The Realm Recap is back after the Memorial Day Weekend bring and in our absence, there were plenty of developments in collecting. Collectors success at retail has started to improve as more folks are finding Black Series figures (in both scales) at their local stores. eBay caused a bit of a frenzy this week as a notorious seller posted the first auction for a collectible from The Force Awakens — a 6″ First Order Stormtrooper which closed at a ridiculous price. Is it legit??? Also this week, new store finds from LEGO, product news for Disney Infinity 3.0, custom 6″ figures and vehicles as well as a new character name revealed fro The Force Awakens! It’s all on Episode 63 of The Realm Recap!
Customizer plisnithus7 has sent in a very cool series of creature maquettes he has done based off of pre-production illustrations from the Original Trilogy.
I thought you guys might be interested in some of the custom Star Wars maquettes I have been making recently based off of characters either not used in the movies or only seen in pre-production sketches/paintings.
Javier created a very cool battle damaged Darth Vader a couple months back. His follow up? A custom 31″ 501st Legion Clone Trooper with battle damage, removable helmet and display base. Check it out after the jump.
After a day that is surely to be long-remembered, Yakface and Flyguy are back this week to discuss the new teaser trailer for The Force Awakens! But before we get to that, we run down the latest in collecting news from Hasbro, Hot Toys, Anovos and more while we also touch on some of the new customs and artwork spawned by The Force Awakens trailer. All this and more on Episode 42 of The Realm Recap.
Once again, we feature a unique 6″ build from customizer Brandon Flores (aka HALCION). Like his AT-ST and AT-AT that have come before, the progress and detail of his new 6″ scale Snowspeeder is unparalleled. Click on through to check out his latest creation.
We shared the custom 6″ scale AT-AT WIP a few days ago and mentioned this piece but today we’re giving it is due spotlight. Brandon Flores in an unbelievably short amount of time, constructed a 6″ scale AT-ST with full functional cockpit. Click on through to view the process of this amazing build from start to finish.
Brandon Flores has captured the attention of many collectors and customizers with his scratch-built 6″ scale AT-ST and now he’s moved on to something even bigger: A 6″ scale AT-AT! Click on through to check out part 1 of a gallery of images documenting the build.
I saw this YouTube video on The RPF Forum documenting a build of a full-size, wearable, METAL Episode VII Stormtrooper helmet based on only the few unofficial photos we’ve seen.
Still miffed that the 6″ Black Series Jabba figures don’t include a proper dais? Alleviate that frustration and build your own! This DIY tutorial popped up on my feed today from The Fwoosh that is really worth a look. The materials are easy enough to come by, and best of all, a minimal amount of skill is required.
Yak reader Darth Ray writes in with a story of a special project he and his son have been working on involving the new Star Wars Command game from Hasbro.
“My son was inspired by the latest episode of “The Realm Recap“. He has started painting (or should it be called re-painting?) Star Wars Command figures. He started with the Ewoks. The attached picture shows the painted Command Ewoks and the Hasbro/Lego Ewoks that inspired the design.” “We’ve always said a Star Wars license should something like this!”
Excellent work Ray! I think the Command line is a perfect “starter pack” for people that are interested in customizing but don’t want to tackle painting a more expensive action figure quite yet. The painting of Command figure could serve as a canvas for honing/developing skills before moving up to a larger scale.
