Here we are, just a couple weeks away from Christmas – and there are warning signs all over that The Black Series may be in trouble.
Retailers simply aren’t stocking anything past the first wave of 3.75″ scale figures even during the holiday season, while online stores like Amazon are marking down figures from the first two waves for as little as $2.55 each. This doesn’t seem to bode well for the future of this line. Head on over to the forums and share your thoughts… and it’s not like we didn’t warn Hasbro of these concerns when they first revealed their lineup for the first two waves…
Last week we gave a very positive review on the Galactic Merchants modular diorama walls, and those who have received their sets thus far all seem to agree – these things are outstanding!
I would have to agree with how Tamer at Imperialshipyards puts it, “These may be best action figure product I’ve bought all year!”
It’s Monday… and that means it’s time to check out another great Concept Series installment by localgotal!
This week’s feature entails not one, but several figures to form a Cinema Scene from a memorable scene in A New Hope! Check it out, and share your thoughts for the eyes at Hasbro – would you buy these figures?
If you have a TJ Maxx or Marshalls store in your area, it may be worth your while to swing by and see what they are stocking for the Christmas shopping season. Many stores are still receiving older Legends figures for $4.99 each(which are fantastic kid and collector friendly figures), mid size vehicles in the Clone Wars line at discount prices, and even the giant MTT for $79.99.
The 50th Yakfinities Customizing Challenge continues through December 31, so there’s still several weeks to get those entries in! This one also will be up for a grand prize, as the Yakface staff will be voting for their favorite entries.
You can submit your entries by clicking here, but remember, in order to be eligible for a prize, your submission(s) should be a new custom made for the contest… and not something you made previously.
For those that supported the indiegogo campaign for Galactic Merchants, it appears your investment is about to pay off as the creators have begun shipping their Space Station walls sets! Be on the lookout for email notifications of your order shipping, and until that time, you can check out a full gallery of the sets I received in the mail today.
Personal Note: Without a doubt, these are the highlight of the year for me in collecting. In fact, these might be the best thing I’ve been able to acquire in this hobby for the last several years. With these, we the fans who have supported this hobby for nearly 20 years in the modern era, can finally have adequate displays to show off our figures without having to spend frustrating hours on end making our own sets. It’s just a shame that the company who makes the figures has ignored such a concept for so long. The Galactic Merchants team has done the fan community a great service with these sets and they should be applauded for their efforts.
Another week has passed, and that means we’ve got another new Concept Series update from localgotal! This week’s feature is inspired by the Dark Horse series, The Star Wars. It’s a figure that would be easy money for Hasbro, so we can’t help but wonder why they didn’t make this.
Maybe after they see this, they will consider it. Either way, check out this great new concept figure after the jump!
If you’ve been lucky enough to get your hands on Hasbro’s new Merumeru figure, you may not be too happy about the sculpted armor on his right forearm.
But if you’re willing to shell out for a second copy of this figure, you can make a pretty simple modification to give him a more natural look, which essentially gives you a generic Wookiee. Check out this simple process after the jump!
If you were on the fence with the MTT, I’m not sure you could ask for a better deal than what Yakface reader Daniel C. is reporting finding at his local Marc’s store. A stunning price of $39.99 each for this behemoth droid transport.
Personal Note: I love this vehicle. I realize it’s not for everyone, but I felt it was worth the full retail price and think it’s a shame to see what I consider to be Hasbro’s greatest item of 2012 be ignored by a lot of the community. Sure, it’s from the worst Star Wars movie, but it’s still a killer toy and is the only Separatist related item that stacks up size-wise against all the clone trooper related vehicles Hasbro has produced.
It’s a new week – and that means it’s time for a new Concept Series reveal by localgotal!
The latest concept is an update on a character that Hasbro first released back in the POTJ line.. I’d buy this figure… would you? Decide for yourself after the jump!
