Gillard Appearing on E3 Lightsaber Box

Hi. I don’t have a photo or anything, but I was at Target over the weekend and saw a generic “Jedi” electronic lightsaber in Ep III packaging. Green blade. Ki Adi Mundi was prominently featured among the several Jedi on the package – as was a long-haired, clean-shaven guy that looked remarkably familiar. Upon further inspection, I realized that this Jedi face belong to none other than Cin Drallig, Nick Gillard’s Jedi alter ego. Pretty funny seeing the face of the tank driver from Indy III dressed up with a Qui-Gon style haircut and stuck on a lightsaber box. Given all Gillard’s important work on the lightsaber fights of the prequels, I guess it was more than fitting that his mug wind up gracing the box for a toy lightsaber. Could a Cin Drallig action figure be far behind? Who knows.

Celebration 3 Saturday Update

Guys it’s another night after here in Indy, while I hope in the end everyone will remeber the positive parts of the convention, the lines here are a significant negative for many. Lines to get in (in cold freezing rain), lines– in some cases over 7 hours long to get into the Celebration Store, and even lines to enter the Celebration at Celebration.

The day started with the much publicized appearance of George Lucas, for which many C3 fans waited outside in line since Friday night. While meeting Lucas was the highlight for many, others were focused on his announcements/confirmations. First the Clone Wars cartoon will be a regular series in the future, appearing in half hour segements. Second, he confirmed the Live Action TV series which appears to be planned for sometime in the next couple of years and will probably take place between the trilogies.

The panel discussions were outstanding as were some of the star sessions. Kenny Baker and David Prowse put on an outstanding hour long session. In addition the collecting panels had some high points– one being a collector card given to attendees of each session, another was Vic Wertz Unproduced Toys session. We’ll be bringing you some photos soon, however to say the least he tore the wrapping off some unproduced items which have not even hit the rumor mill– from a POTF2 Dagobah playset (complete with PHOTOS), to sketches for a POTF2 era Death Star Playset which was to be three feet tall, and have removable sections (floors) which doubled as playsets for most, if not all of the trilogy environments. The whole thing really looked like a death star– round– moonlike- in its “closed” mode.

Another great discussion was the Del Rey panel announcing the creation of a new major time period in the ongoing novel line. The new period called Legacy, takes place 37 years after the battle of Yavin, and immediately following the Dark Nest trilogy which hits stores in July. Three Authors will rotate over the 9 book (3 hard cover) series– YES Denning, Allston (Wraith Squadron), and Traviss (Hard Contact) will pen the new series. Each will write one book segments, rather than duologies or trilogies. The new era is characterized by Luke having congealed the Jedi into a strong order, however planetary interests are beginning to raise intergalactic problems and Luke sees a coming darkness. Among the announcements is that we will see Wedge, Fett, the Mandalorian Watch, and all of the existing central characters. They also mentioned that as this is called legacy, it will be looking both forward as Luke’s legacy to the future, and hinted that it would look back at the legacy of the Jedi, and possibly Anakin Skywalker. Also promised is that “things will come full circle with Vergere”. To say the least it sounds outstanding.
The cap to the evening was supposed to be Celebration at Celebration– a ticketed event, however there were long waiting lins to get into the Celebration hall which led to another equally long (or so it seemed) line to purchase event exclusive T-shirts. From the way the line was going it looked like some people would spent a significant portion of the 4 hour party in line for the T-shirts. The Jazz band playing Jazz versions of Star Wars music was excellent, however, the theming to a Street Party presented by Jabba fell short.

Celebration 3 Friday Update

While we are working to bring you the sights of Celebration 3 in our photo updates, we also will be updating nightly with highlights from each day here in Indianapolis (as well as news posts).

While undoubtably Hasbro’s Event this morning at 10:30 unveiling the Evolution and Battle Pack figure lines was the highlight for those of us who have been collecting sculpted pieces of plastic for longer than we would like to admit (at least to strangers), it also saw the unveiling of the Rick Mccallum Episode III Spectacular. Everyone who attended Episode II will remember the tongue and cheek, notorious introduction to the Attack of the Clones footage that “there’s this new movie called Spiderman and we thought you’d like to see the trailer” which was followed by the amazing footage of Yoda’s lightsaber battle with Dooku. To say the last the Spectacular once again did not disappoint. In fact, if anything it surpassed itself. Without spoiling the plot for anyone this footage is way, way over the top of what we saw in the trailer a few weeks ago.

In the starfighter battle scenes it is so realistic you almost feel like you are in the cockpit. The Jedi arts and battle scenes rise to an even higher level than we saw in the fight in the Geonosis hanger in E2. Without going into who, where, when, or why, Yoda is even more impressive and masterful than before. Words simply cannot describe. Similarly the level of detail and attention to realism in the footage we saw was simply unbelieveable. The only parallel to the level of attention paid to the small details is the descriptions we saw from ILM when they were discussing choreographing the pod racer crashes in E1.

With that said, Celebration 3 has lots of lines, from the store for the exclusive figure, to the food court, even to take pictures with other fans dressed up as your favorite characters. There are a number of exclusives in addition to the Celebration 3 Darth Vader. Master Replicas has a dark chrome Obi-Wan .45 light saber. Code 3 has a 3-D sculpted poster for the Empire Strikes Back, based the one with Vader’s mask centered on a star field (this sold out for the weekend earlier today), and Gentle Giants has their Sandtrooper bust as well.

The other large piece of news is that Rick McCallumn confirmed in one of his sessions that ROTS was completed this past Tuesday and that a LIVE ACTION TV SHOW is planned. He said that nothing has been planned beyond that at this point because they simply have been dealing with the Sith around the clock.

Hasbro also emphasized that they view “Star Wars as forever” and plan to produce thought the end of their current license (in 2015ish).

Tomorrow we’ll have highlights of Saturday, including some info from Lucas’ appearance as well as a look at some more of the exclusives– including the inevitable convention freebies!

Tonight, while kicking myself for not going the Celebration III to snag up all the countless exclusives no doubt being offered, I went out for a night of “fig-hunting” and hit the jackpot as they say. I found the Deluxe Yoda on Can-Cell, Vulture Droid and the awesome Darth Vader on Operating Table! I tore into that sucka right away and discovered some pretty cool things that I will no doubt cover in my next review that I’ll post in a couple days. Stay tuned and watch for more exciting Celebration III news & photos!

PS: For all you Minnesota readers out there, I found these at the Wal-Mart in Maple Grove, MN plus at the Maple Grove Kohl’s, there are about 4 to 5 Exploding Grievous’s and 30, that’s right thirty Clone Trooper #7 figures there for $5.99 each. Great for army building!

For those that are SPOILER sensitive, my review covers the music and ONLY the music. I don’t go into comments or speculations about what part of the film each piece may or may not accompany. I will leave that to the track titles, and Even those I’ve inviso-texed so that the spoiler-wary can still read what I hope is an interesting take on the latest and last Star Wars soundtrack ever.

A Little Off Topic – But an INCREDIBLE Piece

Since most of us here are fans of more Science Fiction than just Star Wars. I thought I would point out one of the most incredible pieces that is now for sale that I have seen in a long, long time. I not only grew up with Star Wars, but also the phrase “In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream”. Sideshow has just released for Preorder, their new Alien Mini Bust from the original Aline Movie. What is truly unique about this item is that it is personally Autographed by H.R. Giger, the artist who’s work inspired the design (and nightmares) of the Alien Creature. This is a VERY expensive piece at $1000, but it is limited to only 500 pieces, and Sideshow is offering a flexpay program for those that order. Today when i went to pick up my advance ticktes for Episode 3, i noticed these cups at the concession stand, they were $3.95 each, they also had one with Obi-Wan and General Grevious, dont know if all theaters are carrying them, but National Amusmens Theaters are carrying them i’m guessing it is because they carry Pepsi Products, they are made of very durable plastic.

McGregor Ban ‘Star Wars’ Fans from Stage Door Actor Ewan McGregor has a warning for fans hoping to meet him at the stage door of his new London play – don’t bring any Star Wars memorabilia. The Scots heart-throb is starring in the West End production of 1950s musical Guys And Dolls from June, which opens only 12 days after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith hits cinemas worldwide. And while McGregor is prepared for the Star Wars frenzy over the next few weeks, he is banning the sci-fi film from the back door of the Piccadilly Theatre. McGregor explains, “I made a decision a while back, I’m not going to be available to sign Star Wars stuff at the stage door. I’ll be available to sign people’s programs and things. But if I start that it will be a nightmare. What will happen, people come to Guys and Dolls and want their program signed, but get monstered by the professional autograph hunters. I don’t like to play that game so I won’t be signing any Star Wars stuff.”

Start Checking Your Theaters

Hi, I have been a Yakreader for years, but never posted anything, since I’m from Puerto Rico and things always arrive here a couple of days or even weeks later. But Today I went to a movie theater, just passing by and I saw a sign saying that you could buy your tickets for Episode III, of course I didn’t believe it, but went and asked, and now I have tickets for Revenge of the Sith more then a month before the movie arrives!! Just in case the theater I went was the Cinevista Theater on Plaza las Americas.

Multiple Early Bird How To

I was in the same boat as you guys. I ordered 2 [Early Birds] from Walmart.com,received one packing slip. What I did was send one in with the packing slip, and one with the online receipt that I printed (hoping they will [accept] it). I wrote a note on the slip that explained I ordered two. Later, I found out, someone in the TradeFedration.net, had the same problem and emailed Hasbro. They told him to send it all in one envelope, 2 upc’s, two certificates, and the one packing slip, making sure to circle or highlight the quantity on the packing slip. I wish I had known that sooner. Hopefully I will get my two sets without problems.

Lightsaber Sets From Sam’s Anyone

While I do not have a digital camera to snap a shot of the item I found I will describe it for you. It is a Lightsaber two pack. It has Obi-Wan, and Anakins Lightsaber (the Deluxe model) and two figures. I cannot tell if they are just repeat molds, but they look kinda different. It is in standard ROTS packaging and comes with a bonus poster. It was purchased at Sams Club in Winston Salem, NC for $29.99. They are displaying it in the seasonal item section. Just figured you would like to know.

While going through my mail today, I noticed a square, black envelope with the Death Star enblazened on the front. Inside, a seven panel 2-sided brochure complete with familiar lava graphic and promo images of Darth Vader, Yoda, Clonetrooper, C-3PO, Darth Sidious and the Target Dog with Vader’s lightsaber in his mouth! On the reverse, coupons for soda, cereal, m&m’s Trivial Pursuit DVD game and shots of different merchandise currently available. Very nice. AudioBook Blues

Audio content delivered on little plastic wafers is usually known as a Compact Disc; not so with the Revenge of the Sith audio books. These discs do NOT carry the Compact Disc logo because they do not conform to CD Standard.

Recently Philips, the owner of the “Redbook Audio Standard,” decreed that only compliant discs may carry the logo. Revenge of the Sith discs do not carry the logo.

Now, whether it’s the Dolby Surround encoding (which is possible) or, (as I suspect) a deliberate attempt to thwart piracy, these CDs do not play without random skipping on a computer cd drive. Consequently “ripping” to an iPod, or other hand held device is not likely to produce a clean transfer.

According to a press release from Philips on the topic, consumers should consider the discs that do not conform to be defective.

A Variation Of A Variation

As much as I hate to throw fuel on the fire in cases like this, it would be irresponsible of me not to report it.

However, it looks like there is a variation on the RED Senate Guard figure. As you can see from the photo (click thumbnail to enlarge) the helmet on the Guard on the right has a glossier and slightly more vibrant red finish than the guard on the left.

The dull helmet version was picked up at a Meijer store a couple of days ago, the glossy version was found by my friend Rich M. at a Kmart on 4/2. Can any of you confirm further sightings of this variation? Let me know.

ROTS Officially Given PG-13 Rating

According to Ain’t It Cool News Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith has officially been handed a PG-13 rating by the MPAA.

This really doesn’t come as much of a surprise as this has been widely speculated for months. However, those of us that feel the final chapter needs to go down a darker and more mature path (myself included) will find this to be welcome news.

It seems that Jedi Master Plo Koon will get a ride of his very own as shown by this preview at Hasbro.

The Plo Koon Jedi Starfighter is simply a re-decoed version of the Episode II Starfighters with what appears to be similar markings as on the Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker Starfighter vehicle. No word yet if this will be an exclusive or readily available everywhere.

George Lucas to Attend Star Wars Celebration III

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 6, 2005) Star Wars creator/writer/director
George Lucas will make a guest appearance at Star Wars Celebration III. His
appearance at the Indiana Convention Center during the huge Star Wars
fan festival will mark the first time that Lucas has attended a fan
convention since the gathering that marked the 10-year anniversary of A New Hope in 1987. Celebration III comes less than a month before the May 19th
opening of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.©

George has been very busy finishing Episode III, getting the last shots from Industrial Light & Magic, and doing the final mix,©˜ said Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm©ˆs head of Fan Relations. ©¯So we were delighted that he was able to carve some time out from a heavily-booked schedule to share some of his thoughts with fans in person as he completes this amazing 30-year screen saga.

The filmmaker will be appearing on the Sagamore Ballroom stage with
host Jay Laga’aia, where he will answer questions from fans about his
experiences creating the Star Wars saga, the surprises along the way, and his
thoughts about what might come next both for him as a filmmaker and for Star
Wars after Revenge of the Sith leaves the big screen.

Final details are being arranged, but Lucas has confirmed his plans to
be in Indianapolis at some point during the four-day Celebration III, April 21 – 24. Gen Con LLC, which is managing Celebration III in partnership with
Lucasfilm, has reopened its advance ticket sales from now through 5 PM
PST this Friday, April 8. Advance ticket sales already are well more than
double those of advanced sales for Celebration II.

Attendees can check the onsite schedule and the Information Booth at
the Indiana Convention Center for the details of Lucas©ˆ appearance at
Celebration III. The details will also be posted on www.starwars.com/c3 before the show.

To celebrate the May 19th launch of the last Star Wars movie, Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Hasbro has created a near-exact replica of that 1977 “Empty Box” with a certificate that offers updated versions of the first four original Star Wars action figures from 1977: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and Chewbacca. Lava Vaders– FREE?

The Target store in Lafayette, IN gave away the first 36 Lava Vaders
FREE. Yes, FREE! I was lucky enough to receive one of these figures. I was handed a special numbered ticket (I was #14) just before the store opened. There where approximitely 25 people in line @ 8AM. Each ticket handed out was good for 1 Vader only. I was floored when an employee annouced that the first 36 Vaders were free, as were the other customers. I talked with a friend of mine who lives about an hour away, and he had to pay the $12.99 at his local Target. I believe the free figures at my store may have been an isolated incident.

Scalper News… Continued

Whoa, this is a very hot topic. Several reports are coming in of stores that were very fair and smart with the Lava Vader.

Some store managers handed out numbered business cards so that no one got more than one figure, and figures were handed out at check out.

It’s a great example that some people care… Thanks to these store managers for their fairness.

Scalper News…

Thanks to everyone who sent in their reports on what they saw last weekend.

It appears that clerks on Target and Walmart didn’t care that scalpers took more that one of the exclusives their companies carried.

On both stores clerks were told buy Yak Readers when these people were buying handfuls of the Lava Vader and the Early Bird package and did nothing about it. If there was a policy, they just didn’t cared about it.

Thanks again to everyone and stay away form scalpers.

Scalpers Doing Business…

Hi, Yak Reader David sent us the following…

It was a sad day for collecting again, as the exclusives brought out the
“hoarders of old”. I went to the local Target about an hour after they
opened, fully not expecting to find any lava Vaders, and was right. All 4
pegs were sold out. But I have a hard time believing there were 40
different customers there within the hour, so people were buying
multiples…

But the most unbelieveable thing was, 550 lava Vaders were already sold on
E-bay by this evening, and there are already 1300 other lava Vaders on sale
on E-bay….and the going price is about $50.00, when they sold for $12.99.

As you can see, predictions were right…

Deluxe Obi-Wan Variation Found

Yak reader Steve P. has uncovered a packaging variation on the just released Deluxe Obi-Wan figure.

As you can see in the photo, one Super Battle Droid is packaged whole and the other is packaged in an “exploding” configuration.

According to Steve’s observation of the date stamp, the exploded version appears to be the newer of the two versions.

There Are 3 Others

The Target ROTS Cup figures are NOT THE SAME as the carded versions this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are different variant figures…

1. Obi-Wan, appears to be same as ROTS Obi-Wan carded #2, but has DIFFERENT SCULPTED HANDS (PARTICULARLY CHECK OUT HIS LEFT HAND, IT IS OPEN, WHERE AS FIG #2 HAS A CLOSED HAND WITH LIGHTSABER ATTACHED).

2. Greivous, appears to be same as Sneak Preview fig, but has DIFFERENT CAPE and COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PAINT JOB.

3. Clonetrooper, appears to be the same as ROTS carded #6, but has NO QUICK DRAW ACTION and COMES WITH A STRANGE ACCESSORY NOT WITH ANY OTHER CLONE.

Milk, Eggs – Palpatine?

If you have a Kroger supermarket chain in your area it might be worth your time to check it out. I went to my local store this afternoon and scored #33 Clone Commander, #34 Clone Pilot, #35 Palpatine and #36 General Greivous. It appears that they are popping up at several stores in the chain.

About that Palpatine. On the cardback, he is pictured with the Sidious head and holding a RED lightsaber. However, the figure inside the package has a Palpatine Head and holding a BLUE lightsaber. The hand holding the saber in each instance is two different sculpts (note: the saber is molded into the hand and not removable) one version is holding the Anakin hilt and the other is holding the SIdious hilt.

Now this figure comes with snap-on force lightning, interchangable heads and a second set of hands. NEITHER of which is holding a red Sidious saber. Hmmmmm….what’s going on here? An error? a variation? Anyone have an answer?

If you take this link to our soon to be active ToyGuide, you’ll see a more definitive list for all the merchandise available in the wee hours of this coming Saturday morning to spend your hard earned money on. 12″ figures, vehicles, deluxe figures and store exclusives are included in the provided link, plus you can print it and it’ll all fit nicely on one 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. (no, fumbling with multi-page documents here at Yakface.com)

Just a note i found the revenge of the sith movie adaption part 1 and 2 at the mall’s waldenbooks:) they would not sell me a graphic novel but they nwould sell me parts 1 and 2 figure that one out also was in one of my many k-marts here and found 2 palletts worth of rots goodies collect 2 wave 05 had all jedimasters along with red royal guard and organa,story telling yoda,superdeformed cases and what i think were mustafar playset cases,2 per case if i read it correctly.I grabbed a red royal guard took it to check outs and it scanned not for sale but back in the toy dept it rang up 6.99 on their scanner so ….traget for 1.00 off each figure is probly the place to go.

STAR WARS MIDNIGHT MADNESS AT TOYS R US

While the whole galaxy eagerly awaits the release of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, due out in cinemas on May 19th 2005, Toys R Us will be the first to launch the fantastic range of Star Wars products.

Toys R Us will open 11 of its stores at 12am on Saturday 2 April so fans can be the first to get their hands on over 100 different Star Wars products including fantastic role-playing toys, action figures, vehicles and electronic lightsabers from Hasbro plus other Star Wars merchandise including Lego, games and much more.

Stores in Brent Cross, Croydon, Medway, Southampton, Bristol, Oldbury, Warrington, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Gateshead will all be opening their doors at midnight to allow fans the first opportunity to purchase the much sort after Star Wars products.

The Brent Cross store will see a special appearance from the original Darth Vader – Dave Prowse, who will be at the store at midnight on 1 April to meet fans and sign autographs. A lifesize X-Wing will also be on display at the Brent Cross store.

To celebrate the midnight madness Toys R Us are offering the first 50 customers at each store a free lenticular Star Wars print, plus fans will also have the opportunity to get their hands on an exclusive Midnight Madness t-shirt.

“Star Wars fans are very important to us and we are delighted to be the first store to offer them the fantastic range of brand new merchandise.” Said Mike Coogan, Marketing Director, Toys R Us.

He continued “In addition to all the activity happening at the participating stores we are also offering customers a limited edition Holographic Yoda figure from Hasbro.”

Security at each store will be taken care of by a squad of Storm Troopers*.

Launching in cinemas globally from 19 May 2005, the final part of George Lucas’ epic adventure follows Anakin Skywalker’s path to the Dark Side and also answers many questions that fans have had about the series since the first instalment in 1977. Famous characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2 and Chewbacca are back and joined by new friends and enemies.

Target’s Master Coupon Plan… Sort Of

I called Target Corp HQ today and asked about that $1 off each figure coupon mailed out last week, and how they determined who got them. The operator said she had no idea what I was talking about! I proceeded to read her the April 2 Target employee handbook page which detailed how the cashier was to handle said coupon, and she escalated the call. They then told me it was sent to a limited number of customers…maybe to those with a Target charge card, or those who answered the surveys on the printed receipt. They simply didn’t know. So, if you got the coupon, you’re lucky.

My guess was that the Target coupons were mailed to Hyperspace memeber. All my friends received one and are in the fan club!

Collectors Will Buy Empty Boxes

In a very interesting note, CNN has posted an article looking at Hasbro’s Star Wars marketing, including its exclusives. One item which makes perfect sense to collectors which seems to have raised eyebrows in the financial work is Hasbro’s decision to reissue the classic Early Bird set as a Wal-Mart Exclusive– where collectors buy a basically empty box. Check it out here.

I had an interesting chat with the local TRU manager. She was telling
me of the cool big displays they are putting up for the midnight
“party”, people in costume and of drawings they will have of the variant figures and packaging they have available. This got me to thinking 1. is Yakface aware of these variants and 2. Is there a list available so that when we go to these stores, we will know what variants we are looking for in addidtion to the other figures that will be available that day. Another thing I heard is a special commemorative pack available at Walmart at midnight and when is this holo Yoda coming out and where. Thanks for your time. Starwolf

The main variants which have been announced are the purple versus blue tint to Vader’s helmet on the ROTS cards. There has been one other variant reported which involves a different placement of the “Vader” accessories in the bubble on the Deluxe Anakin which transforms into Darth Vader. My guess is that the prizes are actually something like the holo Yodas and the manager may not be familiar with the nuances of the term variant in collectorspeak.

Wal-Mart will have a special commemorative pack at midnight, which is a “reissue” of the Early Bird Pack complete with a certificate to send in for a set of 4 figures– Luke, Leia, R2 and Chewbacca. What is unclear is whether all stores will have some or whether it will be limited to stores with the parkinglot tent sale and Wal-Mart.com.

The latest reports we’ve gotten put the general release of the Holographic Yoda at weekend after next— April 10th, unless you happen to be in New York at the Times Square store.

Break The Emperor’s Code

Hasbro has incorporated a contest into each of the three major retail exclusive toys.

They call it “Can You Break The Emperor’s Code?”. Apparently on each figure package (just the three retail exclusives) there is a code to be deciphered, once you figure out what it means you enter it at the website for a chance to win an exclusive T-Shirt and also uncover the Emperor’s message, revealing his plans for galactic conquest.

If I had to take a guess, I say it’s “Remember To Drink Your Ovaltine”. But seriously, check it out, looks like fun.

Back when I saw Episode II for the first time, I thought I knew every detail that was to come. I had managed, in the course of my web surfing to uncover what I thought were all the details of the film.

To my surprise and delight, when I saw the Death Star scene in the Geonosian War Room, my jaw hit the floor. That one flew completely under my radar. Of course it’s been said that this was a last minute addition.

So this gave me a good idea for a new poll to start out the week. Do you think George still has a trick or two up his sleeve or do you think every last nook and cranny of Episode III is out on the internet for those that want to find it?

Spoilers Tell You Yoda Will

I picked up a Call Upon Yoda at a Suncoast store here in St. Louis this evening. The box says that Yoda tells stories from all six of the movies. My kids wanted to go directly to the story telling feature and when he started telling us about Episode III, I could not believe it! Yoda pretty much covers what happens in the whole movie from start to finish including the winners of battles and the details of the demise of major characters. The trivia questions pertaining to Episode III also revealed major spoilers in the upcoming movie. I highly recommend the Call Upon Yoda, it is a very cool toy. However, if you want to watch the film without knowing almost everything that is going to happen, purchase the Call Upon Yoda after you have seen the film.

The Simpsons: Bart Wars

Hello I don’t know if you would want to post this or not but so far Circuit City has the lowest price for the upcoming DVD. They have it priced at $11.99. Best Buy has it for $12.99 and Target has it for $13.99. I haven’t seen any mention of special offers with any either. Just FYI.

Also remember that Wal-mart and some other stores price match– be sure to save the Sunday Ads.

By now I’m sure most of you have heard the news that George Lucas is planning to remaster and re-release the Star Wars films in a new digital 3D format. I don’t know about you but I’m remaining cautiously optimistic.

Perhaps you’re wondering about how digital 3D is going to work. Wellworldenteractive.com caught up with James Cameron at ShoWest and got the skinny on how 3D is going come into play in your moviegoing future.

Let The Games Begin

The Jakks Pacific Star Wars 5 in Episode 3 plug and play game sets are hitting at Wal-Mart now. They seem to be shipping in an assortment with other game systems, however they are clearaly in Revenge of the Sith packaging. The better news is they are $18.77 and ring up with no problem— they don’t seem to be part of the embargo on Star Wars toys.

Coming To A Theater Near You, Star Wars In 3D

Looks like George has found a way to keep the theatrical legacy of Star Wars rolling beyond Episode III.

During his presentation at ShoWest in Las Vegas, George Lucas unveiled plans to remaster the entire Star Wars saga in 3D. His plan is to have the first film ready for release in 2007, just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of A New Hope. From there the plan is to release one film a year in 3D. A clip from A New Hope was shown to illustrate the power of 3D projection.

Fellow directors James Cameron and Peter Jackson joined Lucas to advocate the adoption of 3D projection technology. 3D footage from Lord of the Rings was shown as well.

Episode III “A Tearjerker”

CNN.com has posted a story about the Lucasfilm presentation at the ShoWest exhibition in Las Vegas.

During the presentation, several minutes of new footage from ROTS was shown as well as a discussion with George Lucas himself. During which he described Episode III as a “tearjerker” and refers to it as “Titanic in space”.

Does it seem to anyone else that with all of the upcoming Episode III product they are going out of their way not to regurgitate the same tired old content? It certianly seems that way in the case of the soundtrack.

The Official Site reports that the upcoming ROTS soundtrack CD will include a 70 minute bonus DVD containing 16 music videos, each set to key themes from all of the films. Plus, each section will include an introduction by Palpatine himself Ian McDiarmid.

A New Hope – In 3D???

Here’s something I would willingly sell a major part of my anatomy to be a part of….

George Lucas and James Cameron are set to unveil a new brand of 3D digital projector at the ShoWest exhibition in Las Vegas on Thursday, March 17 at 2 and 3 p.m. .

A Christie CP2000 DLP Cinema Projector will be used to showcase scenes in 3D from Episode IV: A New Hope as well as Cameron’s Aliens of the deep.

“I live on the west coast in the SF bay area. I am a big Star Wars fan also and thought you might be interested in what I saw on Friday. It appears that the California Lottery will be offering a Star Wars version Scratchers game. There are 12 different tickets that show different images from all 6 episodes. I guess that gambling has become an addition to the darkside. Here are some pictures I took of the Lottery display stand and of some of the ads. I do not know when these tickets are going to be available, but both stands I went to did not have them yet.”

Still A Long Way To Go, But…

A very reliable source told me that Lucasfilm Ltd. may allow pre-sale of tickets for Revenge of the Sith 15 days before opening day (well, opening night considering that almost everywhere in the World there’s going to be midnight showings on the 18th).

The big word here is “may”, but if they do, that means that around May 3rd you will be able to get your hands on that very special piece of paper that will be good for the screening of the last Star Wars Movie ever. Hmmm, that sounded too tragic, let me rephrase that: It will be good for the screening of the next Star Wars movie.

Check with your local Movie Theatres and get ready…

Kmart Tightens Its Grip On The Sith

I want to let you know that I came acroos some ROTS figures.The ones that will be out on April 2nd.This morning(Mar 3 if this message is late).I took 2 of the figures to the cashier and had her scan them.They wouldn’t scan and rang up “Iten Not For Sale”.It looks like Hasbro is cracking down on selling the items early.

Editorial – April 2nd Concerns

I’ve received a number of emails over the last week or so expressing concern over the abundance of Episode III merchandise leaks occuring nationwide.

The primary worry was that with all the leaks, there wouldn’t be enough merchandise for the big April 2nd bonanza. Folks, let me tell ya, you’ve got nothing to worry about.

When you compare what has been leaked against what is probably still sitting on stockroom floors, or in transit to retail, it’s a wide margin. Remember Episode II? Prior the the launch, toys were being found a much as 2 months in advance, but the shelves were still plentiful on the official release day.

Even if, the leaks caused a minor dent in quantiy on 4/2, was there much of anything that was too hard to find in the following days and weeks? Not really.

My advice to you is don’t worry, keep scraping together your pennies and get ready to feast on 4/2 because it’s going to be an Episode III all-you-can-eat buffet-style bonanza! I for one am looking forward to it!

Wal-Mart’s Sith Blitz Plans

One of our Bothan Spies came through in a big way with detailed information on Wal-Mart’s plans for the April 2nd Revenge of the Sith Product blitz:

According to the plans secured by our loyal bothan:

Toys are to be set up starting at 9:00 pm on Friday, April 1st and roped off until midnight. (Hopefully this will spare us the mangled cards which were dumped into shopping carts at many stores in years past)

In the top 400 stores there will be parking lot sales for the weekend of the 2nd.

Additional EXCLUSIVES will be in the toy departments on April 2nd (in the “normal” morning hours). No details on what yet.

There will be a Darth Vader Standee for photographs in the store

Greeters on April 2 and 3 will have collectible cards (a different one each day) to give out.

George Lucas on 60 Minutes

This Sunday, March 13, 60 Minutes (on CBS) will be showing a special in-depth interview with George Lucas. Correspondent Lesley Stahl returns to Skywalker Ranch to chat with Lucas about his family, his technological innovations and his plans after Episode III. During the interview, George also reveals that this film is way to strong for young children and the film will probably earn the “PG-13” rating; a first for a Star Wars film.

With that, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who’s written in with their finds over the last few days, I think it helps give your fellow fans a good idea of where the merchandise is hitting.

However, I think we’ve established pretty firmly now that the Mid-Size Vehicles and the Galactic Heroes are showing up pretty frequently at Target stores across the country.

UPDATE WARNING Ebay Identity Theft Scam In Progress!!

I know this is OT but anyone here who uses Ebay needs to know about this scam.

I just got an email from the address suspension@ebay.com with the subject heading – FPA NOTICE: eBay.com Registration Suspension – Invalid Contact Information. The body of the email went on to tell me I was being suspended from ebay for violation of their seller’s policy and contained the following info….

“If you would like your account to be considered for reinstatement, please click on the link below, and provide us additional information.”

After you click the link a page comes up which looks identical to ebay’s user login page. (I must admit, they got me here, but I changed my password IMMEDIATELY after I saw the next page which was the giveaway…)

After you login , a page comes up telling you once again that “USERNAME” has been suspended from ebay, please click below to begin the re-instatement process” which takes you to an extremely convincing looking Ebay page which goes on to ask for Name, Address, SS#, D.L. #, Mother’s Maiden Name etc. The User Agreement links at the bottom of the page even link to the actual ebay ones. By the way, ANY fake username or password you enter will give you the same access. I used the username Chewbacca and the password Wookiee and it said “Chewbacca” was suspended, nice huh?

Click here to see the page, remember, this is a well-constructed FAKE page, do NOT enter any personal info!

This is all one big, convincing scam to get your info and potentially ruin your life. Ebay (or any reputable company for that matter) will NEVER under any circumstances ask for the aforementioned information. If you get this email, delete it immediately or forward it on to the proper authorities.

**UPDATE** It looks like the above pages are now gone. Good riddance! Still, these people may have other tricks up their sleeve, be careful!

A Great Start to the Day!

While doing my usual grocery shopping at the local area Wal-Mart (after having looked for any new action figures of course) and browsing the cereal aisle, I ran across a ROTS treat. I was able to purchase a box of yummy Corn Pops with not only an appropriately decorated Mace Windu on the front, there was an offer of a light-up Lightsaber Spoon free inside! As I left the store in a state of euphoria, rushed home and opened the box (with my husband’s careful supervision) and delightfully found the miniature Obi-Wan style Lightsaber spoon! A flick of a switch and a press of a button and my spoon ignited (along with our own special sound effects) with a glowing red light. Maybe I get too excited over the little things in life like this, but suffice to say, the spoon is cool, the Pops taste good and the box has nice artwork. Enjoy the pics and Happy Hunting everyone!

Just to let you know, I also had stopped by my local Target here in Mesa, AZ this morning looking to see if they had any bargains on Star Wars items and not only found the Ep. III vehicles you’ve already reported on but also in the next aisle found the new Ep. III Galactic Heroes figure 2 packs. I also found the box of Cheez-its with Darth Vader on the box. It has an offer for a free poster with 2 UPCs and S+H.

In a blatant abuse of my newly-gained outlet to appeal to the masses here at Yakface, I just want to take a moment to plug one of the funniest shows you’re likely to see. Being the toy fans that we are, most of you should appreciate it.

ROBOT CHICKEN airs new episodes every Sunday night at 11:30 during Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim lineup. Created by Seth Green and the folks who bring you Twisted Toyfare Theater every month in ToyFare magazine, it uses stop-motion animation of popular toys and action figures to create skits that take a stab at pop-culture and even politics.

To keep this post Star Wars related, it looks as if Lord Vader himself is due to make an appearance in an upcoming episode. (at least, the action figure of him will be)

Looks like Target wants to clear space for the big April 2nd blitz. After a trip to my local branch I noticed that Basic Figures (OTC, Clone Wars and even the ROTS Sneak Preview Wave) were marked down to $4.88 ea. This may not be a chain-wide clearance but it’s definitely worth a look.

Register Tonight for Breakfast With the Hosts of Celebration III!

Members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club and their guests are invited to meet Jay Laga’aia and Warwick Davis, the celebrity hosts of Star Wars Celebration III , at breakfasts produced by Gen Con LLC, managers of Celebration III with Lucasfilm.

Friday, April 22, Jay Laga’aia will be the honored guest at breakfast. Laga’aia is the host of the Sagamore Ballroom stage, so this will be a rare opportunity to see Jay in a more private setting during Celebration III. The same goes for actor Warwick Davis, who will be the honored guest at the breakfast on Sunday morning, April 24. Davis will be busy hosting the Saga Stage in Hall G, plus spending time hosting in the 500 Ballroom, so fans should take this opportunity to meet him on Sunday morning. The actors will be greeting fans and signing autographs at the breakfasts.

Seating is very limited. Go to starwars.com/c3 for more information and a link to register tonight, starting after 6:00 PM PST.

In addition to autographs, fans at the breakfasts will find a souvenir ticket and one of the Celebration III talking Darth Vader action figures waiting for them when they arrive. The breakfasts are scheduled to end just as Celebration III is opening for Fan Club members for the day, and as every guest departs they will receive a goody bag of treasures from the Lucasfilm licensing archives.

First off is the new – The ARC-170 Fighter shown above, which is giving us a great idea of the evolution of the X-Wing fighter in the classic trilogy. Art Of Star Wars Exhibit in Japan

Hello Yak fans! My name is Scott C. and I have been invited to join Team Yakface as a regular contributor to the site. I just thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself before I get down to business.

I am a lifelong Star Wars fan, having seen A New Hope for the first time (on August 16th 1977) at the age of 6. Star Wars not only opened my eyes to the worlds of Science Fiction and Fantasy, but to the world of film in general, and I have been a hardcore film geek ever since. I’m sure my story isn’t at all unique to most of you, but it just goes to show how the saga has influenced most of us.

My major collecting focus is Hasbro’s line of figures and vehicles and I am also a hardcore Master Replicas junkie with twelve replicas in my collection and counting.

My beautiful wife Lori and I just recently brought our 1st child Connor into the world on 11/18/04, and I’m looking forward to sharing my love of toys and movies with him.

While I get settled in, I hope some of you will take the time to email me with news, scoops or ideas for things you might like to see on the site.

This is gonna be fun!

McGregor Slams ‘Star Wars II’
Star Wars star Ewan McGregor has attacked the penultimate movie in the sci-fi series, insisting Episode II: Attack Of The Clones was “unsatisfactory”. It’s not the first time the Scottish actor has criticized the George Lucas- directed franchise – he dubbed Episode I: The Phantom Menace “disappointing” following its release in 1999. But McGregor – who plays Obi Wan Kenobe – is far happier with the final movie, Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, which premieres in May. McGregor says, “The fighting in Episode II was unsatisfactory, I think. I don’t think the fight was nearly as good as it should have been and I certainly didn’t have as big a crack of the whip as in the first one. I made up for it in number three. We fight our a**ses off in that film.”

Bounty Hunting Today: Vintage Italian Vader MOC

While I am resisting the temptation of the Dark Side and remaining spoiler-free, I have still caught glimpses of some Toy Fair items with the prominent theme of the Dark Lord himself, Darth Vader. Among the first licensed items were those bearing Vader’s helmet on T-Shirts and buttons, and it seems we have truly come full circle with the immenent arrival of Episode III in a matter of months.

Today’s Bounty Hunting feature brings us back to those early days with a vintage carded Darth Vader action figure. However, this is not simply your regular run-of-the-mill Kenner version, but a difficult to find Italian version. Released by Kenner’s Italian affliate, Harbert, this is a fully licensed figure with the Italian name of Lord Darth Fener. As we know, our beloved characters often have different names than we are accustomed to and this Vader is no exception. Vintage foreign carded figures are often in poor condition, but today’s example has been taken care of well.

Was in My local WalMart Today and saw Star Wars Easter eggs They are yellow plastic eggs with the Episode 3 graphics on a shrink wrap seal around the front…… the contents inside is a sheet of 60+ stickers that include 4 large Vader/ lava red background – 4 final duel large stickers – ARC 170 stickers, Greivous , Yoda, Anakin and diffrernt slogan stickers “justice”, “jedi”, “Star Wars”. These are $1.76 each. If you are a collector that has to have one of everything this certainly won’t break the bank. Look for these in the Easter section with the little novelty toys and such.

The The Official Site has just made the announcement that Star Wars Weekends will happen this year in FULL SWING. (In the past Disney has chosen to tone down Star Wars weekends when a Celebration Event is held, however this year will be a definitely exception). An interesting article appeared on the Internet Movie Database. It seems that building on the cameos of Anthony Daniels, Lucas’s daughter, and others in Attack of the Clones, that George Lucas himself will appear in a cameo in Revenge of the Sith. Thanks to Yak Reader Pete for the heads-up.

I myself ate quite a bit of Boo-Berry and Franken-Berry back in the day, and when the mood hits me I still can eat quite a bit of that sugary goodness in a bowl for breakfast. Today’s Bounty Hunting spotlight turns to vintage cereal boxes, with one of the most popular varities in a (dare I say it?) Rare (gasp!) Prototype/Mock-up form.

Like most everyone else, I have seen the photos of the up and coming cereal boxes promoting Revenge of the Sith, which made me think of where it all started in terms of vintage Star Wars cereal tie-ins. Little did I know that I would run across a Prototype/Mock-up version of a Boo-Berry box previously owned by a former General Mills employee. The box is flat and has been hand-folded and drawn on for design approval. Though this is not a Kenner figure or playset or vehicle Prototype, it is nonetheless an interesting item from the early days of Star Wars licenses.

San Francisco Bay Area Wondercon

This weekend February 18-20 fans and collectors in the San Francisco Bay Area may choose to visit Wondercon, a comic book and pop culture festival and show put on by the same folks that bring you the San Diego Comic Con.

Amongst the Star Wars luminaries there signing autographs, will be a special preview of the 2nd season of Clone Wars animated series, a look inside the making of Episode III, as well as a special interview of Peter Mayhew, our very own Chewbacca conducted by Steven Sansweet.

Other events include portfolio reviews of aspiring artists by Lucas Licsening Art Director Troy Alders, a costume contest with a special Sith prize for top honors and screenings of the top Star Wars fan films of all time and the past winners from 2004.
