Action Figure Customizing Panel at C7

Customizing legend sillof (Jamie Follis) will be hosting a customizing panel at Star Wars Celebration on Friday, April 17th from 12pm-1pm.  Work from some of the Yakface forum members your are familiar with will be featured in this panel.  This will be the second time that Jamie has lead up this event, and if your are going to be at C7 and enjoy customizing or are interested in getting started, you ought to make an effort to attend.

At this panel, Jamie Follis will give attendees a complete overview of the process of creating or modifying your own action figures.  The panel will have something for newcomers as well as seasoned customizers including an introduction to the hobby, different types of customizing, instructions, suggestions, and tips on the hobby, and a showcase of some of the most creative fan made figures. Instructions will range from construction, to sculpting, painting, casting and 3-D printing your own pieces. A few lucky attendees will receive random prices. Jamie will also be hosting customizing classes daily at the Diorama Workshop area in the main showroom throughout the convention.

For more details, head on over to our forums or through the official C7 site.

Customs & Answers is Back!

We are very pleased to deliver a new installment Customs & Answers for all you customizing fans out there!

It had been a while since we had interviewed one of our active forum members like this – so while Hasbro seems to be dithering with the hobby, it made sense to interview a customizer who keeps the 3.75″ dream alive – Peakob1.

Go grab a drink and kick back and enjoy some helpful tips and walkthroughs from one of our favorite customizers in the hobby after the jump!

What to Expect with The Black Series?

SW-Black-logo

Our good friends at Jedi Temple Archives have posted some details regarding what we may expect to see in terms of which 3.75″ figures will be seeing higher production runs than others (i.e., which individual figures will be offered as full case assortments to online stores, etc.).

Some of this sounds like good news to fill demand on certain figures, while there’s also a couple of figures that just don’t make sense to see high production runs (such as Dutch Vander).

Personal Note:  That last assortment case that’s full of new figures, such as Carbonite Han, Boushh Leia, new Jawas, and of course Mosep has me concerned.  Will this assortment even hit retail?  Will it be in very short supply?  Check out JTA’s report and be sure to share your thoughts there or in our forums.

While checking out the goods from the 200+ dealers on hand, I snapped quite a few pics of various items for sale at this ever-growing collecting event – check them out by clicking here!

Finally, we get some more OT goodness from Evilivo, who has created an upgraded version of Max Rebo’s organ, a revamped version of Salicious Crumb, and more.

Check these great customs out in our customizing forums and share your thoughts!  And if you’re customizing and not sharing your work in our forums, we’d love to see your stuff!

Yakfinities Customizing Challenges Continue

One of the best things about customizing is recognizing the many different techniques and approaches to creating custom figures.  Case in point, recently we’ve seen two very different approaches to creating a Trandoshan – head to the forums for a closer look.

Also, our current Yakfinities Customizing Challenge continues through the end of March – and the theme is Bounty Hunters – so if you’re a customizer, what are you waiting for?  Create a custom and join in the fun… over 40 customs have already been created this round, and we hope to see many more!  And remember, we give away prizes at the end.

Wal-Mart Awakens

Tonight I swung by Wal-Mart, and questioned why I even waste my time there anymore.  But to my surprise, I walked by the pallets and saw a fresh case of Wave 1 Rebels figures.  Perhaps this is an isolated chance of dumb luck, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing other similar reports soon – so it may be worth your while to add Wal-Mart back to your occasional toy runs… because this toy run dry spell can’t last forever.
