Gentle Giant has updated this week and is now taking pre-orders for the Red Snaggletooth – their next figure in their Jumbo Kenner Figure line.
With a commitment to keep in line with the vintage Kenner theme, Snaggletooth comes packaged on a 1979 Star Wars-inspired blister card featuring original photos and “20 back” art work, including a resealable plastic outer clam shell to help protect and display this limited edition collectible.
Sideshow Collectibles has updated today with product images and pre-ordering info for their upcoming Captain Rex Premium Format figure. Head on over to take a look then watch for pre-order to start this Thursday.
Another new Customizing Challenge has just launched in the forums, and runs all the way through the end of June!
This gives customizers three months to create a custom for the latest theme, Cloud City Denizens… all you have to do is make a custom of a character that lives on Cloud City, or simply a traveler passing through — established or completely fan-fiction — it’s up to you!
So, whether you’re a seasoned veteran customizer or new to this great part of the hobby, join in the fun after the jump!
PROS: Hasbro tools up a brand new lil’ Annie here and despite the lack of articulation the sculpt is very good and has a great young Jake Lloyd likeness. The podracer-inspired backpack is a nice accessory and styled in a way that fits right into the Star Wars universe. It also works well with the figure’s limited range. We are also treated to a new removable helmet/cowl accessory that looks cool and doesn’t come across as oversized.(This same helmet is available in the Mos Espa Arena Battle Pack).
CONS: Articulation is pretty lacking at only 6 points making this a throwback to an era of sculpting we hoped we were beyond. He doesn’t fit very convincingly in his podracer to the point of saying he doesn’t work with it at all. Too bad Hasbro’s team isn’t forward thinking enough to realize this when planning their merchandise, but this is what we’ve come to expect in recent years.

Marjorie and Arnie are back behind the mic on Star Wars Action News, and they’ve brought with them new Star Wars collecting news and reviews. On this week’s podcast, they review two exclusive Gentle Giant mini-busts, the 2011 Collector’s Guild exclusive Commander Fox and the 2012 WonderCon exclusive Yoda with 3-D glasses. With limited production runs are these two busts worth featuring in your collection? Listen to find out!
Also on this week’s show, your Star Wars Action News hosts run down early shots of Hasbro’s next wave of vintage figures, wave 2 of Movie Heroes figures, and foreign Phantom Menace 3-D promotional items. With Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination touring news, new items from Acme Archives and Sideshow Collectibles, and a Star Wars dance, it’s all on this week’s Star Wars Action News!
PROS: It’s been quite a while since we’ve received an Episode I-sourced Jar Jar and this all-new version doesn’t disappoint as it features a great sculpt with ample articulation.
CONS: Nothing major, though Jar Jar could benefit from additional articulation, paint details or possibly an on-screen accessory.

I was able to score the entire “wave 2” assortment of Movie Heroes today from my local Walmart and have been posted a few loose shots of them on Facebook. In doing so, I’ve received a few emails regarding the quality and functionality of the Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan with light-up lightsabers in particular. Click on through for some additional details regarding these controversial figures.
Our friends at JediDefender.com and JediTempleArchives.com have shared information regarding an ebayer who has several auctions going on currently for upcoming figures of Nom Anor, Aayla Secura, Dr. Evazan, Kithaba, and the upcoming 501st Clone Trooper.
Other than Hasbro’s lazy effort with the ginormous helmet on the clone, this looks like some of Hasbro’s finest work. Head on over to Jedi Defender or Jedi Temple Archives for the auction links and share your thoughts in the Yakface Forums!
PROS: Walmart picks up a great exclusive here. Anything astromech related has a huge following in the collecting community as demonstrated by their steady sell through at retail. The deco on all of the droids is great making these the most accurate versions to date. As a bonus, these figures use the B.A.D. sculpt which promotes a ton of customizing options and additional play value. R2-N3 (the green one) gets a debut here and each droid includes their power harness/docking stations – all of which act as a huge accessory set to the Naboo Royal Starship/Playset from 1999.
CONS: Some may not like the Build-A-Droid/Droid Factory play system. Initially difficult to find but the set is now shipping in greater quantity. Since there is only one new figure (by name) in this set collectors might feel obligated to pick this up by that reason alone.
