SDCC Exclusive McQuarrie Concept Chewbacca Mini Bust
Comic-Con.org has revealed Gentle Giant’s final exclusives for SDCC 2016 continuing with the McQuarrie Concept Chewbacca Mini Bust.
Ralph McQuarrie’s early designs of Chewbacca are uniquely different from that of the final screen version. Based on original pre-production illustrations for Star Wars: A New Hope, this mini bust displays a fascinating look at McQuarrie’s conceptual development of one of science fiction’s most beloved characters. Digitally sculpted by the master artisans at Gentle Giant Ltd., this gorgeous bust used Mr. McQuarrie’s original artwork as reference. Cold cast in high quality polystone and hand painted, each limited edition bust comes individually numbered and includes a matching certificate of authenticity. Available at SDCC 2016. May the Force be with you.
McQuarrie Stormtrooper Statue Pre-Order
Sideshow is now taking preorders for the Ralph McQuarrie Stormtrooper statue.
Expertly crafted in 1:5th scale, the soldier of the Empire is depicted patrolling a corridor of the Death Star. As seen in McQuarrie’s early incarnations, the Stormtrooper comes with multiple display options – carrying a shield in one hand while wielding a lightsaber or blaster in the other – and is fitted with distinctive helmets and armor that more closely resembled fighter pilot gear than the final costumes seen on screen. Reviewing a broad spectrum of McQuarrie’s imaginative designs for the Imperial Stormtroopers, Sideshow’s artists have translated his iconic artwork in a brilliant homage to a Star Wars that is both familiar, yet never was.

Toyguide Update: SDCC Exclusive Luke Skywalker (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust
The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the SDCC Exclusive Luke Skywalker (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.
PROS: It’s hard to believe that it has been four years since the release of the Darth Vader (McQuarrie Concept) Mini Bust, but alas, this year’s offering is the perfect complement to it. The interpretive design, much like the Kotobukiya and Hasbro releases before it, captures Ralph McQuarrie’s original style and vision for the hero. The sculpt and paint apps are impressive leaving little room for improvement. Essentially, this is a must-have for any McQuarrie aficionado or mini bust collector.
CONS: None. It’s pretty fantastic.
Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this bust is worth adding to your collection.
You can also weigh in with your impressions on the figures we add to our toyguide on facebook and in our forums.
