Episode 316: Arghr Rugh-Rugh!

Star Wars collectors know the feeling of completing a set. Be it a full set of Power of the Force 2 figures, a full set of Sci-Fi Book Club hardcover novels, a full set of West End Games Role Playing guides, or the full 92 vintage figures, these journeys can be long, or can be as quick as the right eBay auction. On this week’s Star Wars Action News, Arnie tells how one of his collecting holy grail quests was accomplished as a birthday gift for Marjorie. Listen to find out what vintage collection it is!

Also on this week’s show, Brock joins us for two book reviews: Fate of the Jedi – Ascension by Christie Golden, and the 25th Anniversary Edition of Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire! And Marjorie and Arnie review the Toys R Us exclusive Death Star Trench Run vehicle pack, and tell you where the best deal on Vintage figures is this week.

With the Top 10 figures submitted to Hasbro based on listener votes, the winner of the Wal-Mart exclusive Blu-Ray Boba Fett poster, and more, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News podcast!

Toyguide Update: VC50 Han Solo (Bespin)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of Han Solo in Bespin Outfit (VC50) from The Vintage Collection.

PROS: Finally, the nearly definitive Bespin Han has been delivered! Hasbro went the extra mile with this release by tooling an excellent sculpt loaded with articulation and the included accessories are gravy as well.

CONS: A minor quibble is that the thigh strap is missing from the holster –  not a deal breaker, but it would have really brought this version into the perfect category. Even though it includes the welder and goggles*, one wonders why a gas mask or binders weren’t included. *Hasbro must really have an affinity for the welding profession considering similar accessories were included with the Echo Base version.)

Toyguide Update: VC61 Boba Fett (Prototype Armor)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the Boba Fett – Prototype Armor (VC61) mailaway from The Vintage Collection.

PROS: This never-before-offered figure looks striking both on and off the card. Nice paint apps where applicable and uses a great sculpt as a base. Shipping now and in a reinforced shipping mailer.

CONS: Being a kitbashed figure, it’s not entirely accurate in terms of accuracy to the test costume, namely the inclusion of the holster. Another Boba Fett mailaway? Hopefully Hasbro ventures out to other Star Wars characters for the next one. This figure is part of the sequential number system usually reserved for figures available at retail.

Toyguide Update: CW39 Hondo Ohnaka

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of Hondo Ohnaka (CW39) from The Clone Wars Collection.

PROS: Although delayed, Hasbro manages to get a hard to find figure from 2009 back in to the rotation and on the pegs. The overall sculpt is nice as is the inclusion of his sidekick Pilf Mukmuk.

CONS: The limited articulation count may be off-putting for some. May still be difficult to find in some areas. Tiny goggles may be the first accessory lost by unsupervised, young collectors.
