Hasbro Launches Bladebuilders Line

badebuilders

Hasbro is making sure that by the time the new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in December, kids can have any lightsaber they can imagine.

Launching this fall, Star Wars Bladebuilders debuts a line of compatible hilts, connectors and various lightsaber materials that let children use the simple gadgets of their favorite Jedi masters and Sith lords or come up with the craziest, most complicated combination ever. The line will be on display at New York City’s Toy Fair Saturday through Tuesday

Toyguide Update: Wullffwarro and Wookiee Warrior (MS07)

TG_SWR_MS07_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with the latest entry in the Star Wars Rebels 3-3/4″ line. Next, we take a look at the Wullffwarro and Wookiee Warrior Mission Series set (MS07).

PROS: Honestly, I’m surprised Hasbro went the Wookiee route so soon in the line versus releasing Hera or Sabine upon the initial launch of the line. Alas, the result is a nice set of figures that can serve as diorama filler in displays or customizing fodder. The sculpt and paint is great on these samples as the eyes are dead on as is the mouth – something from which the Chewbacca Mission Series suffered.

CONS: Despite being relatively faithful to the design in the show, there is something that feels “off” about them – especially Wullffwarro. I think it is the stubby legs that convey more of a primate or sasquatch vibe than a Wookiee. No weapons??? Even a simple stormtrooper blaster would have been nice. Sadly, I think these may pegwarm once more stores get their allotment. Like most Wookiee figures, articulation is an issue (even more here considering the 5 POA style) as the head is virtually immovable with only the slightest bit of swivel possible.

Furby + Star Wars = Furbacca

Furbacca2

Mashable.com has posted an article revealed a mashup between one of Hasbro’s popular products, Furby, with Star Wars. The Result? Furbacca the Furby of course.

Like other Furbies in the lineup, owners can virtually feed, bathe and play games with him through the accompanying iOS or Android app. For example, if you give tell the app to give Furbacca a shower, he’ll make cute little noises as though he’s getting clean.

He’s responsive, too. There are sensors on his head, under his stomach, mouth and tail, so if you give him a little scratch between the ears, he’ll love you even more. If you pull his tail, he gets cranky — you can see the anger building in his LCD eyes. Depending on his mood, Furbacca’s eyes can populate with pictures of X-Wing Fighters and Imperial Star Destroyers.

Available Fall 2015; $79.95 MSRP

UPDATE: New 6″ Black Series Samples Hit eBay

VK_TBS_6inch_feb

Prolific eBay seller VipersKingdom has listed auctions for several upcoming 6″ Black Series figures. Samples include Han Solo (Hoth Gear) with Tauntaun, Emperor Palpatine, Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper Disguise) and Clone Trooper Captain.

As with many early samples, final product may vary slightly from the images shown. Click on through to check out the images or visit head to the ViperKingdom store page.

UPDATE: When you check out the images, be sure to examine Luke’s belt. It looks to be retooled for a comlink on the left side, and on the back, a grappling hook is sculpt there. Could this indicate a future release of a “Farm Boy” Luke with stormtrooper belt?

Toyguide Update: Sabine Wren and Stormtrooper (MS08)

TG_MS08_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume with the latest entry in the Star Wars Rebels 3-3/4″ line. Next, we take a look at the Sabine Wren and Stormtrooper Mission Series set (MS08).

PROS: Finally! We are one step closer to getting the entire crew of the Ghost and our intrepid rebel heroes. This set features the debut of fan favorite Sabine in her custom Mandalorian armor. Despite not having a removable helmet, the aesthetic of the figure is spot on. The sculpt of the figure has a certain amount of attitude with what looks like slightly cocked hips. Sabine also benefits from functional holsters to stow her twin blasters. The Stormtroper is a carry forward from previous releases with some variance in deco quality in the various sample I’ve seen, but having more “bucket heads” is always welcome.

CONS: The biggest con (other than less than stellar availability right now) is the fact that Sabine doesn’t have a removable helmet. They gave one to Erza – why not her? Hopefully Hasbro can revisit this figure soon with that feature. Yeah, yeah, articulation is limiting but that shouldn’t dissuade you from adding her to your collection. Finally, her blasters are very tiny so if the intent is to let kids (boys and girls) play with her, might want to keep an eye on those accessories.
