Revenge of Bounty Hunting: 1978 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog
February 28, 2006 | 3:47 PM EST | Keri
Although this year’s Toy Fair has come and gone, today’s Bounty Hunting looks back towards the vintage days of Kenner and their offerings of toys in 1978.
Toy Fair and the harder to acquire Pre-Toy Fair Kenner catalogs allow us a rare glimpse at many toys that were never available for sale. These catalogs are literally a treasure trove of unproduced action figures and other items in packaging that simply never made it to the store. Also pictured are various store displays, including hanging displays and shelf talkers. If only we could get into a time machine and go back to 1978! The catalog also contains other lines of the day including Six Million Dollar Man, Easy Back Oven and Stretch Armstrong. These catalogs do come up for sale from time to time. However, it can be tough finding them in nice condition without writing on the cover, clean inside pages and no dog-eared pages as well. Today’s auction appears to be nice and clean from the photo of the cover. Click on through to add this great reference item to your collection today at a great starting price!

Star Wars Action News – Episode XXVII
February 28, 2006 | 8:36 AM EST | Scott
This week Arnie gives a review of his experience with the Star Wars miniatures game. Arnie resisted getting into the minis until one fateful afternoon in Paducah, Ky when he won the starter set as a door prize. Anyone who plays this or any the TCG knows that these can be addictive. We know some listeners are hardcore about this game. Will Arnie be joining them?
I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah where they make chocolates. Listener Scott from Tulsa sent Arnie and Marjorie Dagoba Organic Chocolate bars. Listen as Arnie & Marjorie sample chocolate bars containing out of this world things such as lavender and nibs.
Are you looking everywhere you should be for figures? One listener reminded us about some often forgotten locations for toy runs. Listen this week to make sure that you are making the most of your toy runs.

Save a horse, ride an Aiwha!
February 28, 2006 | 4:11 AM EST | rykrofenloe
Today we spotlight another fantastic custom by Owen D., his hand sculpted Aiwha from Kamino!
Although this creature saw little screen time in Attack of The Clones, the design was originally created for The Empire Strikes Back but never made it to the big screen until the second installment of the prequels.
Check out Owen’s site for more pics of this masterpiece!
Be Afraid… Be VERY Afraid
February 27, 2006 | 8:04 PM EST | Bill
There’s a new feature on The Official Site for Hyperspace members looking at some of the behind the scenes artwork from A New Hope– specifically Wuher’s, err well his necklace. That’s right, there was a suggestion for him to have a necklace. While that concept alone may seem scary, wait until you see the sketches– no we’re not talking about a gold chain, it’s far more, erm, detailed.Click here to check it out.

Star Wars TV Shows!
February 27, 2006 | 8:18 AM EST | Mark
Over at Movieweb.com they have an interview with Steve Sansweet talking about the upcoming 100+ hours of Star Wars coming our way…
Steve Sansweet: We’re doing it in two phases. The first is Star Wars animation, which is CG 3-dimensional animation, like a Toy Story, that takes place during the period of the Clone Wars that takes place between Episodes 2 and 3. And that we’re setting for Fall of 2007. Preproduction is underway, we’re doing animation test, people are working on initial scripts. So we’re well under way on that. And George is very much taking hand and is very much part of the whole process. I know some people thought maybe he would just hey “hey, go do it,” but George is Star Wars and he’s always gonna be very closely involved in this.
The other project is live action, and the live action is going to take place between Episode 3 and Episode 4. We’re looking at a 1 hour show and [Producer] Rick McCallum has said the ideal would be to come up with 100 hours to really get into the story line and characters, and that’s the direction we’re going in. So that is really targeted more towards the end of the decade

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage R2 Bubble Bath
February 26, 2006 | 10:52 PM EST | Keri
Even though R2-D2 got more dirty than he did clean, our favorite little astromech was willing to help us humans get as shiny as C-3PO.
Produced in the UK in 1977 by Cliro, the bubble bath was not in a plastic R2-D2 shaped bottle, but the awesome blue color and the cool graphics on the label made up for the differences. According to the blurb on the label you could “Let Artoo-Detoo into your bath and his sumptuous special suds will galatically surround you with a haze of frothical robot bubbles. Just pour one capful under the Force of your taps.” These are not the easiest bubble bath containers to be found if you live in the US. Although the label is torn, most of the graphics are still intact and the container is full of the original blue bubble bath which is a big plus in my book. In addition, the opening bid is quite a nice bargain. Click on through to add this awesome UK R2 bubble bath to your collection today!
Geonosis Wave
February 26, 2006 | 10:44 PM EST | rykrofenloe
This morning I saw the remnants of the Geonosis Wave at a St. Louis area Walmart, and also received an email from a local collector that the Geonosis Wave was found at a second Walmart in the area. Both stores had also restocked with the Hoth Wave. So this might be a good time to hit your Walmarts again if you still need figures from these waves or some extra army-builders.
Antarctic-Hoth!
February 25, 2006 | 3:03 AM EST | rykrofenloe
Long time Yakface reader and forum member at www.jedidefender.com, our friend Gatillo has recently returned from Antarctica, reporting the following:
“Here are some pics from the bottom of the planet. I wish that the Hoth wave had been out before I left but I made due with these.
The mountain you see in the background is Mount William on Anvers
Island in the Antarctic Peninsula.”
Sounds very cold and like an exciting career line – if you want to see more about what one of your fellow collectors did while on the ice continent –

Remember the Price Match You Will
February 24, 2006 | 8:22 PM EST | Bill
Yak Reader sent in this report Tony-Wan-Kenobi:
Hi I took my local Toys R Us weekly ad (saga figures 4.99) to WalMart and they price matched. I took my receipt back to WalMart with the other 14 figures I had gotten there and they refunded me the difference on those too.
As for Target lowering the price to back Mister Palpatine’s report, its true at my Target in Visalia,Ca. It seems there trying to have a more competative price to WalMart.
Happy Hunting

Target Saga Sale
February 23, 2006 | 9:56 PM EST | Bill
This just in from Yak Reader Mister Palpatine:
I don’t know if this is old news or new news, and I didn’t see anyone report this, but I went to my local Target yesterday, and the price of the Star Wars SAGA 2 figures to $5.89. I don’t know if this is a nation-widething, or if this is permanent or temporary, but you may want to check your local Target if you want to pick up the repaint or pegwarmer you’ve been holding off on because of the $6.99 price point. Thanks!!!

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: 1979 Montgomery Ward Catalog
February 23, 2006 | 4:41 PM EST | Keri
Admit it, when you were a kid growing up in the late 70s and early 80s, you loved looking at all the Christmas Catalogs from the big chain department stores like Sears, JCPenney and Montgomery Ward. I sure know that I did! Heck, I even remember circling things that I wanted for Christmas which was namely a ROTJ Lightsaber, those little Coleco arcade tabletop games like Donkey Kong and yes I wanted Care Bears stuff too.(I am a girl after all!) Today’s Bounty Hunting takes us all back in a time capsule to a 1979 Montgomery Ward Christmas Catalog.
These catalogs can be great fun as well as provide interesting photos of prototype Kenner items. In fact, a 1983 Montgomery Wards Christmas Catalog I own has pictures of the Bib Fortuna in Red Cape along with other ROTJ action figures that were available in the large multipacks. Today’s catalog features many earlier items including the Radio Controlled Jawa Sandcrawler, Death Star Station Playset and NEW Boba Fett 12″ figure. I find a great deal that is not only cool but fun about these catalogs. I enjoy looking at other toys I had, wanted and still think are cool to this day, like the Battlestar Galactica Cylon pictured on the other page next to the Star Wars stuff. The “fashions” of the day we all wore at one time or another are scary and funny all at the same time. The catalog appears to have no missing pages, the cover looks to be in good condition and the Star Wars pages look very bright and unmarked. This is a nice reasonable opening price for the condition of the catalog. Click on through below to add it to your collection today!

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Sealed Vintage Millenium Falcon
February 21, 2006 | 4:58 PM EST | Keri
Kenner made and sold an amazing amount of Millenium Falcon vehicles from their vintage run from 1978-1983. Today’s Bounty Hunting finds something that is a rarity among Millenium Falcons, which is one in a factory sealed Star Wars box from 1978.
It may not have looked like much, but the Falcon had it where it counted, especially in terms of playability. As a result, almost all Falcons were opened and enjoyed by kids, as they are meant to. Most Falcons found today can be complete in an opened box, have stickers applied, missing packing material or missing instructions. As a genereal rule, most are missing some parts and pieces here and there, and are much easier to find in loose condition. Today’s auction for a factory sealed box is something I have personally only seen once in my 15+ years of collecting vintage items. Although the box does have some damage and is not in perfect condition, it is still something that is seldom seen. Click on through to add this piece of Kenner history to your collection today!

Saga on Sale at TRU
February 20, 2006 | 10:03 PM EST | Keri
While stopping in at a couple of my local area Toys R Us stores this afternoon hunting for Mega-Buy 2 Packs, I saw some welcomed signs announcing SALE on Star Wars figures. From now until February 25, you can pick up Saga figures for $4.99 each. The stores I went to had only up to the Hoth wave, but this is $1-$2 cheaper than most other retail stores at the moment. This may not be happening at all Toys R Us stores across the US, but it was at the stores I visited in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. You might be able to get other stores like Wal-mart or Target to price match, but of course there are no guarantees.
UPDATE Scott C. here. Just wanted to chime in that I spotted the same sale at a TRU here in the Detroit area. They only had the Carkoon Wave however.
New Poll – Introducing The Saga To Your Kids
February 20, 2006 | 8:56 PM EST | Scott
In the current issue of Star Wars Insider, there’s an article about how future generations will never be able to see the saga the same way their parents did, and that most will view it in chronological order (eps. 1-6), rather than in release order (4-6 then 1-3).
I disagree, as a parent, I plan to make every effort to show Star Wars to my son the way his old man did circa ’77 – ’83. For instance, part of what made Darth Vader cool back in the day was not knowing what he was all about, he was just a badass in black armor who could choke a guy from across the room. Not to mention all of the other suprises along the way. (“I am your father” anyone?)
Whether you have kids or eventually plan to have them, you, as a Star Wars fan, have a very important decision to make, and today’s new poll poses that question to you.
Will you start your kids with the Original Trilogy or begin with Episode I on through the six films? Vote today!

Customizer Spotlight – Owen Driscoll
February 20, 2006 | 11:33 AM EST | rykrofenloe
Remember when Kenner made large playsets like the Death Star and Ewok Village to house your Star Wars figures? Those days may seem long gone now, but for years customizer Owen Driscoll has shown what could be done today if Hasbro were to pick up where Kenner left off; starting off with his amazing custom built Imperial Star Destroyer playset diorama.
For more pics of this masterpiece and to see more custom playsets and figures, check out Owen’s site www.owenscustoms.com as we we look forward to seeing his next project!
Star Wars Action News – Episode XXVI
February 20, 2006 | 10:16 AM EST | Scott
This week Arnie had another large box darken his doorway, and inside was a 2 foot tall dark lord of the Sith–Lord Vader from Sideshow with his partner, the ever squeaking mouse droid. Arnie waited not so patiently on the wait list for this item; now that it’s here what does he think of it? The item is reviewed on the latest episode of Star Wars Action News!
Plus Marjorie and Arnie learned all about what was shown at the New York Toy Fair this week, now our collecting pundits debate the various merits of the new toys which will be hitting shelves over the next few months.
Finally, this past week saw the coming and going of Valentine’s day. Arnie and Marjorie exchanged gifts, both Star Wars related and non…but Arnie suffered a faux paus of critical proportions, all in the name of Star Wars collecting. He lived to tell the tale, and it is told in this week’s Star Wars Action News.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: ROTJ Blanket MISB
February 19, 2006 | 12:13 PM EST | Keri
One good way to stay warm on cold winter days in to wrap up in a blanket, namely a brightly decorated Star Wars themed blanket! Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlighted auction features a Return of the Jedi blanket Mint in Sealed Bag.
Bed sheets, blankets, sleeping bags and curtains were produced by Bibb Co. in great abundance from the release of A New Hope through Return of the Jedi. Department stores like JCPenney, Montgomery Wards and Sears had certain designs available exclusive to their respective stores and catalog orders. Today, it is rather difficult to find blankets still sealed in their original packaging, thus prices can be quite expensive at times. Today’s auction is more than reasonable and cheap in the current price department. In fact, that price is usually seen for very well worn and used sheet sets. Don’t let this bargain pass your collection by, click through below and don’t get left out in the cold!

We’ve seen the Special Ops Trooper #65 in the Mega Packs at TRU in El Paso, Texas in large numbers. It appears that Hasbro had a number of this figure that didn’t make it into cases. There didn’t appear to be any pattern to the other figure bundled with them. Of the ones we saw on the shelf, no two sets were the same, and the figures ranged from the ROTS initial waves, up through the Tarkin wave.
Here’s Yak Reader Toadstool11’s report:
There are new toys r us mega buy 2 -packs, with a few of ROTS # 60 – 68, all have Tactical ops troopers in them!
AOTC Table Mats Auction for Charity
February 17, 2006 | 3:21 PM EST | Keri
Up for auction on Ebay are two very exclusive and very special Episode II table mats. Basically they are like a table cloth but a large circular mat rather than cloth material. These mats were used at a fund raising event originally held in 2002 at a special screening of Episode II benefitting the charity MediCinema. MediCinema brings the cinema to patients in hospitals who cannot attend a regular movie theater and then go home like everyone else. The theaters in the hospitals have 35mm screens, surround sound and can accomidate patients in wheelchairs, beds and their caregivers also. The mats are signed by many key celebrities who starred in AOTC as well as ROTS including Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, Christopher Lee, Rick Mc Callum, George Lucas and Jerome Blake who portrayed Mas Amedda. It was Blake who did the footwork, getting all the signiatures on these mats so MediCinema could benefit from the proceeds of their sales.
If you would like to learn more about MediCinema and the mats themselves, you can go to the Official Site and click here.
There are currently two mats up for auction now on Ebay, located in the UK which you may view and bid on by clicking here for the Alderaan mat and clickhere for the Naboo mat.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage UK Pencil Bag
February 16, 2006 | 4:01 PM EST | Keri
I personally don’t care for the overuse of the term “rare” on ebay as I have mentioned in past Bounty Hunting features. Today’s auction is something I would class as quite difficult to find though, and yes even rare for those of us who live outside the UK.
Produced in 1977 after the release of A New Hope by Helix, children in the UK had quite a variety of soft vinyl zippered pencil bags or cases to carry with them to school. Eight different character designs were available which included Vader, Han, Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, Luke X-Wing, Obi-Wan and Stormtrooper. Some of the character designs on the pencil bags were simply printed on and are not embossed or “puffy” like today’s Stormtrooper on the auction block. This makes no difference in value or rarity, but is just something that exists in this line of pencil bags. Most pencil bags were used and may have light staining from markers and/or ink pens and pencils which leaked in the bag. This is quite common and doesn’t detract from the overall collectibility or displayability. The designs are bold and the colors of the bags are bright, bordering on day-glo colors. Since there was never really anything like this offered in the US, these make a very interesting and unusual addition to a collection of school supplies. It is quite difficult to attain a complete set in a short amount of time, I have only a few myself. Today’s auction for the Stormtrooper is one of the coolest characters and the opening price is extremely reasonable. Click on through to add this nice pencil bag from the UK to your collection today!

TV Series Update
February 15, 2006 | 11:30 PM EST | Bill
It seems that we won’t be seeing the animated series or the live action Star Wars series as soon as many of us had hoped. The Force.net has posted a part of an interview with Steve Sansweet which says that the animated series will be based during the Clone Wars, and is looking to debut in the fall of 2007. He goes on to say that the live action series will be toward the end of the decade in an hour-long format produced by Rick McCallum. The goal will be to produce 100 of the episodes which will take place between Sith and A New Hope. Click here for more.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage Valentines
February 14, 2006 | 3:42 PM EST | Keri
This edition of Bounty Hunting focuses on saying Happy Valentine’s Day from the Original Trilogy universe. Though today’s auction is not for a complete boxed unopened set of ROTJ Valentines, loose Valentines can be fun to display in a collection also.
Produced in 1983 by Drawing Board, featuring ROTJ characters and artwork, these valentines came boxed for children to give out to each other and their teacher at school. The valentines were made of a thin cardstock and were in perforated sheets of 4, all contained in a decorated cellophane covered box. Today, these valentines are getting harder to find unused in the box. However, an affordable alternative are these loose valentines in today’s auction which are very reasonably priced. Click on through to the link below to add these great valentines along with some cool foldover cards to your collection today!

Early Figure Leaks Continue?
February 14, 2006 | 1:06 PM EST | rykrofenloe
Yak reader Dan from www.coreplanets.com writes in with a follow-up regarding the VSTC figures that were reportedly found at a Kansas Walmart recently –
“Not sure if this is related, but I would guess that it is. That Walmart also put out the new Marvel Legends assortment with the Giant Man build a figure. All those figures were production samples and prototypes that were not supposed to be put out. It seems that meeting are held at that Walmart and samples are sent to them to look at. Seems like this could be the same situation.”
So who knows for sure, but it seems this is the case, or one of those rare cases where a box got put in the wrong spot and accidentally shipped ahead of the scheduled time. As mentioned by Jeff from www.jedidefender.com some may recall a similar situation happend last year when a case of Revenge of the Sith figures showed up in a Minnesota Target in January alongside the Sneak Previews figures. It was just one box and months before anyone else found them.
If anyone else stumbles upon the VSTC figures, let us know!
Edit – Although the VSTC figures appear to have also shown up at another Walmart in Kansas, reader Jason sent in this information –
“In reference to the VSTC figures, They came from a Wal-Mart Year Beginning Meeting that was held at the end of January. They along with new toy merchandise such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Cars, Superman Returns, Marvel Legends, etc. were on display on a full size Wal-Mart in the toy department built inside the Kansas City Convention Center. They all get packed up and sorted and sent out. There were not many of the VSTC figs, but they also included the older ones that came out like Obi-Wan without the new packaging. It was a half full end cap. So don’t expect to see them anywhere else for a while.”
Thanks to both Dan and Jason for the information!
Star Wars Action News – Episode XXV
February 14, 2006 | 7:40 AM EST | Jayson
Hello again, everyone. Star Wars Action News has been on the air for six months now, and we bring you our most geographically ambitious episode to date! Arnie and Marjorie went to Dallas, TX to have a wonderful steak, and it just so happened Anthony Daniels was signing autographs at the Sci Fi Expo Fan Day in Richardson, TX. They discuss the finds (or lack thereof) on the drive from Illinois to Texas, and interview Gary X from Wattographs at the con.
However, one cannot talk about Star Wars collecting this week and not talk about Toy Fair taking place right now in New York, so Arnie interviewed Pete from Jedi Temple Archives to get his first hand reaction to the new offerings from Sideshow, Gentle Giant, Master Replicas, Lego, and Hasbro. And he mentions something about getting a little snow in New York as well.
Finally we have contests galore! We announce the winners of our contest with Andrews Toyz where our forum members were able to win a Gentle Giant Yoda mini-bust, an Internet Exclusive Wedge Antillies figure, a Saga 2006 Boba Fett, and a Saga 2006 Han in Carbonite figure, so be sure to listen to see if you won.
Moreover, Star Wars Action News and Wattographs have teamed up to bring you a contest like no other–a contest for Mas Amedda figures autographed by Mas Amedda himself, David Bowers. Listen in to find out how to win.
All this and much more is in the latest episode of Star Wars Action News. We thank you all for listening, and if you enjoy the show please remember to vote for us on Podcast Alley at: Podcast Alley.
With your vote at Podcast Alley we can continue to bring you news, insight, and off-beat commentary on all aspects of Star Wars collecting.
Until next week, may the Force be with your wallets!
Marjorie & Arnie
New Use for a F/X Lightsaber
February 13, 2006 | 10:42 PM EST | Keri
While I personally wouldn’t recommend this, at this year’s Tokyo auto show in January, one of the cars displayed there (a Honda Civic to be exact) used a F/X Lightsaber replica to keep the hood propped open. To say that the car was interesting is an understatement, but this was a way that I had not seen a Lightsaber used before. If you like Japanese cars as much as I do, click on through to see a large gallery of photos at www.cardomain.com
VSTC figures found!
February 13, 2006 | 10:36 PM EST | rykrofenloe
The hunt is on… the new VSTC figures have been spotted at a Walmart in Newton, Kansas. Whether these slipped out early on accident is unknown at this time, but be on the lookout for these at your local Walmart! The figures were found alongside several of the 2004 VOTC figures, which were on clearance for $5.00 each (so who knows, those could be showing up some again too!).
Toy Fair Update
February 12, 2006 | 10:15 PM EST | Bill
After two days of meeting with all of our favorite Star Wars pages, and wading through some snow, we wanted to bring you the latest 411 on what you can look forward to in our hobby this year:
Master Replicas
The Darth Maul FX Saber is huge when “fully assembled”– just look at the photos. It will be sold as “battle damaged” halves. Each of the halves is sculpted like the other battle damaged props– the emitter crystal is visible on the “damaged” end. A connector will be included which allows the two halves to be connected. Slimar to the way that the bottom of the hilt unscrews to access the battery compartment, the “locking” ring is removed and replaced with the coupler ring instead. The Maul Saber continues to improve MR’s FX technology, using AAA batteries instead of AA to produce a bright red blade when illuminated. In addition the fact two sabers are joined to make the full saber, means that you will have 2 speakers (1 from each half), producing great sound effects.
Mini news:
There will be a Qui Gon mini this year on the line. In our photos it’s on the top of the triple saber display on the right (shown on E2 Anakin base).
Mini blasters:
MR has continued to produce outstanding scaled prop replicas. As you can see from the photos, unless you’re holding the blaster in the palm of your hand, the detail would make you think that it is much bigger. The blaster will follow the saber tradition of a mixture of metal and plastic but will continue to have the detail and weight we’ve seen in the scaled replica line. In answer to the long running question, YES there will be chase props for the mini blasters. Here’s the major news– not only will 5% of the run be gold finished, 2.5% will be black chromed!
Studio Scale Models:
The detailing on the Y-wing is unbelieveable. The R2 shown at ToyFair will be replcaed with an R5 to be movie accurrate.
The Falcon is coming. That’s right, MR is planning on bringing a studio scale Milennium Falcon to us. Look at the details of the sculpting process they unveiled at Toy Fair. This prop will be quite simply HUGE. The Y-wing is big, but the Falcon is even bigger. Travis from Master Replicas was kind enough to hold up a silouhette for the studio scale falcon to show it’s size. The cutout is the length and width of the Falcon!
MR will definitely be releasing the Poker set this year, and it’s going to be even better than we expected. The chips themselves will not the the “standard” poker chips with ships/logos we’ve seen, instead they will be metal (standard chip weight 13 grams) with a sculpted relief image in the middle. Oh, and the case will be a replica of Han in Carbonite.
Sideshow’s display included their 12″, statue, and bust lines. Check out the detail on the Greedo bust. Our guide told us to stay tuned for Comicon where they will have a number of new products making their debut. We asked about the often discussed 12″ Snow Bunny Padme. She is coming, however because many people know that she is going to happen, we were told that “her release will be a little different than other figures.” Here’s the surprise, instead of being an “animated” 12″ figure, Padme will be based on the live-action model instead. More 12″ 1/4 scale and full size busts are on the way, but nothing that can be discussed at this point other than the next 12″ is down to three characters (but they couldn’t say which 3).
Gentle Giants biggest surprises were a set of cantina bookends featuring Han and Greedo. These are very nicely sculpted so that they can be used as bookends or placed together to form a diorama. The only thing that could improve it would be a blaster bolt from Han’s gun! Look for this to be a limited edition coming your way. The Rancor Diorama was also on display, and it definitely far surpasses the last rancor sculpture fans have seen. The Rancor is right on, and even has drool caught in mid-drip. The mini helmets from Tomy were on display and Gentle Giants is hoping to bring the second wave of them Tomy has in the works to US shores as well. We asked about the armory collection, and GG confirmed that it is still in development and that the Tomy helmets are not a replacement for it. GG is planning to produce higher end helmets for the armory line with more detail than we’ve seen on Tomy’s product in about the same scale.
Code 3 confirmed that large sculpted posters for Episode 1 and 2 are on the way and will be available in late spring or summer. The presculpts are very impressive. The likenesses are much better than the their previous entries, and the overall qualily surpasses what we’ve seen so far. A few minis posters are in development and may be available by or shortly after Comicon as well. In addition, Code 3 is working on a new concept for fall that they couldn’t discuss, but promise it will be most impressive. If that wasn’t enough, a full size style C poster for A New Hope is under consideration as well.

Tons of Toyfair Images Now Online!
February 12, 2006 | 5:28 AM EST | Jayson
I’m burning the midnight (4 a.m.) oil and now have the Hasbro and Lego Toyfair photos uploaded for your viewing pleasure…you’ll find about 150 images from those two manufacturers alone!
Enjoy!
FYI: While I was editing down the photos I noticed a couple typos on the figure bases again, namely Chief Chirpa (spelled Chief “CHIPRA”) and Moff Jerjerrod (spelled “MOJJ” Jerjerrod). Maybe the Yak staffers can point those out to the Hasbro reps. to save them from having to correct it later… in turn saving variant hunters some money too ; )

For now.. here is the ultimate sneak peak.. no one else has this image…This is one of the chase figure holo exclusives.. as you can see, they are no longer holo, but painted silver… click the image for the full pic… The chase figures.. as you can see in one of our images in the toyfair section.. they are foil cards, that contain silver bases, and a silver holo figure. There will be two chase cards per case. The figures themselves will NOT be a variation at all.. JUST THE CARD, BASE, and HOLO figure.
Toy Fair News Update
February 12, 2006 | 12:14 AM EST | Bill
By now, you’ve probably read on Hasbro and Star Wars’s pages that the case figures, will involve 10 figures, on cards with silver foil, with silver stands, and silver hologram figures. We’re in the process of setting up literally hundreds of images from Hasbro and Lego for your viewing pleasure. Among them is a detailed image of a silver/chromed hologram figure, from the sample carded chase figure we saw.
In addition the mystery of the “chase” gold Vader Titanium Tie Fighter has been solved. It will be a promotion for conventions this year, and samples (shown above) were available in the Hasbro show room.

New Member Joins Yakface Staff
February 10, 2006 | 1:09 PM EST | rykrofenloe
I would like to thank both Bill and Keri for inviting me to join the team at Yakface – the first Star Wars site I ever visited years ago in the early POTF2 days; and always one of my favorite places to go for news in the Star Wars community.
Some viewers who are forum members at other sites may recognize my username, “CHEWIE” from those sites. As a vintage collector when I was a child during the early 1980s to getting back into the hobby in 1995 with the POTF2 line, I have now focused my collection on the fun art of customizing.
I hope to be able to work with the team here to bring current collecting news to many Star Wars fans, as well as help work on some special custom projects for this site. Not only will the Rykrof Enloe photonovel series have some spotlights here, but a new photonovel series for Yakface is in the works as well… plus some features of one of the most talented customizers in the hobby today, Owen D.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to join the Yak Team. I am looking forward to a long and enjoyable ride!

Indiana Jones 4 News Update
February 9, 2006 | 1:30 PM EST | Keri
With the release of Harrison Ford’s new film Firewall opening February 10th, he has been promoting the movie and doing interviews. Questions regarding the fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series have surfaced and the tight lipped Ford gave some small insight on www.tmz.com as to when we might actually see the film released as well as when the plot will take place. Indy fans can hope for a possible release in 2007, with a plot taking place “sometime after World War II.” Ford also talks briefly about the Prequel Trilogy and the immense special effects dwarfing emotion between people in films today. To read the entire interview on tmz.com, click here.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage LED Watch
February 9, 2006 | 1:17 PM EST | Keri
There have always been a large selection of Star Wars character watches for fans to choose from and wear on a daily basis. Ever since A New Hope in 1977, watches have been produced from many different companies. Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlights an early Bradley LED wrist watch featuring our favorite droids.
Bradley, along with Texas Instruments sold licensed watches in the 70s-80s. Bradley watches were analog style as well as digital LED, while TI’s watches were all digital. Bradley produced far more Star Wars watches than TI in a large variety of designs. The most popular design on Bradley watches by far is the droids, C-3PO and R2-D2. Most watches found today are without their original packaging and the condition can be rather lackluster with scratches to the face and/or missing watch bands. If you are looking for a nice example for your collection, look no further than today’s auction. An important thing to look for in collecting unworn watches in their original packaging is to make sure the battery has been removed, or has not leaked acid onto the watch inside the case. This is something very simple to overlook, but something that can really ruin a good watch. Some watches were packaged on a carback in a blister, some were available only through catalogs like Montgomery Wards and JCPenney and were sold in cheap vinyl bags. Still other packaging has the watch in a hard plastic case like today’s auction. Make sure the instructions and paper logo are still intact as well when buying unused watches. Today’s auction has all the important things to look for, and appears to be in very presentable condition, at a very affordable price also. Click on through below to add this classic watch to your collection today!

Mini Mini Busts
February 8, 2006 | 10:22 PM EST | Bill
We found these at a Sun Coast in Nashville, TN. Here’s the surprising thing– they’re about the size of 3 3/4 figures, and as you can see from the image above VERY resonable– the full set of 8 for $9.99. It appears that these were originally released for E1 as the copyright dates stamped on the busts are 1999, not to mention Padme, Jar Jar, and Pod Racer Anakin.
UPDATE:
Yak Reader Dave from Starwarslife.com sent this in:
I just saw the post of the $9.99 mini bust collection. Just wanted to let you know that when I was in Europe in 2000, I found a set of these (loose, not boxed) at a little toy store in either Paris or Rome- cant remember exactly. So they have been around… just not here! Just thought you might like to know!
UPDATE 2:
We’ve been getting a lot of email. Thanks to everyone who wrote in. It appears that these were originally released in the us with bars of soap, where you had to use the soap up to “release” the mini bust. They reappeared about 4 months ago in the packaging shown above at Target and were displayed on the trading card aisle.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage Ewok Toothbrush
February 7, 2006 | 5:43 PM EST | Keri
Love them or hate them, Ewok merchandise is here to stay. In the days after ROTJ, Ewok items dominated the store shelves, cashing in on the cuteness factor and the fact that younger children than myself at the time found the big fuzzy teddy bear creatures irrestible. Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlight turns onto a Wicket Preschool electric toothbrush.
Kenner began producing Star Wars themed electric toothbrushes in 1977 after A New Hope and all the way through to ROTJ. The toothbrushes were all electric and were all in the shape of Luke’s lightsaber from A New Hope. The one thing that did change was the graphics on the inside of the plastic housing of the toothbrush, changing themes for each film released. After ROTJ, Kenner came out with a Preschool line, which was sadly not modeled after the main characters like Luke and Leia, but was instead Wicket the Ewok in super cutesy Muppet Baby-esque form. The Wicket toothbrush was no longer a lightsaber, but was now a tree trunk, although the shape was still very similiar. Look for them sealed in the box complete with 2 toothbrush heads, much like today’s auction. Click on through to add this Ewok toothbrush to your collection today!

Star Wars Leads Hasbro To 4th Quarter Net Rise!
February 7, 2006 | 12:26 AM EST | Brandon
Looks like Star Wars is indeed “FOREVER.” Bloomberg reports Star Wars helped Hasbro gain a 15% increase in profits during the 4th quarter! This is indeed good news for the Star Wars line.
Bloomberg.com reports:
Feb. 6 (Bloomberg) — Hasbro Inc., the world’s second- biggest toymaker, said fourth-quarter profit rose 15 percent, driven by sales of “Star Wars” action figures and lower costs.
Net income increased to $94.3 million, or 48 cents a share, from $81.9 million, or 44 cents, a year earlier, beating estimates. Sales rose 1.2 percent to $1.07 billion, the Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based company said today in a statement.
“Star War” figures, light sabers and vehicles boosted sales for the U.S. toys division by 16 percent in the quarter and helped bring in almost $500 million for the year. Profit was also helped by lower advertising costs. Hasbro’s games unit had a 13 percent decline in sales, the fifth drop in six quarters, as customers bought fewer board games such as Trivial Pursuit.
“The quarter’s strong performance was primarily driven by lower overall operating costs and continued strong sales of Star Wars products,” J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. analyst Dean Gianoukos wrote in a report. Gianoukos is based in New York and rates Hasbro shares “neutral.”
You can read more at Bloomberg.com
This is indeed good news for the clouded future of Star Wars merchandise. Hopefully we can plan on Hasbro becoming more dependent on our collecting needs.

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: Vintage Rings
February 3, 2006 | 1:39 PM EST | Keri
Just about every girl wants a ring on their finger, well why not three rings instead of one, and how about some vintage Star Wars rings! Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlight focuses in on a boxed set of three vintage Star Wars character rings.
Weingeroff Enterprises produced a variety of Star Wars character themed jewelry in 1977, cashing in on the popularity of A New Hope. Among the necklaces, pins, and earrings were also sets of rings available which contained 3 different characters. The adjustable metal rings featured three dimensional images of Vader, X-Wing, R2-D2, C-3PO, Stormtrooper and Chewie. Today’s auction is for a set including Vader and the two droids. Look for these rings in the original hinged box with the earlier Star Wars Logo printed on the inside of the box lid, complete with the paper May the Force be with you insert at the bottom. If these rings were worn for any length of time, they usually show signs of the metal finish coming off the ring or scratching on the character’s face. Today’s auction is a wonderful complete and unused example and a nice affordable addition to any collection. Click on through to get these rings for your special Valentine!

The MUST HAVE Comics Companion
February 2, 2006 | 12:58 PM EST | Mark B
Arriving recently in my mailbox was my review copy of the new Dark Horse: Star Wars Comics Companion. I have long been a fan of Dark Horse Comics since I first saw they had acquired the rights to do Star Wars comics and they produced Dark Empire. While I love the comic books, I have to admit, I haven’t been able to read EVERY issue of every series. Let’s face it, I don’t have the time to read them all. But, what really upsets me about that is the fact that I do take the time to read all of the novels (eventually!). What I find is that there are references (either inside jokes, or direct references) to things that happens in the comic books. So, while I don’t have the time to read all of the comics, I WOULD like to know what has happened in all of them. Enter the new Comics Companion from Dark Horse. This is THE definitive guide to all comics Star Wars. Covering everything from the Old Republic (10,000 years before A New Hope) to the New Jedi Order times. Its is 130+ pages packed full of plot summaries and connections to other issues/novels from every comic that Dark Horse has published. Plus, the appendix lists all of the characters, places, etc and where to find them in the boook. In addition, it also covers the original Marvel Comics issues, Star Wars: Tales, and the Manga issues. I have to say, this is one that I definitely would have purchased, and at under $12 from Amazon – it is a TOTAL STEAL. Its officially released on the 15th of February, so if you need a day late present for the one you love (or if you just love yourself), get this one ordered today!

Revenge of Bounty Hunting: ESB Paint by Number
February 2, 2006 | 12:26 AM EST | Keri
I can remember I used to absolutely go crazy when my mom would let me pick out a paint by number kit at the toy store. Ok, first of all, I am a girl, and second of all, I have always loved to paint anything. Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlight on ESB Paint by Number kits brings brought back lots happy memories for me!
Produced by Craftmaster, which was a Kenner affliate, these wonderful Paint by Number kits gave kids a chance to be artistic without having to use the same old crayons. The Paint by Number kits consisted of a preprinted image on a hard type of cardboard, sort of a hard canvas type board, acrylic water-based paints, including awesome glow in the dark paint and a brush. The Star Wars themed Paint by Number kits appeared first in 1980 with Empire Strikes Back characters, later in 1983 for Return of the Jedi, and for the Ewoks cartoons in 1986. There were 4 different ESB character designs: Luke on Bespin, Han and Leia running on Hoth, Darth Vader and Yoda. Today’s auction is for 2 kits, Luke Bespin and Han with Leia. When looking to add these to your collection, search for the unopened boxes which are still sealed, unless you would like someone’s painted work to decorate your wall. Click on through to add this awesome craft set to your collection today at a great affordable price!

Bounty Hunt Wanted List Starting To Appear
February 1, 2006 | 10:22 PM EST | Bill
While Entertainment Earth broke the initial news of the “Bounty Hunt” figures almost a month ago with their disclaimer that Assortment may contain special chase variant “Bounty Hunt” figures. “Bounty Hunt” figures are not guaranteed to appear in all assortments, on assortment 4 revision 2, Toy Wiz has updated their order page with the names of some of the figures which will be associated with the Bounty Hunt here.
The current list is General Grevious, Obi-Wan, Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Commander Cody, Han Solo Carbonite, Darth Vader, AT-AT Driver, Boba Fett, and Snowtrooper.
Thanks to Yak Reader Torrynn who wrote in with the info and expressing concern about this being another round of reissues. We’ll look into it at Toy Fair with Hasbro and try to bring you more details.
If you have questions you’d like to see us ask Hasbro, Lego, Master Replicas, Sideshow, or other Star Wars licensees send them to us with TOYFAIR QUESTION in the subject line.
