ROTJ Sandstorm Deleted Scene Diorama
While shooting the latest batch of images for the toyguide, I decided to recreate the infamous “sandstorm” scene using the new Blu-ray deleted scene figures (Lando and Leia) as well as the previous Tatooine Sandstorm figures (Han, Luke and Chewbacca) from the Legacy Collection. It also gave me an excuse to finally open up my BMF! The scene above was recreated using a simple tan bath towel for the desert floor and some minimal Photoshop work. Click the preview above for a closer look and be sure to check out master diorama builder Stephen Hayford’s impressive recreation over at the Official Star Wars Blog.
Toyguide Update: VC91 Rebel Pilot (Mon Calamari)
The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the our next Blu-ray deleted scene figure addition with the Rebel Pilot (Mon Calamari) from The Vintage Collection.
PROS: Instead of phoning in a quick head and arm swap on an existing A-wing pilot body, Hasbro goes that little extra and tools a substantially new figure for this release, only recycling the legs from the TLC B-wing pilot (Ten Numb) figure. The new tooling really works here as the flight suit looks very good and the new Mon Calamari head and forearms are equally as impressive. He’s got all the necessary articulation, even ankles, so he can fix in virtually any cockpit you put him in.
CONS: None really, but watch out for wonky eye paint apps.
Head to the toyguide for the full image gallery and to judge for yourself whether this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: VC90 Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew)
The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the our first Blu-ray deleted scene figure addition with Colonel Cracken (Millennium Falcon Crew) from The Vintage Collection.
PROS: A great sculpt and upgrade to the previously unnamed figure from the Saga Collection. The figure has all the articulation we’ve come to expect in the Vintage line.
CONS: Despite being are really nice sculpt, Hasbro misses the mark in terms of utilizing an incorrect sculpt for the torso. The shirt for Cracken is all wrong (note the collars/lapels – he shouldn’t have them) when compared to both the outfit in the film and the custom artwork created to the figure’s portrait on the card. The joints for the shoulders are mis-matched in terms of color and stand out quite a bit against the “sleeves” of his vest. No helmet or comlink accessory are a letdown as is the superfluous big honkin’ gun that doesn’t seem to fit quite right in the Vintage line.

Episode 336: In Memory of Ralph McQuarrie
This past weekend a light went out in the universe as Ralph McQuarrie passed away at the age of 82. The concept artist of the original trilogy, the artist took Lucas’ words and created visions of a galaxy far, far away that would inspire generations of artists to come. It is to the memory of this great visionary that Marjorie, Arnie, and the crew of Star Wars Action News dedicate our latest podcast. He will be missed.
Also on this week’s show, Marjorie and Arnie review the latest wave of Vintage figures–the deleted scene wave featuring Luke, Leia, Lando, Cracken, and a Mon Calamari A-Wing pilot. With a discussion on the ethics of figure hiding, new store discounts, and more, it’s all in this week’s Star Wars Action News Podcast!
