Custom “Realistic Style” Chopper Droid

comparechopper

Hasbro’s take on Chopper from Star Wars Rebels is a fun little droid, but unfortunately it falls short a bit in the articulation department.  While it’s a figure that my son loves, I wanted something a little different that fit in better with my collection, so I took some creative liberties and made my own version for display with my stuff.  This one took a little more effort than recent customs of the AT-DP Driver and Agent Kallus – check it out and share your thoughts after the jump!

Signs of Life at Target

rebelsattarget

Reports are coming in that Target stores across the United States are starting to receive singles here and there of the second wave of Rebels figures (already in the past week, I’ve seen more of these figures than all of Wave 1 combined since they were first released).

Be on the lookout as there’s a good chance your local Target store is receiving these too – even if it’s just 1-2 figures at a time.

Yakfinities: Create a Custom Bounty Hunter

yakfinities

The current Yakfinities Customizing Challenge has just over a month left – so if you like to customize, or have never created a custom but are looking for a reason to, we invite you to participate in Yakfinities #55 – Bounty Hunters.

The variety of entries thus far has been great, but there’s always room for more submissions, and remember, we’re going to have some random winners (regardless of skill level) after this wraps up at the end of March – so head on over to the forums and submit your custom, or just click through to see the cool creations made already.

Custom AT-DP Driver w/ Super Articulation

comparison3

A lot of our readers find the Rebels figure line intriguing (when they can actually find them in stores), but frustrating because so many of us would like for the figures to have more articulation, or even have more of a hybrid/realistic appearance.

There’s a few figures I’ve toyed around with a bit that I’ll be sharing that are pretty easy modifications (little customizing experience necessary) that I’ll be sharing pics of… first off, the AT-DP driver.  Check it out in the forums and let me know what you think (I know it’s not 100% screen accurate, btw).

Customizer Mega Spotlight

020915spotlight

Tonight we give thanks to a few of the many customizers who grace our forums by showcasing some of their work in our latest customizer spotlight.

First up, forumite Grimace shares a ton of custom mini-rigs he has completed, along with an impressive gallery of customs he’s purchased from other collectors as well.  Check them out here.

Our next highlight is courtesy of forum member JawaKing, who shows off a very cool one-footed “choco-droid” and also some other very interesting droid designs in his thread.

Monsterhjerne also joins in the fun, with a group of Biker Scout custom that he’s upgraded – you’ll want to check out his repainted speeder bikes as well.

Last but certainly not least, Darth Daddy (active as usual with great new customs) has created an upgraded Chopper droid from Rebels that is hopefully on Hasbro’s radar for an upgrade.

As always, the customizers appreciate feedback from their fellow collectors, so please feel free to share your thoughts in the forums or here in our comments section.

Toy Fair Q&A Sessions w/ Hasbro

logo

Toy Fair didn’t provide much of anything worthwhile from Hasbro this year on the Star Wars front, but we ‘d be remiss to not mention a couple of Q&A sessions that Hasbro held with our friends at Imperialshipyards and Jeditemplearchives during the event.

Check them out by clicking on their respective links and see what Hasbro had to say!

UPDATE – We’re happy to share the Q&A session that our friends at Sirstevesguide was able to partake in as well – including a very interesting comment by the Hasbro team that we hope is an encouraging sign…

Desert Alcove Sets Available for Preorder

desertden

After a boring Toy Fair, and really a down time for 3.75″ collecting in general, there’s finally something to get excited about!  Thanks to Twelfth Parsec, who is now offering preorders for some spectacular looking Desert Alcove playsets, collectors can FINALLY have something to proudly display their various action figures in.

Collectors who got in on their amazing “Space Trees” playsets last year were able to finally have a place for their furball warriors to call home, and can attest to the quality and value of the items made available by the folks at Twelfth Parsec.  Check out the conversations by those who have received previous products from them here in our forums.

So, if you are a collector and want to spice up your action figure scenes, these Desert Alcove sets may be just what you’ve been waiting for.  Support this team as they listen to what fans are asking for as they are themselves collectors too, and we can hope that with success on this latest playset items that we’ll see more great products in the future.

On any note, isn’t it frustrating that the big companies with all the resources in the world overlook amazing products like these mini playsets and instead focus resources on stuff like this?  It’s all the reason why so many collectors and fans of the hobby in general have been voicing strong opinions in the forums about the state of the hobby for quite some time.

Remaining Wish Lists – The Phantom Menace

menace

Hasbro’s focus is going to be on the upcoming films moving forward, so it’s doubtful we are going to see them dip into the existing films for reference material for a while, but there’s still quite a few characters that have yet to be realized in plastic form, or could be released again in some manner.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be exploring some of these options in our forums, and invite you to join in the discussions here.
