Loyal Yakreader K Knight reports in with this interesting find in the popular magazine Architectural Digest:

“I’m sure someone out there will be interested in this. Architectural
Digest has an article on George Lucas and Skywalker Ranch. There are
several interior pictures including one that prominently displays some

Target Pricing Pt. 3

Following up on the continuing story regarding Target pricing of Basic Figures comes this report from YakReader Vader4Life:

“So, I have seen all the reports of Target bumping their prices of the basic lines from $4.99 to $5.99. The Target in Framingham, MA had tags for $4.99 but they were ringing up at $5.99.
Well, went there this morning and they had the first Jabba’s Wave there, and scanned the barcode to see if they had more out back (not like they would go get them, but that is a another story )
Well they scan now for $4.99 and I checked every figure, for ’03 and ’04 and they all scan now for $4.99
Maybe Target realized their mistake and corrected, since Walmart is $4.77 and TRU is $4.99.”

I took a trip to my local Target here in North Texas at lunchtime today and saw that the tags were still $4.99 and all the figures they had rang up the same price. There were no Jabba’s Palace wave, only a few Ach-Med’s, Imperial Dignataries and R-3PO on the pegs. Perhaps the price will remain at $4.99, but only time will tell.

Given the fact that I mainly collect the Bounty Hunters from the Star Wars series, I’m pretty excited about this one! Gentle Giant will be unveiling at Toy Fair this year their new Bust featuring one of the most popular Bounty Hunters from The Empire Strikes Back – Bossk! This will be a great one to go along with Zam Wessel, Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and Greedo (Greedo has just arrived in their warehouses and will be shipping to retailers this month). Look for Gentle Giant to announce several other mini-busts (and hopefully the Star Wars statue line!) at Toy Fair in NY this weekend.

We’ve updated the 2004 Product Guide with carded images of the Star Destroyer wave for your viewing pleasure. These are currently up on Ebay fromOverlord.

We have also updated the product guide with the latest items hitting stores to help with your toy hunt. Interestingly, we are within 2 waves of the figures (the Star Destroyer wave and Endor wave) which Hasbro has announced so far, but have yet to hit retail. Jim Ward (Lucasfilm Director of Marketing), according to an article in the New York Post in reference to the special edition DVDs:

“We realize there’s a lot of debate out there, but this is not a democracy. We love our fans, but this is about art and filmmaking. (George) has decided that the sole version he wants available is this one.

Personal commentary: This IS a democracy (democratic republic to be precise) and the copyright protections that protect his “art” exist at the pleasure of “We the People.” Given Napster and other recent challenges to the archaic system of copyright perhaps this is yet another reason things should change.

Target Pricing Increases and More

Many emails have poured in from readers regarding the latest price increase that has been seen at Targets all over the US from coast to coast. According to latest reports, its not only Target that has begun raising prices as YakReader Sean also points out that
“a Meijer here in Loveland, OH (Cincinnati) also has raised their prices to $5.99.”

YakReader Damian V sheds some light on the Target price increase disparities:

“The recent price increase has to do with old stock (Hoth Han (Brown
Coat), SnowTrooper, Boba Fett POC, Anakin Skywalker (Secret Cememony),Luke & Vader arriving to stores with an old sku (ending in
326) from last year that was discontinued (since it was tied to ALL
Collection 2 based figures ) to a new sku (1014) with the higher price.

The current toy department sku ending in 758 has the $4.99 price tags
for the R3p0, Bar2-D2, Hoth Luke & Hoth Trooper, R1-G4.”

These are interesting developments, and certainly not the first time we have seen a price increase for the basic figures.

Official Release Date For The DVD Trilogy!

It’s the big DVD announcement you’ve all been waiting for: Lucasfilm
and Twentieth Century Fox have announced the DVD Release for Star Wars Trilogy DVD on September 21st. This special 4 disc box set will include the three ‘original’ Star Wars movies (Star Wars IV: A New Hope, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi) presented in THX Anamorphic Widescreen and Dolby Digital-EX. Each film will be released in the ‘Special Edition’ version (including the changes made to the films for their theatrical re-release in 1997) and feature audio commentary by George Lucas and select members of the cast and crew. In addition to the three features the box set will also feature a fourth disc including making-of documentaries and features for the 3 films as well as a 2 hour documentary including never-before-seen footage. There will NOT be an option to view the films in their original theatrical version and the films will not be sold individually. Exact pricing for the set, specific disc extras and an official pre-order date to be announced in the weeks ahead.

I was in my local Fred Meyer store this morning buying groceries and decided to wander through the toy aisles, when I discovered they were having sales of 50% off the lowest clearance prices. I found the pegs full of Star Wars figures for only $2 after the 50% off (mainly army builders and older figures), but the best clearance was over in the Lego aisle. Nearly all of the Star Wars (and some Harry Potter) sets were on clearance. I hooked myself up with a brand new AT-TE from Attack of the Clones for under $30.00

Jedi Master Points Auctions – Part 2

People amaze me these days. When you can justify the Jedi Master Points Auction on the fact that you had a successful auction win, then the auction as a whole was a good thing is an over-simplification of the auction Hasbro designed. The auction as a whole was a FAILURE. The biggest reason was ACCOUNTABILITY. How many people bid on items, only to be outbid by someone who probably did not have the points they said they had? You either moved on and settled for an item that was your second choice or gave up entirely because of no ACCOUNTABILITY. Accountability leads to fairness.

With that being said, I think Hasbro could have avoided this problem if they had gone through with the idea they tossed around back at San Diego Con 2003 of a council or committee of fan collectors of Star Wars to work with them. I guess corporations will never open their eyes and see there are people outside of their companies that know their products passionately, probably more so than some Harvard Business Analyst that came up with this adept Auction Idea. You can use these people to your advantage and the best part is, most will volunteer ideas for FREE. It does not take a scholar to realize that times are changing, the market is changing, and businesses need to rise above old business models and forge new frontiers.

New Hasbro Survey and New ROTJ Jabba

Today I received a new Hasbro Survey. Most of the questions revolved around the Jedi Points Auctions, the worst redemption program EVER! They did ask at one point however to rank the #1 and #2 programs they could offer in the future. Among the choices I would consider worthy were Exclusives and a Rewards Program. The other options really offer no one any value. They even had the audacity to include the option “Auctions where I can bid points I earn by purchasing STAR WARS figures and accessories”.

On another note, picked up the new Jabba. On comparison between him and Jabba Glob, it appears to be the same mold with slight modifications… mostly to the head, making his eyes bigger and mouth larger for the obvious tongue affect. I like him, but I think he could have been better if they started from scratch. I’ll take him for now.

Looks like all sorts of new items are hitting stores with some regularity in certain areas. I must say that my luck in finding new items has been much better than average, so perhaps it is time for a figure run everybody!

I have been blessed to have my own cargo hold of cool “STAR WARS” stuff that I have accumulated since the summer of ’77. There have been many incredible items over the years- the Kenner/Hasbro line, Icons and Masters Replicas lightsabers, the Attakus Darth Vader, and of course, Kelloggs “C-3PO’s” cereal. My sentimental favorite might have to be the very first “STAR WARS” collectible I ever bought–and it was a measley fifty cents! It was the “STAR WARS” movie program that I purchased at the legendary Glenwood Theater in Overland Park, Kansas in May 1977. The Glenwood was showing “STAR WARS” in glorious 70mm Dolby Stereo and I had never seen anything like it. I was twelve at the time, and couldn’t resist taking home a souvenir of the greatest movie I had ever seen (or would ever see).
It was full of cool photos and the amazing Tom Jung cover artwork. It’s still one of my most prized collectibles–and my oldest.

In a stroke of luck, I myself was able to pick up the New Luke Jedi, R2 Sail Barge, Rappertunie, J’Quille and Lando Skiff (no deluxe Jabba) at a heavily scalped Wal-Mart here in North Texas this morning. I also just picked up the 12″ Lando Skiff Doll recently after months of searching. (yes my area is that far behind on 12″ waves)

I realize not everyone is seeing these newest figures, and with some areas it is hit and miss, with miss being the norm. The only advice I can give is try to remain positive and patient and do not give into frustration and rumors. Good Luck and Happy Hunting everyone!

Wal-Mart The Finale!

The Final word on the Wal-Mart set-ups or lack there of from an anonymous employee of the store itself:

as far as the star wars section, each wal-mart in differnet regions will get different sections based on the star wars product sold. so if the store in your area did not do so well selling star wars product then there section got smaller to only 3 pegs of figures and a section for the lightsabers. now on the other side of the fence if your store in your area did well then your star wars section would have 6 to 8 pegs for figures ,section for unleased, section for sabers and a section for the ultra wave. I have one more thing for you guys to if your store did not get the new sections you will still get the unleased and ultra waves but only a few cases to those stores, so meaning once they sell they sell and they wont get it back in till a new wave comes out….these would not be regular items. i hope this helps you guys out!

Wal-Mart Finds Pt. 2

As many readers have written in to me, not every Wal-Mart is resetting their shelves to include the Star Wars goodness that some readers’ stores have been lucky enough to acquire.

I would like to add that none of my local Wal-Marts are even getting in new figs, much less adding any extra space for Unleashed etc. The best suggestion I can offer is talking to your Wal-Mart manager, or avoid the process altogether and shop at a friendly online store as I personally have no control over the stocking or arrival of new figs at any store anywhere.

FAO MR Vader Sabers Update

Another bad sign was that my MC had a temp charge of only $17.73 (the chess set + s/h) not the $52.73 of my order.

I went to fao.com today to track my FX Saber order and was shocked to see that they had increased my order total to $139.95. I called their 800 number asking about the increase. I was told that I didn’t need to worry about it because my order was cancelled because the FX Sabers were never available in the first place. I smell something fishy here. I bet they realized their error on the pricing in the checkout process and are now cancelling all orders. If this shows up on their website again, they’re gonna have some explaining to do.”

New Wal-Mart Discoveries

just thought I’d let you know that my local Wal-Mart here in VA has just about finished its post-Christmas reset – and dear sweet mother it’s great news! They have added 2 pegs for basic figures (total of 8), there are now 3 pegs for ultra figures, and….THREE PEGS FOR UNLEASHED!!! But that’s not all! On the bottom shelf, below the pegs, there is space for 12″ figures! Last night I found the new Unleashed wave (Han, Yoda, Boba) and the new 12″ wave (Garindan, Obi-Wan, and Jawas). The Unleashed figs sell for $14.96 and the 12″ for $24.96. They’ve also kept space for the lightsabers, though now the electronic ones are lying down again (no vertical packaging) and the basic ones are all in a pile on the bottom shelf next to the 12″ guys. In addition to the expanded shelf space, they are also really stocking up – 2 cases of the Hoth wave and another case of the first Ultra wave.

Damon also notes extra space for LOTR figs, new Spawn Series 24 assortment, Second Matrix assortment and some Spiderman 2 figs as well. Get thee to a local Wal-Mart pronto for a figure run this weekend!

Bounty Hunting Today: Theatrical Standees

Going to the movies is a great experience, and the theater lobbies are no exception to that. The lobbies are filled with eye candy from floor to ceiling promoting all of the films soon to be released.

Besides posters, there are many different types of advertising from theaters that can be collected today. Although most items are supposed to be sent back to the company from which the theater “rents” the material, often items slip through the cracks and make it out onto the secondary market.

Today’s featured auction is for a standee, made of heavy cardboard, large and colorful displaying the artwork for Empire Strikes Back. These standees are difficult to come by, due to their imposing size, as well as the fact that not all theaters had them, unlike posters. Standees look great in any room and complement a collection very well.

While this subject has been denied by Lucas MANY times, occassionally a rumor hits the internet about a Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. As most of you know, George Lucas originally intended Star Wars to be a Trilogy of Trilogies (that’s right, 9 movies). But as he has gotten up in years, and realized how much of his life has been spent on these 6 movies, he supposedly has scrapped movies 7, 8 and 9. However, as reported on TheForce.net a British Magazine, Hotdog, has information that Peter Mayhew’s (Chewbacca) contract not only includes Episode III, but that he is also required to be in 7, 8, and 9. Take it with a grain of salt, but we can always hope!

What’s Next From Hasbro

The latest things to surface on potential Hasbro products for this year come to us from Jimmy over at The Trade Federation. We already know that TRU will have a series of exclusive Screen Scenes based on the Jedi Council, however the buzz is that Target may be getting an exclusive scene as well (no word yet on which scene or figures). He also reports that the next figures up for the Unleashed line may include Aayla Secura, Tusken Raider, and Bossk, with Aayla’s name surfacing very frequently.

It looks like a great year.

Wednesday’s Falcon Favorite

The very First Falcon Favorite comes courtesy of YakReader Adam Garrett, and provides a story many of us can relate to.

My favorite item in my entire collection is my Emperor’s Royal Guard (or the Red Guard as we called it) from the vintage ROTJ line. Here’s the story as to why I love this figure so much:

When I was 3, growing up in Toronto, Canada, we went to see the original showing of ROTJ in the theatre. This was a big deal for me, going downtown and riding on the subway. We got to the movie, me with my red guard clenched in my hand, and sat down to see the show. During the climactic Death Star father/son duel, my dad got paged and we had to leave the theatre – I watched the end of the film peeking through the crack in the theatre door while my dad was on the phone. On the ride home, disappointed from missing the end, I loosened my grip on my toy and at a busy stop exchange got bumped and dropped my figure to his horrible demise on the subway tracks. My parents never replaced him. As soon as I took up collecting again, he was the first thing I bought – to remind me of my earliest childhood memory and a simpler time.

I want to thank everyone for their responses so far, and I ask everyone to be patient as I WILL post each story one at a time on Wednesday and Sunday every week.

A New Feature – Falcon Favorite!

Han Solo happens to be my favorite character in the Holy Trilogy, and of course as we all know, Han’s favorite item was the Falcon herself, which is what this new feature is based upon.

In every collection, there is ONE favorite item, whether based on rarity, childhood memories, or straight out one of a kind coolness…everyone has ONE favorite that shines above all other items in their collection. This whole feature is about ONE Item, not the amount of items that make up your collection, not a wall of figures, not shelves of toys…ONE ITEM!

So Here are the Rules:
1. If you would like your favorite item from your collection featured here with a brief description of why it is your favorite then please email me here. You may send a photo, but are not obligated to send one if you don’t have a camera.

Figures Go Even Lower at Target

Looks like Target is dropping their clearance prices even further. In the North Dallas area Targets, prices have been reduced to $1.18! Clone Troopers with Speeder Bikes were also found for $2.50. Star Wars.com has some great new info on the upcoming online multiplayer game called Star Wars: Battlefront. The game will be available for PC, X-Box, and Playstation 2. Unlike the current online Star Wars game, this one will also have single player modes (but will be coolest when you are playing with a group of your friends – or enemies!). Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage Palitoy Landspeeder

As many collectors know, the Kenner division in the UK was known as Palitoy. For the completist searching for every Palitoy vehicle, or those simply wishing for an interesting variaiton on a classic vehicle need not look any further than the auction featured today.

The Landspeeder was among the first Kenner vehicles introduced in 1978 after the popularity of the original movie. The Landspeeder offered a simplistic design, molded in orange plastic with stickers to apply inside the cockpit and under the hood. Luke and Obi-Wan could sit in front, with the droids in the rear. The Landspeeder could appear to hover as in the film, courtesy of 3 wheels which would also allow it to “float” over the desert to the Mos Eisley Cantina playset across the room. The interesting thing about the Palitoy version is the vehicle itself, and the photo on the box being different from the US Version. UPDATE: YakReader Todd points out also that the Palitoy Landspeeder has no button on the front to open the hood, therefore the hood does not open at all, as the US Version has the opening hood. So, the Palitoy version is a true variant.

Bounty Hunting Today: Commerative Jackets

The two jackets featured in Ebay auctions that I have chosen today are not only very warm but also very stylish and collectible.

The jackets both commemerate milestones in the history of the Star Wars Films, one the 20th Anniversary of A New Hope, the other The Release of the Special Edition. One of the things common to both jackets is the year commemerated is the same: 1997. Both jackets are made in the High School/Letterman style, in other words, the body of the jacket is wool with embroidery on the front and rear, while the sleeves are made of leather and both are bargain priced. The Special Edition Jacket has a large Vader Helmet on the back, which is very cool. The 20th Anniversary jacket has the simple Logo in gold with the large Rebel symbol behind it.

These jackets will definetely keep out the cold air of the winter while keeping you in Star Wars style!

The End of Star Wars Legos?

This Article at Yahoo! News talks about the HORRIBLE year Lego had in 2003. Two of their top executives were fired over the results – and one of them was responsible for the movie tie-in lines (Harry Potter and Star Wars). The article also mentions that while these lines have increased sales, they have not earned that high of a margin for Lego due to the increased cost of manufacturing. The story eludes seems to say that these tie-in lines will be coming to an end while Lego will be focusing on its core business of making regular building blocks.

Produced around the time of A New Hope’s Original release back in ’77 these unliscened spoons provide a unique conversation piece to a collection. While surfing Ebay on a daily basis, sometimes we are lucky enough to run across an elusive item that a seller may not realize as something hard to find. Other times, items may be listed incorrectly. The happy result is a bargain find delighting any collector.

Today’s feature is not really a rarity, but if it is a piece you have been searching for to complete a display then it is a real find indeed! The featured auction below is for the simple, yet wonderful cardboard backdrop from the 1980 Kenner ESB Sears Cloud City Playset. Though not as detailed as any backdrop produced today, it still looks great in its familiar vintage surroundings.

Target Clearances Pt. 2

I went to my local Super Target here in Dallas, TX and was able to pick up a 12″ Leia Speederbike for $12.48 as well. Also on clearances were some selected AOTC figures for $2.38, Lego Hailfire Droid for $24.44, Lego AT-AT for $49.99, 1st Series Lego Mini Ships for $1.48, and Lego Jabba’s Prize for $3.42. This was all found down multiple clearance aisles at the beginning of the toy aisles. Please keep in mind not all Targets are clearancing this low, my fiance went to a Target located in Carrollton this morning where the 12″ Leia was still ringing up $49.99. However, with some persistence I am sure the clearance bargains will be found throughout the US.

UPDATE: More Reports are coming in from Chino Hills, San Bernadino and Sacramento, CA of the $12.84 12″ Leia Speederbike Clearance Madness! I would suggest making a toy run to your local Target ASAP…these Leia’s are flying out the doors quick!

We are getting quite a few emails about Target clearances and the great finds people are getting – from Hasbro Figures to Legos. Keep checking your Target stores for some great after-holiday sales! Our latest report comes from NY where 12″ Leia with Speederbikes have been found for $12.48!

**Update** I am hearing that quite a few people are snagging the $12.48 Leia with Speederbike including the Plano, TX Target (thanks Jeremy), and I picked one up this morning at the Eagle, ID store where they probably had a dozen of them left. The clearances are not the same at every store – the store I went to had 8 of the Lego AT-AT and they were still coming up at $99.99 (not the $49.99 that we have been hearing people get them at).

As a collector, you thought you had it all…the lunchboxes, the prop replicas, the statues, the coins, the steins, the underoos, and the suncatchers, just to name a few items. The focus of today’s article proves just how far reaching the Star Wars films have gone in terms of items produced.

Today’s auction brings a liscened Bone China thimble (yes like the ones used for sewing) with the Episode I Logo handpainted on it. This is more of a collectible thimble, and one you would not want to use while sewing your Jedi Robes. The thimble was made in England, specifically in Stoke-On-Trent. I know there were many more designs available of characters, but I am unsure of how many were exactly produced.

This is a great piece for the collector who seemingly has everything and a great way to kick off the Star Wars thimble portion of your collection!

Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage Burger King Premiums Pt. 2

Following the theme of yesterday’s auctions, I focus again on Burger King sponsored premiums. Today’s focus will be on one of my personal favorite items, the ESB Super Scene Collection Book.

I can remember going down the street to Burger King, begging for an ESB Luke glass, (which my father kindly bought for me!) and getting as a bonus the Super Scene Collection Book and one set of stickers. I was thrilled beyond belief and I remember looking at that album while listening to my ESB Story LP Record, thinking of all the cool scenes in the movie. I never completed the album, and eventually through moves it was thrown away. I was able to purchase the entire set of stickers and the album shortly after I began collecting over 15 years ago and it was really great to see an old friend again and relive those memories.

This is a really cool item to add to your food premiums collection that won’t break the bank either!

Classic Trilolgy on DVD will be Extra Special Editions

Someone has finally found Lucas describing this fall’s release of the Classic Trilogy on DVD. The Force.net has posted a report that Lucas says he will finally be able to release the Classic Trilogy as he wanted released originally when they come out on DVD. Target Exclusive Glass and Skirmish At Carkoon Pictures

We now know a lot more about some upcoming exclusives. First the Target glasses, so far the only figure/glass whose image has surfaced is Obi-Wan from A New Hope. Now, more images have surfaced, Luke in his snowspeeder flight suit with what appears to be a removable helmet for Empire, and slave Leia for Jedi. Darth Maul Tatooine, and Anakin hanger duel for The Phantom Menace and Clones respectively. On the Carkoon 4 pack, we get a reissue of the sail barge canon from the Deluxe Leia; Klaatu, Barada, and Nitko from the Skiff Guards Cinema Scene, and a revised Han Solo. Red ARC Trooper Variation

Variation hunters to your local stores! YakReader Damon reports and shares a photo of this variation amongst the Red ARC Troopers:

I just wanted to share what I believe to be ANOTHER new variation for the ARC Trooper. I went to Wal-Mart as usual looking for new figures and was pleased to find 3 new cases. After having an employee open them, I was disappointed to see that they were all wave 1 Clone Wars figures, but was pleased to see the new red ARC Trooper. As I was looking through the red ARC’s trying to find the best paint job, I noticed a difference in the figures from one of the cases. Two of the cases had what I think is the regular version of the figure with a dark grey/black skirt and dark grey pouches. The skirt and pouches are also shiny. However, the third case had a light blue/grey skirt and lighter grey front pouches – the same coloring as the first version ARC Trooper with blue armor. These guys have a matte skirt and pouches, again like the orginal blue ARC. What I was most surprised by is that all of the figures, no matter the variation, have the same date stamp: 32651. Weird stuff, huh?

These pictures show the color differences much better than I thought they would. They’re not true side-by-side shots, each was photographed separately, but I think you can see pretty clearly the differences.

There are many choices as far as the different Star Wars ormanents produced, ranging from the Hallmark ornaments to today’s feature the hand blown glass ornaments designed by Christopher Radko.

Blown glass ornaments have been made in one form or another primarily in Germany and eastern Europe since the 1800s. Christopher Radko sells ornaments made from “Old World” designs and original molds to be bought at the retail level in today’s marketplace. Radko has also produced a rather impressive line of Star Wars ornaments, including Yoda, Chewie, Vader, Stormtrooper, C-3PO, Ewoks, Vader and Luke dueling.

The ornaments were not cheap when they originally sold, but thanks to the secondary market of Ebay, the ornaments can be found at bargain prices. Click on through to the links below to add to your Star Wars tree decorations!

Gentle Giant, the maker of these really cool RealScan busts, has some announcements that have come up the past couple of days. You can read all about the details over at their website. But, to give you a brief rundown – new busts are officially announced: Clone Trooper Sergeant which will be an online exclusive in the US through a yet to be named retailer, Clone Trooper Pilotwhich will be a Wizard World LA exclusive. The coolest part of their news is the new line of Star Wars Statues! The first is going to be a 15″ Chewbacca which will be an exclusive to Gentle Giant’s Collectors Club (which I have not yet figured out how to join! I’ve checked a couple of the boxes from previous busts and there is no information about this club, and I can’t find any info on their website – more details as I find out!).

***Update – I have received more details from Gentle Giant on the “Collectors Club”. In order to join, all you have to do is join their mailing list. And, the 12″ Statues WILL NOT be exclusive to members. (My guess is that they will be available through Dark Horse Comics like the other Gentle Giant Busts – again, more info when available).

In the ongoing discussion regarding the new SA (Super Articulated) Clonetrooper, YakReader Oliver writes in with a new discovery as well as a picture:

I just wanted to point out that the new shirtless Kit Fisto has the
EXACT same ankle articulation as the Clone Trooper.

The new Kit Fisto has footpegs, so for whatever reason Hasbro has simply not put them on the new SA Clonetrooper. Perhaps, they may change this in the future, but at this time, all SA Clonetroopers have no foot pegs.

Star Wars board games have been produced since the initial film’s release in 1977 and are continually being made for the new prequels today. Of the many board games with characters from the films, I am spotlighting auctions for Star Wars Chess Sets today.

Chess is a game of strategy and thought, one that a person may play for a lifetime. Though some people do not know how to play chess, they may be inspired to learn quickly if the pieces are familiar Star Wars creatures, Jedi and villians. With the latest release of the Cartoon Network animated series of the Clone Wars, I was reminded of the first animated Star Wars series called Droids. First premeired in 1985, the series told of the adventures of 3PO and R2 before they came into Master Luke’s service. Of course, this was all before the backstory that is being told in the prequels.

The Droids cartoon series spawned quite a bit of merchandising material, especially a large amount overseas. Here in the US, Kenner produced a small line of figures with an animation style 3PO and R2, as well as new characters and old ones such as Boba Fett and A-Wing Pilot. Also produced were some vehicles and a lightsaber that resembled Luke’s from ROTJ.

If you wish to own however a piece of the series itself, you may do so with an animation cel, captured as one frame in an episode. The cels are no more than acetate which are painted on from behind with a background placed behind them. Most cels were thrown away or destroyed, but some survived or were sold by the studio itself. Actual production cels are difficult to find, not the mass produced limited seri-cels which are less expensive.

Today’s auction features a production cel of the main characters, the droids themselves, framed with COA and original background. This would be a wonderful gift for the holidays for the Star Wars collector in your life.

Clonetrooper Foot Pegs Pt. 2

There have been many developments in the unfolding information regarding the new Super Articulated Clonetrooper. There are indeed two packaging poses to choose from, if you wish to keep your figure sealed in his plastic grave.

Regarding the lack of foot pegs, YakReader Adam offers this insight:

If you look on the back of the heel of the new clone trooper figure, you’ll see that the ankle has a large round joint inside of the foot. There aren’t peg holes on the feet because there isn’t room. The peg hole couldn’t possibly be deep enough as the tolerances allow.
The engineering on the jointed ankles actually works really well. They have a good range of motion and are stiff enough to hold their
position. Not having peg holes is a worthy sacrifice. You can
position the foot and stand the figure any way you like, so the peg holes aren’t necessary anyway.

Although not exactly Star Wars related, the new Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series premieres tonight on the Sci-Fi channel at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central time. Looks to be pretty cool, especially if you loved the original series with its dazzling special effects designed by John Dykstra who worked on A New Hope.

Super Articulated Clonetrooper Error?

I just found the Super articulated Clone Trooper.The thing I noticed is that Target(which is where I found them).I bought 3 of the clones and noticed that there is one packaged in a crouched position and one standing.

YakReader moonbase7 writes in with a possible error/variation on the brand new super posable Clonetrooper ( which I have yet to see in stores ) Time will tell whether this is a variation/error or something that will be changed quickly by Hasbro.

well, it looks as though we have yet another error on the clone troopers the new super posable clones have no peg holes on the feet i found five today like that.
you would think they need the pegs as all the figures do

Although the Clone Wars Micro-series is not airing any new episodes on Cartoon Network, the well-animated and well-written cartoon has so far spawned very few promotional items. Made of a thin plastic, with strong adhesive on the back, shelf talkers were glued to the edge of a shelf where the advertised toys were sold. Bounty Hunting Today: ROTJ Mock-up Card

Following the theme of prototypes for the week, I have found yet another vintage treasure while surfing good ol’ Ebay.

For all of you that love the vintage Kenner line, today’s auction is something that doesn’t come up for sale too often. Like all other toy companies, past and present, Kenner prepared figures onto proof cards with hand cut bubbles to display new packaging at shows like Toy Fair, or at internal meetings. The cards have sqaured edges, the holes are usually unpunched and the figure is held onto the card by a hand cut and hand glued plastic bubble. The finished product is then called a Mock-Up. Mock-ups are rather difficult to come by as most were either thrown away (GASP!) or were kept by Kenner employees.

If you are looking for something to add to your Kenner figure collection, then this ROTJ mock-up of a Hoth Rebel Commander is just what you have been searching for!

Jedi Knights 3 Pack Variation

UPDATE: The 3 Pack that YakReader Charlie found was the variation with no Clonetrooper side art. However, these additional pictures illustrate the other differences besides the addition of side art found on later packaging.

I found a Clone Wars Jedi Knight 3 pack today and was happy to find it in good shape so I could replace the one that I currently have, and when I was comparing the two of them, I started to notice differences. I have included 3 pictures of the differences. The first is that they removed the small parts warning in the upper right corner. The small print on the back is different as well, and is completely rearranged. Last, and in this case probably least, the distribution info and ink color on the bottom of the bubble are different as well. The one starts out “Distributed in the United Kingdom. . .” and the other starts out “Please keep company details. . .” I just thought I would share this variation.

Easily one of the favorite human characters in the trilogy, the Corellian smuggler, gambler, and scoundrel who captured a Princess’ heart has been immortalized into small and large plastic action figures since the 1978. When Kenner reintroduced a line of Star Wars toys in 1995, they again produced 12″ figures that were more movie realistic, posable and looked pretty cool as well.

Bounty Hunting Today: POTF Coin Prototypes

In 1984, interest in the line of Star Wars toys was beginning to go downhill. Kenner was still producing figures and playsets and came up with new packaging as well as new figures from the entire trilogy which was called The Power of the Force. Each figure came with a coin and proofs-of-purchase could be sent away to receive special mail-away coins. At the time, the figures didn’t sell that well, and the coin promotion left many consumers frustrated that were trying to get a complete set of coins, unless they contacted Kenner directly and were one of the lucky few able to purchase an entire set of coins.

The POTF coins are widely collected today and the art looks great next to the figure itself. The coins are split into Catagories, as to the level of difficulty obtaining them from Cat I (easiest) to Cat V (most difficult & expensive). The auctions I have featured today are prototypes of the POTF Coins. If you have ever spent anytime at all drooling over the rarities pictured atwww.toysrugus.com then you know exactly what i am talking about – Hardcopy coins. Hardcopy coins were made of each coin, with the art of the character sculpted into a resin material to be duplicated onto the small aluminum coins. These are extremely hard to find, and it is a real treat to see one offered for sale on Ebay at this time. The other prototype coin featured today is a coin with art only on the front, with nothing on the back. I personally have never seen a prototype like this before, but it appears to be genuine.

Modeled after the lightsaber used in The Phantom Menace that was cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi. This replica is half of Maul’s saber with a scorched end, and ruby red crystals and wiring that we imagine could be inside a “real” lightsaber. Comes with display case and numbered plaque. While the release doesn’t mention the edition number, we initially reported that there are only going to be 750 of these made. Hallmark started producing Star Wars ornaments in 1997, beginning with small miniature vehicles as well as a numbered set of classic characters. More Enhancements & Changes to the Original Trilogy?

Courtesy of theforce.net, comes this report on added footage and more digital enhancements to the Original Trilogy coming soon to DVD from The Digital Bits rumor mill.

We’ve heard from a number of interesting (and we believe reliable) inside sources that Lucasfilm is currently making major new changes to the original Star Wars films – the kind of changes he began a few years ago with the theatrical “Special Edition” releases. These changes include new special effects, revised and updated shots and scenes, and new footage shot with actors Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) that would flesh out moments with their characters in the original films. For example, an aged and scarred Hayden now appears as Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke removes Vader’s helmet. Among the other changes reportedly being made are the restoration of the original “Han shoots first” moment from Star Wars and a revamped lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader.

We did already hear reports of the Obi-Wan/Vader lightsaber duel being digitally cleaned up from those who were saw the film at the LA showing a few months back, so it seems these rumors may have some credibilty to them. Perhaps Mr. Lucas has seen the error of his ways and will reinstate the Han shoots first moment, and keep the integrity of the film in place while adding and enhancing, making the entire 6 films one continuous story.

Clone Wars Ep. 1 -10 Marathon Reminder Update

If you have missed any episodes of the most excellent Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network, watch Friday, November 21 to see all ten episodes beginning at 7:30 p.m. (e/p)!

UPDATE: The 10 episodes will not be shown back to back. They
are airing Ep. 1 – 5 at 7:30pm and Ep. 6 – 10 at
9:30pm (e/p) with 2 short breaks in each half. Thanks to YakReader Rod for the Update!

We just have to wait until the spring to see the remaining 10 episodes, but with such high quality storytelling told in a very compressed time of 3 minutes, these episodes are definetly worth the wait! Now, if only Episode III will be half as good as the micro series…then we have something to really look forward to!

YakReader Derek points out that in the last paragraph after the preview of the new article on Dodonna, Gold Leader, Tie Pilot, and
Antilles it says:

“Come back soon for previews of a Star Destroyer assortment including
Admiral Ozzel, Dengar and Bossk.”

Perhaps these are more new figures slated for us to feast upon very soon…I would venture to guess that Dengar and Bossk are newly resculpted, but at least Ozzel is a character we have yet to see.

LEGO 2004

LEGO set 4500: Although this is a remake, this is definately worth the $19.99.
The set includes one Snowspeeder, one Laser Canon, and three figures. The snowspeeder is modeled in white this time, compared to the original gray. Also included on this model is the tow rope. The wings also have more definition.

LEGO set 4501: This set is not what I expected. First we have the remake of the landspeeder. While this is a very nice remake, I would guess if sold alone it would be a $10 set. Next is the Cantina, in a word NEAT! Nice setting, table and side bar, with an entrance door. Without the Dewback, I would venture by the pieces, probably a $7 set, add the Dewback, make it $10. The set does include five figures: Luke, Sandtrooper, Greedo, Ben, and Han Solo. I do not agree with the $30 price tag, LEGO overpriced this set.

Bounty Hunting Today: Star Wars 10 Years Items

In 1987, to commemerate the 10 year anniversary of A New Hope, a select few items were produced bearing a unique logo decalring the First Ten Years of Star Wars.

At that time, collecting Star Wars toys and other items was not the hobby it is today, with many rare items up for grabs at prices we all wish and dream about now. However, fans continued to collect what was available, no matter how small that selection seemed to be. Among the “new” items were 10 year hats, t-shirts, mugs, pennants, patches and notepads.

Today, the 10 Year items are becoming increasingly hard to find, and thus more expensive. Items can still be found at decent prices, but with more anniversaries of the film to come, bargains may be few and far between in years ahead. Holiday Yoda Arrives!

Delivered by UPS on Friday, the second Star Wars Holiday Edition features Yoda as Santa. The figure was well-packed and arrived in excellent condition. The edges of the card back were flat (no bends) and the bubble was perfect, no dents.

The reproduction card is inserted between two pieces of the backer card, and is easily removed (if you wish to do so) by slitting the tape on either side.

I was surprised by the detail the figure holds to the original art, right down to the ball and block in the snow and the toys in Yoda’s sack.

An excellent addition to any Star Wars collection and a great companion piece to last year’s edition with C-3PO and R2-D2.

Paper dolls have been enjoyed by children throughout the centuries, something that could easily be bought or even home made. In the 1930s – 1950s paper dolls resembling movie stars, and the golden epics they starred in were a staple of movie tie-in liscening. That liscening continues on to this day with the Star Wars Amidala paper dolls that were produced for Episode I and Episode II. These books are very inexpensive and provide something different for the collector looking for anything Star Wars.

Bounty Hunting Today: Dolls!

You read right, today’s focus will be on dolls! Although the word “doll” usually conjures images of a baby doll wetting itself, or Barbies, there are dolls in the Star Wars Universe of liscened products that are not revolting at all.

Of course there are the Kenner/Hasbro 12″ figures, which some people call dolls (i know i do), but since they are mainly targeted at boys, they are large action figures. I will not discuss the Kenner dolls at length today, but instead spotlight a modern cross-collectible Star Wars doll set made by Madame Alexander. Sold through FAO Schwarz in a small limited edition box set, these dolls in the childhood likeness of Luke, Leia and Han were on the expensive side when bought brand new. Though the set is popular with doll collectors as well as Star Wars collectors it can still be found on Ebay at a decent price, as seen in the auction link below.

This morning at a Toy’R’Us in Burbank, Ca (SoCal) they had the 4 new Lego Mini Sets (the Imperial Shuttle, the Sith Infiltrator, the AT-TE and the Star Destroyer, $6.99 each) plus they had the new Mos Eisley Cantina set ($29.99).
And if there’s anyone whose near a Lego Store, the one here in the Glendale Galleria (SoCal) has the Bespin ($99.99) and the UCS Snowspeeder sets (I think $129.99?). Thought you’d like to know seeing that I didn’t know some of these were coming out yet.

Looks like it may be time for a Lego/Toy run this weekend!

Bounty Hunting Today: Han Blaster Prop Replicas

In keeping with yesterday’s feature dealing with Master Replicas lightsabers, today’s focus is on blaster prop replicas, specifically the broom handled Mauser that Han shot first and effectively crisped Greedo in the Cantina.

Master Replicas was not the first company to produce Han Blasters. In the days before Ebay, before the Internet, when collectors bought and sold through magazines like Starlog there was Marco Enterprises out of Anaheim, California. Though Lucas tried to shut down the production of these very accurate and beautifully made blasters, which were sold with the holster and droid caller as a set, the attempt was unsuccessful. The company no longer produces these blasters, and most are in the hands of collectors today. It is a real treat indeed to have found this on my Ebay search.

I have auctions below for both the Marco Enterprises Han Blaster with leather holster and droid caller, as well as an auction for the current, but sold out Master Replicas Han Blaster with case. The Master Replicas Han Blaster is gorgeous and rare, due to the small number produced, as well as the large price tag when bought new at the retail level. Both of these blasters make great additions to any collection which includes props.

Bounty Hunting Today: Lightsaber Prop Replicas

Master Replicas has released many lightsaber prop replicas during a relatively short time. Collectors have been treated with high quality, movie accurate fully liscened props which can be displayed in boxes and/or cases.

The only complaint may be that the prices are too expensive for some collectors to afford. Never fear! Ebay is here with some great deals on these beautiful props. It seems to me, that more often than not, with modern collecting, there is a large feeding frenzy for the newest item, then interest drops to almost nonexistent. This is where patience plays a huge part in getting the items you dream of at bargain prices. Loyal readers, you will see me preach this many times, but the majority of my modern collection has either been bought at clearance prices or through Ebay dealer closeouts. This is the way I have been able to add these prop replicas to my collection without breaking the bank or going into debt.

As we are all watching the Clone Wars Cartoon, eagerly awaiting Ep. 3, these lightsabers are at all time low prices…though perhaps after Ep. 3 the bargains will not be this plentiful. If you are looking for great Christmas gifts or wish to treat yourself, check out the bargain prices these auctions have to offer today!

Bounty Hunting Today: 3-D Droideka Standup

There’s nothing like a lifesize standup of a favorite Star Wars character in 3-D form guarding your collection!
Most standups are 2-Dimensional and are merely large glossy printed paper pasted onto a thick cardboard backing. While these are cool in their own right, there is a 3-D option made of cardboard which can also be found at a very affordable price.

Released amongst the deluge of Ep.1 items at the retail level, DK Books produced lifesize 3-D droid standups. The characters were all droids and included R2, Battle Droid, and the Destroyer Droid (Droideka). The pricing point was around $100 at the time and was bought by some collectors, but was generally looked over for less expensive items or was not widely known due to little advertising.

Patience is truly a virtue when collecting modern items, and patience can pay off in great money savings. A great example of this is the auction for the Droideka Standup featured today at a price much lower than retail in an unopened box.

Bounty Hunting Today: Kubrick Toys

Kubrick Toys are neat and interesting additions to any collection, as they are highly detailed and as the slogan says “unbreakable”. Made in Japan for the Japanese Market, these are also great foreign collectible items.

The figures are Lego-esque upon a first glance, but with some further inspection it is easy to see that these are not Lego’s. The simple way in which the figures are presented is refreshing as well as entertaining.

Not collecting news but still cool news. Hey just wanted to post that i was watching the country music awards show on wednesday night and toby keith was performing his new song “I love this bar”. In the back ground on large screen was the mos eisley cantina bar scene from a new hope. It ran about a 30 second clip. It was the one that scans the bar and introduces you to all the aliens. I about fell out and laughed out loud. Neat stuff. My hats off to Toby Keith.

Holy Trilogy on DVD 9/2004

Well, we’ve finally heard from our sources on that meeting that Lucasfilm held yesterday at the Presidio with their retail partners… Star Wars: Episodes IV, V & VI are coming to DVD in September of 2004. The animated series of Clone Wars shorts appearing soon on the Cartoon Network will also be released on DVD, possibly before the end of this year. The teaser campaign for Episode III will begin in January of 2005, leading up to the May theatrical release. Finally… Episode III will hit DVD in November of 2005. …Keep in mind that none of this is official until Lucasfilm publicaly announces it… but this is certainly, at long last, the real deal.

Commentary: One wonders why Mr. Lucas changed his mind. He seemed dead set on a nice six-film boxed set. Perhaps, like the Indy Trilogy there aren’t enough extras to do a bonus disc per film. My bet is the Star Wars set will resemble the Indy set in many ways.

Aint It Cool News has the first report I have seen from the Marketing Summit held yesterday at Lucasfilms. Obviously they discussed the Clone Wars cartoon, but it looks like we may finally see the Originally Trilogy on DVD in Sept ’04!!! May ’05 will be Episode III in theaters, and then it will be on DVD around November of ’05. There are some spoilers mentioned, but I will say that Episode III footage was shown to those in attendance. The Aint It Cool News website seems to be running REALLY SLOW right now. Probably from all of us trying to read this story!

Bounty Hunting Today: Beer Steins

Steins have been around in one shape or form for many centuries, used as vessels to drink primarily beer and other beverages. The far reaching licsences of the Star Wars universe did indeed include the large ceramic mugs which were beautifully decorated with characters and themes from a galaxy far, far away.

The Steins featured in today’s auctions are limited and numbered editions with excellent craftsmanship. The first stein features the most feared and well-liked Bounty Hunter in the world, Boba Fett. The figural pewter detail, as well as art by Dave Dorman make this Stein a real treasure. The other auction I have chosen today is a bargain basement price for a Stein which displays the Special Edition artwork from A New Hope.

Please Excuse My Absence…

Although a bit off topic, yesterday, I had the treat of seeing The Matrix Revolutions as well as the remastered Alien: The Director’s Cut.
If you have not had a chance to see Alien yet, I highly recommend it, especially if you have a digital theater in your city. I saw it in digital format and I must say the picture quality never ceases to amaze me. The deleted scenes that were added back in to the film were wonderful to see where they belonged again. As a special bonus before the film, I was surprised and pleased to see that Alien Vs. Predator will finally be a movie on theaters on August 6th, 2004 – see ya’ll in line for that one!

Hasbro sent out Emails asking registered members (it appears of starwars.hasbro.com) to complete a survey about the Jedi Master Points Auctions. Questions range from auction closing values to auction item selections, and more. It looks like this program could continue beyond its current December end date.

UPDATE Jango Fett Blasters

I’m very happy to report, that the Neon Orange inserts in the
barrel of the blaster are REMOVABLE! Here is the low-down from
Dave Cordes who discovered how to remove it and was nice enough
to share detailed information with us:

“You will need a 1/16 alan wrench to remove the screw just under the barrel flash. Once removed, unscrew the flash by holding onto the opposite end of the barrel. Once the flash is removed, simply push the orange plug out. You can turn it over and reinsert it back into the flash with the silver side facing outward and the orange side facing inward or if you prefer to have a more realistic gun, leave the barrel hollow without reinserting the plug cap. Screw the flash back onto the barrel and reinsert the pin using the alan wrench. Voila!”

Thanks again to Dave. My thoughts on why they would not indicate
this to me on the phone are probably related in some legal manner that
would prevent them from sharing this information with patrons.

Bounty Hunting Today: Weechee Prototype

After being out of town all weekend as well as celebrating a special Halloween, I return to my normal Bounty Hunting duties and present you with a very interesting prototype auction today.

Other than pictures in Toy Fair Catalogs, opportunities for concrete prototypes do not often turn up everyday. Most internal copies stayed within the company or were destroyed, but some made it out with employees to find a very interested mass of collectors on Ebay today.

Near the end of the Kenner production line, in the seeming end of Star Wars figure popularity, the Droids and Ewoks lines of toys were all that was left after nearly a decade of unstoppable Kenner Star Wars toys sales. The Ewoks cartoon was short lived and the toy line was no exception. There were many plans to expand the line to include more figures, repackaged vehicles and plush Ewoks, all of which never made it to toy shelves.

Today’s auction is for an Ewoks internal painted hardcopy of the character Weechee. This is indeed a rare item, with only 10 or fewer known to be in existence, this is just the item for a collector looking for every item in the Kenner realm.

This nice pumpkin was created and sent in by YakReader Jason. It is an excellent intrepretation of our favorite and most powerful Jedi Master Yoda. The design has a beautiful life-like quality and really shines when lit up!

Lego On Sale

The new Toys R Us ad arrived in the Sunday Newspaper today and was almost completely void of Star Wars items. The one exception was in the Lego section. Both items advertised are available online and you can find them here:

Bounty Hunting Today: Darth Maul Costume!

Dressing as a Dark Lord of the Sith is always a great idea for Halloween, or any other time for that matter!
For today’s feature I have chosen the mysterious apprentice of Darth Sidious, Darth Maul. Maul was by far the coolest character of Ep. I, with his horns, rotten teeth, elaborate black and red tattoos, and of course his double-bladed lightsaber. Maul was a Zabrac of few words, but got his point across to Qui-Gon very effectively. Maul was no more than an instrument of evil, carrying out the carefully constructed plans of Sidious.
Today’s auctions are for a complete child’s Maul outfit, including mask, robes, and plastic lightsaber, and an Adult costume without the lightsaber. These are great costumes for anyone looking to dress as the sinister sith apprentice!

New Clone Wars Figures Found!

It appears that the newest wave of Clone Wars figures are hitting the shelves as we speak!

YakReader Niko sends in this breaking news on his latest figure run:

I picked up the single carded Durge at the Canton Walmart this afternoon, they also had Mace Windu, Asajj Ventress and Obiwan. I’m not positive, but it looks like Mace’s torso is originally from a Quigon figure, and Obiwan appears to be the Ep2 Obiwan with a few additions (cargo pockets, brown trim).
Anywho, they had 1 more Durge, 2 Asajj, a few of both Obiwan and Mace, as well as a couple of Anakin and 1 Yoda, without an Arc trooper to be seen.

Interesting observations on the Mace Windu and Obi-Wan…if anyone has any pics to substantiate please feel free to send them in so we may unravel this mystery.

Bounty Hunting Today: C-3PO Costume!

Friday is fast approaching, meaning Halloween is nearly upon us! I will have costume ideas here for the rest of the week, helping those who have yet to decide what to dress up as.
Today’s feature is for those who secretly wish to be the annoyingly charming ettiquette and protocol droid C-3PO. Little did we know that his maker was young Anakin, aka Vader…but this droid thanks to memory erasing was loyal to the Rebellion. Although we have seen 3PO in many incarnations: without coverings, with dirty mismatched coverings, without an arm, without a leg, blown to pieces, and how could we forget his days as an Ewok deity!!!
Though the costume below is made of soft fabric and not metal coverings, it is still a fun representation of our one and only Goldenrod.

Another Hint At The Saga On DVD

This month’s issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly reports in an aside that one of Lucas Arts latest releases sets up each level with DVD quality shots from the original trilogy! Rebelscum’s report on the article goes on to point out that the article says the this is the closest fans will get to the trilogy on DVD before NEXT FALL!

I told you back when I reported from San Diego at the
Comic-con that there were two production errors to keep
an eye out for, today I confirmed that one of the errors
has been fixed. The Clone Wars Yoda Lightsaber hilt is
showing up painted fully now. I found the corrected
version at Target. Note that the error hilt that is
painted half way was pretty abundant and was also the version
that showed up in the Value Pack if you are wondering. The
corrected version is shown on the bottom of the picture.
