Toyguide Update: CW15 Ahsoka (Scuba Gear)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Ahsoka in Scuba Gear (CW15) from The Clone Wars line.

PROS: This all-new Ahsoka is a fantastically sculpted figure with an excellent likeness to her more “grown up” look in Season 4 and the overall paint deco is top notch with little to no bleed over – a least on my example. The scuba accessories work well with the figure despite the inability to display her in any discernible swimming poses.

CONS: Sadly, the lack of articulation in the legs really hurts this figure from being anything other than a nice mini Ahsoka statuary.

Lost Line Images at Sandtroopers

Our friends at Sandtroopers.com have posted loose and carded images of the 6 upcoming “Lost Line” Hasbro figures available at SDCC in the Exclusive Carbon Freezing Chamber Set (along with the exclusive Vintage carded Jar Jar in Carbonite). These figures will also be available in the TVC collection and this “Lost Line” look as UGH-style “chase” cards at retail. You can read the full details about them from our Toy Fair 2012 coverage here. Head over the Sandtroopers.com for the images.

Toyguide Update: CW14 Aayla Secura

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Aayla Secura (CW14) – a welcomed reissue for 2012 in The Clone Wars line.

PROS: Collectors for a long time have wanted a second chance at adding some of the figures from the last waves of the 2009-2010 Clone Wars line to their collections. One of the more sought after figures was Aayla Secura (CW40). Thankfully, Hasbro has reissued/repacked her for 2012 and since she is a figure from “a more civilized age”, she is loaded with articulation and is well accessorized.

CONS: The goggles/breath mask combo is a little cumbersome as the eyewear tends to pop off easily and because of how the breath mask is designed, she is really limited to just looking forward while wearing it. Thankfully all the superfluous accessories are removable so that alleviates the issue entirely.

Toyguide Update: CW13 Captain Rex Phase II

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Captain Rex (CW13) donning his Phase II armor in The Clone Wars line.

PROS: On its face, this version of Captain Rex is probably the best looking version yet. The Phase II design simply looks awesome and it’s nice to see Hasbro pull out the weathering brush to give Rex that battle-hardened look (though it doesn’t quite make up for the figure’s short-comings). The paint job overall is very good and I love the tick-marks that are scattered about his armor. Could this be for battle droid “kills” that Rex is keeping track of or could they have a more somber meaning – one for each of his fallen brothers.

CONS: Where to begin. Obviously, the bantha in the room is the unforgivable lack of articulation in the legs and wrists. Their absence make for some pretty non-actiony poses. Why Hasbro didn’t repurpose the Phase II Clone Trooper (CW2) mold is baffling considering it is already using its torso? The non-removable helmet (Commander Cody got one, why not Rex?), while an excellent sculpt, is a bit oversized for the body.

Toyguide Update: CW12 Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with Obi-Wan Kenobi (CW12) sporting an(other) all-new new sculpt in The Clone Wars line.

PROS: A far better likeness to the animated character model. The sculpt for the clothing is on par with the non-animated figures in terms of detail. The recycled climbing pack adds some fun factor back after loosing some articulation.

CONS: The lack of wrist and ankle articulation (especially the wrists) really effects the posing possibilities essential for Jedi figures. An odd/unnecessary “double dip” since Hasbro just released an all-new Obi-Wan last year. Too bad this new head sculpt won’t fit on the previous Obi-Wan body.
