Vintage Distribution Nightmare Continues

For many collectors, it’s becoming more and more frustrating to find the new figures in The Vintage Collection at retail.

Instead, what we find are an increased dedication to Clone Wars and Legends, and stores even adding promotional space for those lines, like the image above provided by forumite Tsophika.

So, why is it that stores keep getting in more of those figures while ignoring Vintage? Why does TRU seem to have a sale every month promoting those lines, and ignoring Vintage? Why are we having to rely on online retailers now to get the new Vintage figures, but are being forced to purchase carry forward figures in those case assortments?

We invite all of our readers to sound off on your thoughts on these issues and how this is affecting your interest in the hobby in the forums.

VC37 Super Battle Droid

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the Super Battle Droid from the Vintage Collection’s Attack of the Clones wave (Wave 4).
PROS: Decent sculpt with Geonosis specific deco (at least on the legs). “Swirled” plastic helps convey the look of metal. Looks great on the Vintage cardback and the superfluous blaster pistol is great for customs or the parts bin.

CONS: Lacks the ankle joints present on the recent Geonosis Arena sculpt. Shoulder joints are still impossibly tight when trying to position them laterally.

VC36 Senate Guard (Update)

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of the Senate Guard from the Vintage Collection’s Attack of the Clones wave (Wave 4).
PROS: Best. Soft Goods. Ever. Hasbro’s design team managed to select a fabric to use for the guard’s inner and outer robe that looks like it was sampled right from the costume itself. Even though the underlying figures is 6 years old, the improvements to the articulation, sculpt and deco give it new life.

CONS: Robes are slightly longer than necessary, but nothing a little creative posing can’t remedy

Update: Alternate cardback images added.

VC49 Fi-Ek Sirch (Jedi Knight)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of Fi-Ek Sirch (Jedi Knight); the final figure from the Vintage Collection’s Wave 6.
PROS: Hasbro went “all-in” in addressing the problems of the original Nikto Jedi. This all new figure is loaded with articulation (except ball-joint hips), features an excellent sculpt and has the coolest robe of any Jedi available thus far thanks to Hasbro’s choice of fabric.

CONS: None. Buy it!

Hasbro Toy Shop Orders Sent in Bubble Mailers

If you have placed any orders with HasbroToyShop lately, you could be in for a bit of a surprise when you receive your order.

Some orders are being split into separate packages, and when this happens, it appears the “second” part of the order is being sent via bubble mailers to save them on shipping costs.

The result? Damaged cardbacks. If you’re going to open these anyway, you should be fine. But if you were planning on them all being on minty cards, you might want to check out the photos provided by Yakface forum member AaylaSecurasMan by clicking here.

VC48 Weequay (Skiff Master)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the Weequay (Skiff Master) from the Vintage Collection’s Wave 6.

PROS: A long time request has been knocked off the must have list of figures. Great sculpt on the outfit which is further enhanced with a light paint wash that makes the uniform details “pop”.

CONS: Odd shoulder joint/sculpt overemphasizes the “poofy” shoulders of the outfit in certain poses. The transition from the jacket collar to neck is oddly sculpted – almost as if a detail was inadvertently left off.
