Concept Series Update #21

Yakface forum moderator localgotal is back again with another round of Concept Series figures he’s created.  This latest update harkens back to the slimy entourgage of the illustrious Jabba the Hutt.

Check them out, enjoy the pics, and join in the discussion in our forums!  Hey, these would be awesome figures to populate a Sail Barge, right?

Sail Barge Stalling

Hasbro’s crowd funded Sail Barge endeavor could be in trouble as the pace of new backers has stalled significantly over the past week.

Is now the time to panic?  Or is that a bit premature since there’s still 4 weeks left?  Are you planning on fronting payment for one?  Let us know here or in our forums.

Note:  You can check out some other cool Star Wars inspired famous painting alterations here.   Then after that,  Hasbro would like for you to bow before the mighty Jabba the Hutt and fund his pleasure cruiser at HasLab.

It was fun while it lasted…

If your Walmart is still selling TBS 3.75″ figures for $4.00 and you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, you may want to make those purchases soon as some stores are already raising the price back up to the “already reduced” price of $8.84.

Have you scored some goodies for the $4.00 price?  Are you still seeing the lower price in your area?  Share your experiences after the jump!

Future TVC Repacks…?

For better or worse, Hasbro is going to be supplementing the upcoming TVC line with repacks.

But, this could be a good thing if Hasbro is selective about it and picks great figures where demand still exists.  That way carded collectors get their TVC fix, while openers get another shot at certain figures too.

Which figures are good candidates for a repack onto a TVC cardback in your eyes?  Share your thoughts after the jump!

Make the Hobby Fun Again

Over the weekend, I stopped by a St. Louis based collector shop known as SAGA TOYS (great place, I highly recommend it), and was reminded of just how terrible the state of collecting Hasbro products has generally fallen over the past several years thanks to the awesome display of older TVC figures that SAGA TOYS has on their pegs.

Times are hard for collectors, and also for the retailers due to so many sublines of inferior product these days that appeal to fewer and fewer customers.  We are truly hoping that Hasbro rights the ship with a great TVC line that goes on for years, brings back the glory of background aliens and droids, has a nice variety of army builders (with alternate heads), throws in a healthy splash of OT goodness, brings back good case assortments with nice distribution, makes smart use of articulation without over-engineering the figures, and puts an MSRP on the line that doesn’t doom it out of the gate.

But is that really going to happen with Hasbro’s next dive into TVC?  Do you all have that much faith in Hasbro to get things back on track?  Do they even know how to manage the 3.75″ line anymore with the Disney media barrage?  Share your thoughts after the jump!

How Would You Design a 3.75″ Hasbro Death Star?

Not suggesting that it’s going to actually happen… (or am I?), but if Hasbro were to finally get the ball rolling with a serious Death Star playset in the 3.75″ scale, how would you design it?  And if it were legitimately awesome, how much would you be willing to shell out for something truly epic that would be the centerpiece of any 3.75″ Star Wars collection?

For reference, there have been some really awesome custom playsets made by some very talented fans, the very cool Micro Collection Death Star World back in the vintage days (could be a great design to upscale in 3.75″) and of course you can pretty much build your own nowadays with the wonderful products at GTP-Toys.

But, back to the original question – what kind of format would you like to see?  What’s your budget (if done with care and detail – not talking about cardboard playsets)?  Or has Hasbro wasted the opportunity after sitting on their hands for over two decades now on this front?  Should Disney just do it themselves, and make expansion sets available to enable fans to recreate scenes from ANH, ROTJ, Rogue One, etc?

Personal Note:  Kudos to the guys at Jeditemplearchives for their article on this subject today.  This is a subject that is very dear to me in the hobby, and something that hopefully Hasbro delivers on sooner rather than later – and if not, I’d be 100% in favor of Disney just doing it themselves.  None of us are getting younger.  This dream needs to come true.  If Hasbro can’t figure it out, Disney is more than capable of doing this, and probably at a much better price than Hasbro would be able to.

Clearance of Destiny

In what should not be a surprise to many, Walmart stores are starting to clearance the Forces of Destiny line as part of their “post-Christmas” clearance binge.  Check your local store if you were looking to acquire these.

Personal Note:  I thought this line was doomed as soon as it was announced.  And I rarely see anyone pay attention to them in the stores (I do casually observe other customers).  This felt like a “forced niche” item that Disney pushed, and I would feel this line has fallen short of retailer expectations to this point.   For those that do like it, or have children that enjoy these, I hope the line continues for years to come.  But I personally can’t see it having legs for an extended time; unless it’s marketed better and perhaps the product moved to the store section the audience these are targeted at frequent most.
