Toyguide Update: VC90 Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew)
The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the our first Blu-ray deleted scene figure addition with Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew) from The Vintage Collection.
PROS: A great sculpt and upgrade to the previously unnamed figure from the Saga Collection. The figure has all the articulation we’ve come to expect in the Vintage line.
CONS: Despite being are really nice sculpt, Hasbro misses the mark in terms of utilizing an incorrect sculpt for the torso. The shirt for Cracken is all wrong (note the collars/lapels – he shouldn’t have them) when compared to both the outfit in the film and the custom artwork created to the figure’s portrait on the card. The joints for the shoulders are mis-matched in terms of color and stand out quite a bit against the “sleeves” of his vest. No helmet or comlink accessory are a letdown as is the superfluous big honkin’ gun that doesn’t seem to fit quite right in the Vintage line.
Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.
You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.
Episode 336: In Memory of Ralph McQuarrie
This past weekend a light went out in the universe as Ralph McQuarrie passed away at the age of 82. The concept artist of the original trilogy, the artist took Lucas’ words and created visions of a galaxy far, far away that would inspire generations of artists to come. It is to the memory of this great visionary that Marjorie, Arnie, and the crew of Star Wars Action News dedicate our latest podcast. He will be missed.
Also on this week’s show, Marjorie and Arnie review the latest wave of Vintage figures–the deleted scene wave featuring Luke, Leia, Lando, Cracken, and a Mon Calamari A-Wing pilot. With a discussion on the ethics of figure hiding, new store discounts, and more, it’s all in this week’s Star Wars Action News Podcast!

If you can’t sell it, mark it down…
Barely a month after new product hit the shelves, some Wal-Marts are already putting some of Hasbro’s new line on clearance. It seems like some retailers are realizing that vastly inferior repacks from a decade ago aren’t in demand; especially at inflated prices – how long before Hasbro realizes this too?
For more details on what was found marked down in the St. Louis area today, click on the image above.
Multi-Site Customizing Event Continues
We would like to remind all the customizers out there of a tribute we are running in honor of a good Yakface friend who passed away last summer – a multi-site customizing event that was in the works by a collector know around the forums as MercuryArtStudios. We were shocked and saddened last summer when he tragically lost his life in a car accident.
Mike Martinez left behind a great following in the customizing community and touched a lot of people. In his memory, we wanted to see through an Evolution style themed customizing contest that he had been planning – so we have teamed up with two other sites he was active at to make this happen. We are proud to work with the great folks at Echo Base News and Imperial Shipyards to host this customizing event.
To help encourage participation, we’ve also gathered a great pool of prizes – for more information and rules of entry, click here!
