VC05 AT-AT Commander

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of the AT-AT Commander: the next basic figure entry in the 2010 Vintage Collection.

PROS: A nice alternative to the TSC General Veers without rendering him totally obsolete. Functional cross-draw holster is one of the better designs to come out of Hasbro. Removable armor detail is top notch as well as the added quilting texture on the inside of the helmet.

CONS: The uniform seems a little light in color at least when compared to the other Imperials of recent years. Goggles are a bit of a fight to stretch over the helmet, and once done then they are a little too loose fitting on the head under the helmet.

Darth Maul/Owen Lars Visionaries Comic Pack

The crew at JediInsider has posted a first look at the packaging for the upcoming SDCC exclusive Darth Maul/Owen Lars Visionaries Comic Pack. Designed to reflect the new “Shadow of the Darkside” style packaging for 2010, this set features a unique slipcase outerbox containing the traditionally packaged two pack. Look for this to be available at SDCC and later through HasbroToyShop and StarWarsShop.com for $14.99. Head on over for a closer look and then weigh in with your thoughts on this in our forums

VC01 Dengar

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with the addition of the Dengar: the next basic figure entry in the 2010 Vintage Collection.

PROS: And you thought the 2004 Saga version was nice? Although that six year old figure still has a certain charm about it, the 2010 version is a solid upgrade in terms of sculpt, articulation and accessories. This is, by all accounts, the definitive “Payback”.

CONS: None that I can discern – though it would be cool if you could mount the blaster rifle to his backpack.

VC08 Darth Vader

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of Darth Vader: the next basic figure entry in the 2010 Vintage Collection.

PROS: A solid enough figure to retire all other Vader versions that feature less articulation than this one.

CONS: Poor sculpt for the right hand as it can’t hold a lightsaber unaided. The three-part helmet is a useless feature as the removal of the neck collar accessory exposes a poor face paint job and misshapen head. Silver “chain” for the cape still looks ridiculous (Hasbro, please retire it). In short, if you aren’t planning on keeping this carded, stick with the 2008 TLC BD No. 8 version and you’ll be just fine.

What If??? Droid Factory Playset

Last night I was thinking about the abandoned concept of a Droid Factory Playset meant to add additional play value to the now expired Build-A-Droid feature from the Legacy Collection and came up with the above mockup.

Is this something you wish Hasbro would have attempted or does the idea of recycling a 30 year old mold smack of desperation? Click the image above for a closer look and if you have an opinion, feel free to comment on this on our Facebook page or in our forums.
