Hasbro Reverses Course on PFP – Window to Return to TBS

Hasbro has issued a statement today that windowed packaging will be return to the Black Series lines (and others) later this year. Thanks to Bantha Skull for the alert.

We wanted to share an update on packaging for Hasbro’s 6-inch-scale figures. Based on your feedback, we will be re-introducing windows and blisters to our 6-inch fan figures beginning later this year, into 2024 for select products across our portfolio of brands, including, G.I. Joe Classified, Power Rangers Lightning Collection, Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends. This will eventually expand to all new 6-inch figure releases.

The new windows and blisters will be made from bio PET or recycled PET helping us achieve our priority of meeting our fans’ expectations for extraordinary packaging and superior design while still developing packaging that minimizes waste and the use of virgin plastic.

Thank you again for being one of our biggest fans and for your continued support of Hasbro.

The Problem with PFP: Pinless-Free Photography

Look Ma, no pins!

At the risk of sounding like a whiner/complainer to some readers, I thought I’d bring attention to another issue with Plastic-Free Packaging (PFP): the apparent retouching of images to “fluff up” the asethetic of products insofar as to change the appearance of how the product is constructed.

The reveal yesterday of the Din Djarin (Morak) figure shone a light on this as the packaging clearly shows pinless construction of the knee joints, but as we know from the Migs Mayfeld (Morak) body on which this is based, the figure features fully visible holes/pins on the inner and outer sides of each knee joint.

Yes, we’ve all seen product disclaimers stating “product shown in fantasy situations”, “product does not fly” or “some poses may require additional support” but do we as consumers really need to be concerned if the picture matches the product in final form in terms of sculpt?

Maybe PFP should stand for “Pinless-Free Photography” in this case if truth in advertising is to be upheld.

Thanks to IG follower kandosii_ for the heads up.

Amazon Exclusive Black Series Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano & Grogu Set

Amazon is now taking preorders for the exclusive Black Series Mandalorian/Ahsoka Tano/Grogu Set revealed today. This set feature tweaked versions of existing figures to incorporate new deco (Mando) and new accessories (beskar spear, cloak for Ahsoka) and an updated Grogu — all within new Plastic-Free Packaging (PFP). The price $66.99 with an expected release date of Spring 2023, though it may be much sooner as I already see record of it arriving in the U.S.
