Toyguide Update: Tusken Raider (11 of 12)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with the Tusken Raider (11 of 12) from Walmart’s exclusive “Discover the Force in 3-D” collection.

PROS: The Tusken Raider from 2006 gets back to the market for those that might have missed him previously. Soft goods are superior in texture, weight and overall esthetic to many other modern figures that feature fabric accents. The deco update addes variety to the Tusken ranks as they all should look different from one another in that respect.

CONS: Swivel elbows are a reminder of how spoiled we are with most of today’s super-articulated figures. Forearms have a tendency to pop off when posing the figure dynamically.

Episode 338: James Luceno the Wise

Maybe not since Heir to the Empire has a Star Wars Expanded Universe been as hotly anticipated as James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis. Since Revenge of the Sith hit theaters Star Wars ans have wondered how much of Palpatine’s tale of his former master was true. Could Plagueis stop people from dying? Did he pass on the knowledge to Palpatine? And, most importantly, did Plagueis cause the creation of Anakin Skywalker? But after appearing on Del Rey’s Star Wars book list for release in 2008 the book was pulled by Lucasfilm.

Now, four years after it’s originally scheduled release, James Luceno and Lucasfilm have given us Darth Plagueis and answered those many questions…from a certain point of view. On this week’s Star Wars Action News James Luceno talks to Arnie about what transpired to get this novel released, George Lucas’ direct involvement in the story, how The Clone Wars reviving Darth Maul impacted his story, and whether or not Plagueis really did create The Chosen One. Read the book, then come to get all the backstory and Luceno’s own interpretation of the events hinted at by the novel.

With Star Wars eye shadow, more deleted scenes figures hitting pegs, and an Ultimate LEGO R2-D2, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News!

Toyguide Update: Destroyer Droid (3 of 12)

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the next addition for the 2012 “Darth Maul” product line. We continue with the Destroyer Droid (3 of 12) from Walmart’s exclusive “Discover the Force in 3-D” collection.

PROS: Hasbro revisits the upgraded Destroyer Droid from the TAC line with a slightly different paint job and a recast of the deflector shield remedying its transparency issue to some degree.

CONS: You still can’t “transform” the droideka into is rolling mode and you only get half of the deflector shield. The figure’s interaction with the shield is a bit clunky but overall it serves it’s purpose. Despite Hasbro efforts to recast the shield in a more translucent plastic, it might have been better to carry the previous shield color forward to avoid having mismatched complete shields.
