Customizer Spotlight: Buried Egg

SPOTLIGHT

Few things in the hobby excite me as much as seeing collectors who know how to display their stuff in massive dioramas, so when forum member Buried Egg shared pics of his Emperor’s Arrival scene, I immediately felt ashamed of my personal pathetic display of this icon scene, and had to share his work with all of you.

It’s stuff like this that inspires me to customize more when I can, and put extra effort into photonovels and the like.  For more of his work and other great dioramas by Yakface forum members, head to the forums.

Concept Series Update #18

concept-series2

After a bit of a delay between updates, localgotal strikes back with a vengeance with his latest additions to the popular Concept Series lineup he’s created.  This latest update harkens back to the roots of the Star Wars saga, and includes three figures that are long overdue for updates by Hasbro.

Why they aren’t making figures like he proposes is quite beyond my capacity.  Check them out, enjoy the pics, and join in the discussion after the jump!

New Additions to The Photonovel Alliance

Yakface forum member Darth Kikinou has informed us of many new photonovel additions to The Photonovel Alliance – including some great new Indiana Jones adventures by Lance Quazar, and the most recent installment in The Enloe Trials by yours truly.

Kick off your shoes and make yourself comfortable with your morning coffee and spend some time checking out some of the great Star Wars adventures housed on his site – I would argue that some of the creativity and storytelling there rivals the work professionals who get paid to do this for a living.

Don’t you wish Hasbro was cool like this?

Boutros77

Today’s big reveal with the repacked 6″ scale Han and Greedo with a  flimsy cardboard diorama just illustrates for so many of us, how out of touch Hasbro is with the market.  We don’t care about cheap cardboard settings for figures, and we sure as heck aren’t looking to spend our money on repacks of pegwarmers just for the sake of different packaging.

For a refreshing look at how Hasbro ought to be managing such display pieces, head on over to Banthaskull.com and check out the amazing work of Boutross77, who does this sort of thing right.  Chances are you’ve seen his work before, but today felt like a good time to look back at one of his finer diorama pieces, dubbed the “Hero Booth” from the cantina.

Personal note:  My fingers are crossed that someway, somehow, Disney takes over the playset/diorama rights in the 3.75″ scale from Hasbro and starts to deliver on a concept that clearly Hasbro is completely clueless on.  This whole post is certainly a “personal note,” so please pardon my passion on this subject.
