Why the Figure Subscription Model Should Be Avoided

hasbro_mattyshop

For a long time now, Star Wars collectors have rightfully complained about the distribution and availability of figures at retail — the ones they want to buy any way — and have suggested that Hasbro, through their website, offer a subscription service in the vein of what Mattel does with their Matty Collector programs. If there has ever been a clearer example of why this should be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS I haven’t seen it.

Forum moderator localgotal has done it again with yet another amazing mockup in his popular Concept Series lineup.

This week we are treated to a double feature, which entails two great deluxe ideas that we really wish Hasbro would make.  One of these is so amazing that it almost brings a tear to my eye.  Check it out, and make your voice heard if you support such ideas by sounding off in the forums!

Episode 414: At Last We Have the Mighty Chewbacca

Star-Wars-Action-News-Enhanced-Podcast-Feed2-300x225

Sideshow Collectibles has gone deep in Star Wars lore with their premium format figures.  After starting with big characters like Luke, Han, and Vader, they have gone EU with Darth Malgus and Shaak Ti from The Force Unleashed.  They’ve done Clone Wars with Captain Rex.  But they never made a Chewbacca…until now, and Star Wars Action News hosts Marjorie and Arnie have the exclusive version in their podcasting studio.  Is it worth getting?  Listen to the full review in this episode!

Also in this show Marjorie and Arnie review Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series Wave 3.  With a mix of characters from the original trilogy, the prequels, the Clone Wars cartoon, and the EU, listen to find out which figures stand out–and which won’t stand at all!
With a final look at the 2013 Sithmas Gift Exchange and a sticky, dripping tongue, it’s all in this brand new video podcast of Star Wars Action News!

Toyguide Update: Luke Skywalker Snowspeeder Pilot Deluxe Mini Bust (2013 PGM Exclusive)

PGM_luke_DLXbust_preview

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today as we take a look at the PGM Exclusive Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) Deluxe Mini Bust from Gentle Giant.

PROS:  I really enjoy the Deluxe Mini Busts for their versatility in display options so this PGM variant gets high praise due to its extra lightsaber wielding arm. The inclusion of the separate lightsaber hilt is a nice touch as well as it can be worn on the belt or held in one of the interchangeable arms. The paint deco is quite good with few blemishes or sloppy applications. The texture of the coat looks fantastic and almost appears to have a wet, snow soaked look. The helmet treatment is also very good as the deco is very crisp (although maybe a bit too clean) and the visor completes the look.

CONS: Being strictly a PGM exclusive may have ruffled a few feathers when it was announced, especially after the General Veers Deluxe Mini Bust kerfufel last year. I couldn’t help but think that this deluxe version could have also benefitted from the inclusion of the grenade used to take out the AT-AT. It would have been a great accessory to pair with the exclusive Lightsaber arm.

Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this bust is worth adding to your collection.
