo: A Star Wars. As a refresher, we revealed through several articles (below in reverse chronological order going back to October) new products from Hasbro and Mattel.

Stay tuned for a more accurate breakdown of the first wave (wave 16?) of 6″ Black Series figures that will include characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story very soon.

Also, a friendly tip: 99% of the products with UPCs that we have shared over the months, can be found directly on Amazon.com and Walmart.com with a little app-fu and the barcode scanner built into their respective apps. You’re welcome :).
